Our faith. This 'traditional' church service is representative of what made the African American community. Not racism, not pride, but the faith in the Love of the Shepherd, Yeshua Ha Meshiach [Jesus Christ]. Oh thank you for this.
I remember when Minister LaValley taught this song to us. I could not get it out of my head, I would sing it all day long and even now I'll listen to it here or on occassion thh Wilmington-Chester Mass Choir's CD. But of course I like our rendition better.
The great Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, Chicago, Illinois! What a high worship ministry the Holy Spirit, Rev. Clay Evans and Minister of Music Loudella Evans-Reid created. For the life of me I don't understand why God allowed Fellowship to change so radically, but, the Heavenly Father knows best and knows what He is doing. I pray God's blessings on Rev. Jenkins and the new Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church.
WOW! "Holy Holy Holy" ... BrothaRollins, what an AWESOME song, not to mention an immaculate SOUND from back in the day. The words and MELODY of this song were absolutely beautiful. The music in the church today is a lot different from how it used to be when I grew up. Traditional gospel music is my first love and I will always cherish it. Thanks for sharing your clips, I truly appreciate it.
Old church choir style can never be replaced. I hope we soon begin to realize that. Worship in this way always produced a certain kind of results and it still does.
BrothaRollins, you have no idea how much you are blessing me with the "What A Fellowship Hour" clips. I too remember this one by Ernie's Wilmington Chester Mass Choir. They also are one of my all time choirs. If you have anything by Ernie and WC Mass , please post them. P.S.and more from Mother Consula youk too. I loved to hear her anointed voice! Thanks for the memories!
I have heard Pastor Jenkins at my church, New Birth, in atlanta and yall truley have a special gift in him. Don' t tuch God's annointed with slander and speak negativley of him. Remember, even though David knew he was God's annointed ruler of Israel, even when he had the chance to kill King Saul, he did not touch him because He was in a position that GOD put him in. Be careful saints.
You know a lot of people dont like change but change is neccesary to stay alive and to reach those who would have never come in when Rev. Evans was still pastor there. Let us rember the great commission. We cant please those who are already saved and negelct those who aren't saved. The Hip hop generation needs Jesus too.
I am a Minister of Music, and i'm sorry, I love traditional gospel music. These are the songs that have carried us for years, I can't see totally throwing them away. Contemporary music has its place, but some of it has no "meat" just gravy...I need to full course...!
@busdriver46 I agree with you 100%. I am 44 grew up on traditional gospel music as well as contemporary, and it's just something about the traditional music that stays in my heart.
Hey Bro. Min. Pierre! U betta lif' HIM on dat O'gan! This is Min. Donna from Vernon Park Church of God in Chi-town! How U doin'? Call me at the church, I need to connect w/ya!
This is a wonderful song written by Min.Jeffery LaValley. He taught it to Fellowship for their Spring Festival. He ALSO taught it to Wilmington-Chester Mass. It's a powerful song of affirmation of the reign of the Lord. That's steve Jones directing the choir, and yours truly on the organ(smile).
I haven't begged Mr. Taylor for more copies of classic Fellowship broadcast, did u see the clip of Sis. Shirley Bell singing "Lord You SHo' Been Good to Me". check it out
from what i heard, jenkins ran all the old original members from fellowship and turned it into a hip hop thug generation type church. They say he has gained over 5500 members but he has lost many too! he turned into a hip hop head quarters! I hate contemporary gospel and im 26!
I like to speak positive about most things but I have to bring the choir up. Have you heard the choir lately? The choir sounds like a bunch of kids and the powerful voices are mostly non-existant. Rev. Evans will say over and over, "Rev Jenkins is doing a marvelous job". Rev. Clay Evans isn't worried about anything Rev. Jenkins does.
yeah i know. rev evans dealt with niggas in the church all his life lol. im sure he tired. But the ship is so classic. How do you dismantle the one of the greatest black churches ever?
That is so not Tru! Jenkins is just into a new style of Worship to God and alot of the older members are still there ! and Yal shoulndt talk about the man of God he is doing great things at the Ship ! for a new Generation ! more young folks are in the church then ever before !
When I listen to the current choir singing, I find myself saying that everything they sing sounds alike...contemporary. Thank GOD for these clips of the good ol' 'Ship from back in the day!
