This is an interesting watch, but it would have been more informative had you left out the music and had vocal instructions about some of the more important parts, like what you mixed up to make the pieces with, how long it had to sit to hardend, what you glued the tiles to, etc.
@DarkDekieon Well, this was the very first video I did many moons ago (on a whim actually). Hopefully, the others are showing a rise in quality as I learn new editing tricks. And we're doing a new casting series on our weekly blog that shows every step in great detail with many supporting links. Thank you for watching. Happy gaming.
What is a white base with all sides of three inches that appear at about three minutes of this animation? Is it a rubber mat or something? What commodity is it?Please teach details.
@ookage1972 Hello - that's Elmer's White Foam Board (20" x 30" x 3/18"). I use it to base the Hirst Arts pieces. It warps the least (in my opinion), is reasonably priced and is easy to cut. You can get it online, at Wal-mart, or Staples.
@NerdFury Sorry - that was the floor color I gave you. For the stone, I primed it black, then dry brush with GW Codex Gray, next a lighter dry brush of GW Fortress Gray, and then a really light dry brush or P3 Menoth White.
@Herfer House paint totally works (that's what I did my very first cavern set with). I enjoy using the GW paints though - mostly because they work so well with dry brushing effects. If you can get the paint combos right - any paint is good paint:)
@Nosferatu1208 Thanks, bro:) I'm not able to leap tall buildings in a single bound but I'm practicing:) I think we may have to make another one of these kinda videos soon. Maybe we'll do narrowed hallways next.
@edvill82 Our video was meant to just be a nice terrain appetizer of sorts. Detailed instructions with more video and pics can be found on the Hirst Arts website under the Building Instructions page. Give that a try. And the forum gang (of which I participate) will always answer your questions quickly.
I have to say that's awesome. My group has been all about me buying dwarven forge tiles, which I'm entirely too cheap to, but now I have to come back and tell them I'll make my own. :D
Thanks for the step-by-step. A word of advice: transpose captions over the vid so that we know what each ingredient and tool you're using is. PS where did you get the tile forms?
Thanks - the molds themselves really provide excellent detail. The key to making that detail pop is a good dry brushing paint plan. You can purchase the molds at Hirts Arts.
my only tip would be to position the camera to your left side, as you seem to be right-handed, and your right hand often blocks what the view of what you're doing.
That is an excellent point. Thank you as it's something you don't realize unless someone else points it out (especially since I'm a righty). Thanks again.
Thanks for the kind words. I use it as a stress relief. For some reason everything seems safe, calm and right in the world when I'm doing some Dungeons and Dragons terrain:)

great color choice for the stone! what colors did you use?
NerdFury 1 year ago
@NerdFury I love the GamesWorkshop paints. So, for the floors, I just primed it black and then did a nice drybrush of Graceyard Earth.

why don't you talk in the video?

very cool. I am going to order some basic floor molds.

I would use house paint...more bang for the buck over GW paints.

@edvill82 We don't sell a ton of terrain at the moment. Best to check out sites like War Torn Worlds and Miniature Building Authority.

@Sintwar Heh - no good? It's just a track from iMovie. That's what we use to put together all our vids.

@tjthibeau Indeed. We plan on doing captions. We're just getting ready for a big Phoenix Comicon show but they are forthcoming.

Try googling for Hirst arts, and not hirts arts. Only available through the website, afaik.
