i just need a step by step tutorial on how to meter light for a scene,i get the different modes and what they do but how do i use them, for example i want to find the correct exposure for a landscape shot,so i put into evaluative mode and then what?
@steveohim Hey there, it really depends on you, the photographer, on how you want the photograph to turn out. The light metering system is a guide. You might want the scene darker or brighter, with different depth of fields focusing on different parts of the photograph. Best is to experiment and see which setting you prefer and suits your style the most. Let us know how you go. The Canon team.
@blueswithesoul We have more tutorials here: canon.com.au/worldofeos/learn/getting-started/ A search on the Internet ought to give you some more tips about metering systems. Thanks, the Canon team.
It took me a while to learn this stuff! I wish someone explained it like this from the beginning! One of the best tutorials I have ever seen and I will certainly recommend it to my friends! Well done!
Oh, and a question: is there a numerical rule of thumb here? i.e. a way to calculate the best f stop for a particular exposure in manual mode? That would be really helpful!
I attended a course and it was sooo confusing the Trainer was very lacking in technique and explanation. Thank you I have learnt so much and will continue to watch your uploads Canon and save my money on bad courses Many Thanks Ms T
Thank you so much I have been struggling to get my head around this in my photography lessons and you have made it so clear for me well explained and easy to remember extremely helpful
This tutorial is a must see for any beginner or someone who knows the definitions of ISO, shutter speed.. but doesn't know what they really do!
Thanx again :)

Is there a tutorial about metering systems? Which one to choose between evaluative, partial, spot and center weighted mode?
