  • Wonderful. I hope I will play Horizons in 6 months with 50% of your talent!

  • A joy to listen to and watch! I am learning how to play Horizons myself right now and will study your video to learn all I can about hand placement.

The Lovers is a gorgeous piece!

  • BRAVO PROVA ANCHE" RACING IN A"

  • BRAVO

  • bravo, thank you, when i heard you playing hairless, i got a shaking feel ,the one i felt the first time i heard it 32 years ago; it sounds as if out of time ,coming from another life. the lovers!! what a beautiful piece , the nicest in voyage;thank you for what you do , your talent , artistic abilities, and your generous postings.

  • its really noticable how much better of a player you've become in the last few years. Just went back and watched this vid which has been in my favorites for a while and its quite clear your playing and recording have really imrproved, by the way, that is not to say you weren't an excellent player before... you just get better with age!

  • @westrokker

thanks. well i hope so anyway! :D i've learned a few things as a result of posting. feel stuck at one level though lately

  • Well done! You don't just play these, you add something extra to them!

  • Beautiful playing, very well phrased. Thanks for the post, since I can learn the latter two from your video if they are not otherwise tabbed.

  • Beautiful evocative playing of some very lovely tunes.

    Amy

  • Beautiful

  • Not sure what's gonna happen if someone is not going to tab this hairless heart arrangement! The troubleclefmeister has produced a masterpiece for classical guitar. Let others learn it ......

  • That was great! Your little hesitation was not noticed as an error.

Looks to me a pause for emphasis, which added to the performance.

  • great job!

  • where are U from man :-) Join Genesis, U play much better than Michael

    keep trying and good luck.

  • Excellent performance.

  • Beautiful. Simply beautiful.

    Blessings.

    Eddie.

  • I recieved your reply via email. Thanks very much. It helped a lot. I'm still trying to put this together so it sounds coherent, but my fingers don't bend the way i want them too. Haha.

    Good times though.

  • I've managed to figure out the first 15 secs. of Hairless Heart. Yay for meee! It just takes me 25 seconds to play it. Could you give me a hint at the chord you are playing @ 3:36 in the video? I can't figure it out.

    (Dave in Canada)...(begging)

  • Superb. Horizons is one of those pieces that really seems to test guitar players. Many postings of it and some by pretty good players but only a few manage to pull off a version that flows, makes sense and is musical - even Steve has had his share of dodgy moments over the years. Thanks for this and all your other postings

  • Just beautiful. Really takes me back . Why does everyone want the tab for this? The video is right there. Watch and learn! I am.

    Incredible playing Ser.

  • you're beautiful

  • I don't know who U are.. I don't know U.. I didn't listen to your music before. But I know U are GREAT... I don't know what to say..

    Keep going

    I'll find U in U Tube

  • Extremely well played mate!

  • Note perfect. Wonderful. A pleasure to listen to. Thank you.

  • beautiful x

  • how long would it take to tab the lovers really, for all us crap guys that cant work stuff out,pls

  • Dude....I'm blown away. You have wonderful fluid movement between the phrases just like Hacket. I'm a huge Genesis fan for over 30 years and I want a cd of all your covers!

  • Just discovered this for the first time. Nicely played Tony - as always. I'm sure Steve himself would enjoy your interpretations.

  • @gazzo45 ja, ja

  • Well, I don't know about the technical mastery of the exact notes being played blady blah... But, I'm a Genesis fan and thought this was f*cking excellent !! Many thanks troubleclef for sharing with us. 5***** from me!

  • Sorry, but horizons is not that quite accurate, compared to other performances you've made, specially at :20, :31, :39-:41, and :50, I know this masterpiece is quite an ordeal, but perhaps more practice in order to achieve more closeness to the original one, which we all believe is the point in posting these videos, to show the world you've accomplished something, Hairless heart needs to be emphasized a little bit more ... My humble opinion ...

  • In the case of Troubleclef, with all his talent and feeling, he's more than earned the right to interpret the piece in his own way, rather than just copying Steve Hackett note for note. We don't "all" believe that song cloning is the point of these videos...

  • Thank you for you comments Worldo, but, with all due respect, and in order for me to know, how is that right earned to interpret pieces like this the way you want it, if that's the case, so just call it Three by Me, and not by a specific Author or Composer, and so, what would the point be in posting these videos, I have no doubts about Troubleclef's talents, skills and feelings, because it shows, so, good thing we have these comments boxes, and make our reflections of what we see and expect...

  • Take it outside fanboy!

  • any tabs for these tracks, they are beautiful and i want to play them to everyone.

    great playing...thx for the vid

  • Bravo Maestro, you are top dawer mate, love Hackett, love your post too, thanks for sharing :-)

  • Great version of these tracks. You're a true master of your instrument.

It also shows the power of these tracks that they have stood the test of time.

  • this is my favourite video...troubleclef you're great.

can anyone send me the horizon's tab played in this video?? I'd like learn it because it sounds much better than the others version I found...

  • YOU are AMAZING!!!!!

  • very well done man!

used this vid to learn the lovers. Wonderful tracks man, thanks :)

  • Your Genesis interpretations pull me back to Youtube like flypaper. (Or an old vinyl record). It's the way you play them.

  • Are you sure it's "The Lovers?" I thought the name of the song was "The Luvers". (if we're talking bout Voyage of the Acolyte)

  • Whaa? there's no such word as 'luvers'. maybe your copy has a typo?

  • No, it doesn't. I simpy need to go to an oculist :)

    Keep...on rocking?

  • you are Very good !

  • Voyage of the Alcolyte !!!!!!

I see faces and traces of home...

Back in New York City !!!!!

  • wooo hooooo thats what i`m talkin` bout

  • very very well done my friend, Steve would be proud!

  • omg your really good + i'm 14 and i can play this but not aswell as you i won my talent show playing it YOU ROCK!!!

  • brill, well done, thanks. gaz

  • Beautifully done. Timing, dynamics, and soul are perfect!

  • Huge genesis and Hackett fan. Thank you. So well done.

  • a sentirti ho la pelle d'oca, bravissimo

  • well played. you're excellent.

  • 1st piece is Horizons, 3rd piece was Hairless Heart, but what was the middle one? - help someone!

    Beautiful playing btw.

  • 2nd one is, I believe, from the solo work "Voyage of the Acolyte." The title I don't quite remember.

  • "The Lovers". See video details.

  • maestro! Well done, from a Genesis and Steve Hackett fan.

  • Eccellent, very very good. God bless you! Viva Genesis and Steve Hackett for this wonderful music...

... form Castellammare di Stabia (Naples) Italy.

  • Thanks. Nice to know these tunes are being cared for.

  • me caes bien porke te vale pito, nomas te gusta tocar, asi debe ser, paz, musica y ya

  • Beautiful sound.

  • How's your album coming along? ;-)

  • Beautiful, I really enjoyed your version of Hairless Heart. As an amatuur guitarist myself, I appreciate how difficult to play all of these songs are, but trouble clef, YOU NAILED IT, fabulous!!

  • you rock!

  • wow. youre playing is so tight and soothing. Great job!

  • You, my man, could have replaced Steve and, at least in my opinion, and assuming that you have the same mystical musical interpretation as Steve, have allowed Genesis to have continued making the same sort of music that they made up until Then There Were Three. Another of your posts goes onto my favorite list. Thanks

  • i´m sorry but this is definetely wrong.

    not the notes, the frets!

open high e and open d are to be played and the beginning starts with b: 7th fret (and open d) and the second note is g: 5th fret and then open e... try

  • Whats wrong?

    Whats right?

    How can you tell?

Is it for Steve Hackett to tell how this is supposed to be played?

    Your telling?

    Troubleclef's telling?

    This is but one version.

  • great art, even if I don´t comment every song I´m one of Your lifelong fans...

    sincerely Yours

    Torsten alias bambadinka alias T.Raven

  • thanks. i appreciate the comment.

  • Have you tried "Andante in C" by Mauro Giuliani?

  • don't think i know that one.

  • I'm sure you'd like it, it was used as the theme for the childrens TV prog Along the Riverbank, the Hammy Hamster thing.

  • wonderful more please

  • Interpret my comment as intense cyberclapping

    Keep playing, we listen

  • You are one of my YouTube idols! Every single one of your videos is amazing. I'm particularly fond of this one, Life on Mars and Love Of My Life. Beautifully constructed and played. I've just started uploading my own videos now, I have three of them so far (Blood on the Rooftops, Horizons and Blackbird) and I will add more. I wouldn't compare myself with you, but anyway! Thanks for your lovely videos!

  • thanks for watching and for your comments. cheers.

  • Beautiful. What is the guitar, and what strings do you use?

  • OH, now I see it - Taylor NS54-CE, hybrid classical. I'll check that out. Still, what strings do you prefer?

  • just regular tension nylon strings. Any will do. I use Daddario pro arte's

  • masterful and moving. thanks for sharing your talent.

  • Troubleclef, your playing is "supernatural".

I enjoy a wide range of guitar styles both acoustic and electric (Al di Meola, Steve Hackett, Jan Ackerman, John McLaughlin, Carlos Santana, etc.), but at the end of the day I favor melody vs. virtuosity and Steve Hackett is second to none when it comes to soul soothing tunes and your interpretation and arrangements are truly amazing.

    Thank you for sharing.

  • thanks, buddy

  • Troubleclef,

I browsed your gallery of youtube postings. Wow, such a soulful collection... Do you ever play in public?

You mentioned one of your pieces was from a book by Chris Parkening. I saw this guy in concert few years ago and was disappointed. Very uninspired selection he had that evening. Only one piece was truly worth the time and it wasn't even a true classic piece, it was more of a variation on a popular Greek theme.

  • thanks. i don't play out particularly often.

I've seen CP in concert too. Many years ago. Don't recall the program. I think he was the soloist in a well-known guitar concerto. probably "concierto de aranjuez" or something. Maybe he did a solo encore. memory fails.

  • Good stuff. Really glad to see that song off of 'Voyage...'. Do you grow out your nails? I can't tell by watching this.

  • thanks. yes, i do use the nails.

  • Thank you so much. Moonlit music. Very good. Too bad music jumped the tracks in the '80s.

  • Bravo indeed sir, wonderfully accomplished and elegant playing

  • you are a very good player..Thanks for playing me "horizon"...it is a gorgeus song...Well Done...

  • Nice songs !!!

Why don't you play ANTHONY PHILLIPS's songs ?

    Really cool !!!

  • thanks. I do play Ant. check my versions of "Oubliette" and "days of grace". hope to do more soon.

  • sei un grande. grazie per riuscire a farmi rivivere la musica della mia adolescenza come una volta, quella dei primi genesis. thanks more.

  • awesome as usual. I've learned more from your videos in the last 3 months than 20 years of playing by ear! Thanks, you've really inspired me. Any desire to do "variations on a theme by Chopin" by Steve H.?

  • thanks. I've never heard it. what album is it on?

  • It is on "momentum" released in 1994. It is a "classical" instrumental cd all tracks written by s.h. except "Bouree". If you can't find it I can get it to you.

  • With this nice upclose video I finally get some clues about where to play some parts on the fretboard : thanks a lot :)

  • you're welcome. thank *you*

  • Nice relaxing music! 5*

  • Great Job!!

  • Horizons is one of my all time favorites. You do a fine job with this beauty.

    My best, Don

  • I like all your videos! Maybe you could publish same lessons teaching some famous cover! Compliments

  • Oh ya, can you play also Fussion Jazz Music as well, such as Acoustic Alchemy's "Natural Elements" or any Lee Ritenour, GRP, Fourplay or Earl Klugh songs, such as Bob James & Ritenour's song "Restoration". You can see it on: Youtube plus

    watch?v=uj5CBYp1Mtk&mode=related&search=

  • Very beautiful play clef. This song makes me remember my teenager-times. Could you play Genesis' Song "Harlequin", from the album "Nursery Crymes". You can hear it on:

    Youtube watch?v=PZ4FEvBzjKE

  • I love the music from genesis and ich think Sturmer is a real good musician, but he never will reach hackett, but you're really great !!! Greatings from Berlin !!

  • thanks

  • I'm with you mate, Daryl Sturmer is technically a phenominal musician. But sometimes he tries to cram too many notes in(example: the current live version of "Firth of Fifth") Hackett's work is just beautiful.

  • Shit man.... you made me cry... serously...

  • Hoooo,,,, a personnal touch !

    Nice work !

  • Very touching. A really nice gift for us folks. Thanks, man!

  • That was very good ! Thank You

  • Simply incredible!

  • thanks..beautiful

  • lovely!

  • The Horizons was absolutely outstanding! I have been trying to find a good version of the song on youtube, and this is by far the best. Salute the Maple Leaf!

  • you're the best guitar player i saw on youtube. how can you learn such difficult pieces only by ear..

    really pure talent.

    greetings from italy

  • Ecxcellent, I try these but butcher them, Can you post "variations on a theme by Chopin"? I trying to learn it.

  • as always, great stuff. pure class. i have never heard these pieces...didn't realize sh was such a great composer. where is this music available?

  • I think he sells scores thru his website. I learned these by ear (that's why they're not note-perfect, by far) thanks!

  • Clef, I'm just beginning Fingerstyle ... how hard is it for you to perform, say this piece (Hackett) on a steel string vs your classical Taylor. ... I'm having a hard time getting consistent clear tones on stretches .. I'm on a Taylor Drednaught (heavy strings)... The reason I ask is I'm considering a nylon stringed instrument

  • i swear i saw you supportin chris rea on parkinson, please tell me i did

  • Like most of the Hackett's music, I find it hard to put into words. But I would think that your heart soars beyond mundane daily life when playing these tunes. They did such for me. Thanks.

  • how can i possibly dream about sending "my" horizons as answer to you?!!!

    rsrs

well, what counts is the intension to please, isn't it?

  • B-E-A-UTIFUL

  • I've only seen one person do this better (or the same) and that was Steve himself. You're a true talent. Keep the old Genesis tunes coming!!!!

  • what more can I add that hasn't been said already... You nail it in all your videos. let's find you a record deal if you don't have one already

  • you can really play a fantastic guitar, wow, any moody blues?eric

  • thanks. i like the MB's. maybe i'll do some at some point. for some reason i had "How is it we are here" stuck in my head the other day. Not my favorite song of theirs by any means, i just kept hearing Mike Pindar crooning away "Man's mighty mine machines, digging under ground". lol

  • Can anyone TAB troubleclef's arrangement of hairless heart and post it on the web? I MUST learn to play it!

  • Fantastic!

  • I would give anything for the tab of your Hairless Heart arrangement. Your choice of compositions, your arrangements and your performances are absolute class! Thx.

  • i would like to hear troubleclefs arrangements on a cd.

  • very nice harmonies in there

  • Well done, beautiful.

  • Love this too! Genesis sound great on a classical guitar. Love Hairless Heart!

  • would like to know ,are you a pro.

  • i did not manage to post the link, but just look at Youtube under: Bach casals cello suite...there you go!

  • I've watched it over and over again. Great version of music written by some of the great composers of our time.

  • I'm a rock/metal fan But the last time i was as inthrauled as this at a guitar performance is when i saw a video of sagovie 20 years ago. Can't stop waching, brilliant.

  • Very nice indeed. Thank you. Encore!

  • Georgeous medley, beautiful and nuanced

  • seems wierd to here such beautifully played music without a massive applause at the end...needless to say; lots of us are clapping at home!

  • Beautiful!

  • hackett eat ur heart out

  • this is bachs first cello suite or am i wrong?

  • Post a link to Bach's suite if possible. I would like to compare. Thanks.

  • this music will live as long as the best masterpieces of this civilization, thanx clef!

  • ... WICKED

  • You know how to keep the tempo very well

  • I would give up any ability to shred or sweep to be able to play like this. Simply beautiful. TEACH ME.

  • Make a CD of Genesis songs and I buy it!

  • Hairless Heart is very nicely arranged. That Taylor obviously sounds awesome - pity you can't get a mic a bit closer in.

  • Ah great! Genesis!

    Amazing playing .

    Your guitar sounds great ,

But on Horizons it's missing the power of the acoustic guitar , at least for me.

  • brilliant work!

    i love the guitar sound!

    good job!

    thanks for share it!

  • You are not only a true fan, but a very good player of that instrument. Keep up the great work! :)

  • The Lovers is a very good idea!! Original version of Hairless heart! Troubleclef, you are on the top again!.... by an old Genesis fan!!!

  • Beautifull!! Hairless heart my Fav! Keep the good work!

  • Very nice!

  • Beautiful !

    Cheers,

    Alex
