Africa's condition is due to the fact that Africa missed out on the agricultural revolotion. The first cartoon, it didn't say the monkey was Obama! The monkey was the monkey that was shot, and they were implying the stimulus package was lame as if a monkey had banged it out on a typewriter. I think the apology was not to say that they are sorry for racist undertones in the cartoon they made but just as a heads up to people who may still feel sensitive to cartoons that have similar imagery with the controversial cartoon about the stimulus bill (ie. apes etc.). For example, after 9/11 many tv movies and episodes were rescheduled (science fiction shows, cartoon shows, etc.) not because their subject matter may make people think about 9/11 even when they didn't contain terrorism.
The apology was offensive. Whatsmore, the apology, I wager, was intentionally offensive. I would boycott the paper, just based on their stupidity if not their latent racism.

This cartoon clearly has no relation to anyone nor does it attempt to portray anyone where as the initial cartoon indicated that an ape had significant involvement in the stimulus package. Being Americans, most people failed to use their brains and thus assumed that ONLY Obama designed the stimulus package and in that case the chimp would be symbolic of him.

Africa's condition is due to the fact that Africa missed out on the agricultural revolotion. The people were stuck in a never ending loop of hunting and gathering due to the inability to domesticate the animals and fram the terrian because Africa is such a harsh place. Races are no longer limited to to the place they evovled, look at America, that climate doesn't naturaly produce black people or even white people it produced Native Americans but here we all are, so there must be a race most suitable for all climates and it must be mixed. Mixed kids are less likely to be fucking retarded and other birth defects because of the completely different heritage of our parents, mixing races makes humans less likely to be flawed.

Another point to add is Africa, can it really withstand humans there. I mean humans need to eat, not get disease, and get water and have a fairly good shelter, yeah mud huts work but it cant be too great to live in a mud hut.
Just make them as comfortable as possible.
Go on think about that and fire something back opposing it, you know you want to. And when you do I am probably going to admit I was wrong but whatever.

I agree with this. Of course that was their intention. But it also means, that they must believe that their readers are just stupid. And yes, many people are stupid, in fact most people seem to be stupid, so this apology isn't that strange. It's like those warning signs (May be hot when sun shines) on the railings at Hover Dam.
But to me personally the apology is worse than the cartoon, because it shows how they have to expect people to call everybody racist lightheartedly. Exactly TYT's point.

I think the apology is worse than the cartoon. It is like saying people cannot think of a monkey without associating that with a person of color. But yes, we do not want to make them apologize for the apology. It would be kind of hilarious though. oh true true, I am aware of the stereotype, and I'm not saying the Post shouldn't have known better...but a lot of the reaction has posed the statement that some things are just concretely, objectively racist. That it must be Obama, because we think it is, so it is.
One person seemingly no one has asked...is the person who drew the cartoon. He would probably say "no I didn't mean Obama, that's silly."

That's perfectly possible, and is actually probably right. But the implication is still there, the mental connection w/Obama. It may well not have been intended to be racist at all. Cenk nailed it when he said the correct question was, "Can you not see how this might be seen as racist?" I can see it clear as day, but my guess is that the NYPost didn't consciously intend it to be.

I do not dispute that the blacks=apes stereotype was created by racist whites, and I said that at least twice. I did not say black men came up with it. I said that black men have memorized it, internalized it, and when they saw a cartoon of a chimp, it was prominent black men who instantly said "that chimp was Obama."

The first cartoon, it didn't say the monkey was Obama! The monkey was the monkey that was shot, and they were implying the stimulus package was lame as if a monkey had banged it out on a typewriter. I think the apology was not to say that they are sorry for racist undertones in the cartoon they made but just as a heads up to people who may still feel sensitive to cartoons that have similar imagery with the controversial cartoon about the stimulus bill (ie. apes etc.). For example, after 9/11 many tv movies and episodes were rescheduled (science fiction shows, cartoon shows, etc.) not because their subject matter may make people think about 9/11 even when they didn't contain terrorism.

there was a cartoon in the globe and mail that showed a bearded obviously muslim man giving his son a vest laden with sticks of dynamite as a (Ramadan, christmas or birthday ) gift, can't remember, but it was some occasion. THAT was offensive. the cartoon was so graphic. No apology though.

This cartoon clearly has no relation to anyone nor does it attempt to portray anyone where as the initial cartoon indicated that an ape had significant involvement in the stimulus package. Being Americans, most people failed to use their brains and thus assumed that ONLY Obama designed the stimulus package and in that case the chimp would be symbolic of him.
There is a huge difference. This cartoon has no relation/political reference to the president.

That is likely the reason why I explained the difference between these two cartoons and why the initial could be construed as offensive if you understand the underlying factors and history of blacks being portrayed as chimps.
