  • Where can I purchase this DVD from? Many thanks.

  • I bought this documentary thinking it looked really good. I was really disappointed, its a very one sided story. The people that they follow all had unrealistic expectations of what to expect from Shaolin, they were chasing after a fantasy legend, which they were never going to find there. I trained in shaolin and had the best time of my life, this documentary was very depressing and didnt capture any of the magic that I had there.

  • My advice would be..

Go to shaolin if you practice gong fu and want to concentrate on your training full time without the distactions of the real world... you will have an amazing time!

Dont go to shaolin if you have never practiced gong fu, or are a beginner who wants to learn from the masters and be taught spiritual enlightenment and the deep shaolin knowledge... you will be disappointed.. find a good school near you and learn from them instead

  • I just watched this documentary on tv and the foreigners said they watching an old training guide documentary. Does anybody know the title of that old documentary? It's from this short fragment 0:22.

  • this documentary looks really good!

i was wondering if anyone knew the answer to this... as i am a teen from Australia and do not have any asian relatives, would they let me in to train in the shaolin temple? Cause i love gongfu and i'm training at the moment in sydney, but it isn't the same as it would be training in china, let alone the shaolin temple.

  • my friends shaolin is real and still exists, you just have to have believe and have a strong spirit, and find the right people to teach it to you. but my advice to anyone who wants to practice real shaolin kungfu, is the 72 styles. unfortunately the 72 styles is not something monks teach because its so deadly, and its not magic, its years of torture and hard work, each style requires minimum of 3-4 years to reach minimum mastery level, but if you ask the right master to guide you they will.

  • yea true these days its very hard to find real shaolin, mostly are performing wushu,i would love to train in real shaolin, unfortunately its very few, maybe they dont exist anymore.

  • @MechPhantom I know a guy who teaches real shaolin, and study with him from time to time, but he mostly teaches traditional sanda, adapted to the modern world (meaning his sanda generally simulates 'unfair' situations), and he doesn't teach taolu to most people. He promised he'd teach me Praying Mantis once I could keep my legs on the ground, no matter what he does to me.

  • @AndyRaslan wow where lol ?! i wanna leanr haha, So i he in china or in ur country USA? So basically shaolin monks use sanda to fight right? and wat u mean by traditional sanda lol? i thought sanda is pretty recent and quite modern, creadted after the communists into modern wushu? thx for ur time bro

  • @MechPhantom Actually, he's in Romania. And SanDa/SanShou, depending on the context, means a modern chinese style of kickboxing or traditional martial arts free fighting.

And, Shaolin Monks don't use 'Sanda', they use the Wushu they practice in Sanda exercises. In a traditional context, as opposed to the modern kickboxing, Sanda simply means free fighting, and it isn't a style, it's an exercise.

  • @AndyRaslan oh ok cool. But wat u mean by an exercise lol? it looks more like a style than an exercise, and wat u mean by the monks practice wushu ? last time i checked its proven that when they fight they use the chinese form of kickbocing ,no doubt, even the head mons says it himself. so they use sanda for fight xD

  • @MechPhantom As I said, KickBoxing can be SanDa. But one guy using White Crane to defeat another guy using Snake in a friendly sparring match is also SanDa. It depends on the context.

Keep in mind that, under the influence of modern times, many styles of Kung Fu have been "standardized": you learn forms in a certain order, there is a strict beginning taolu for every style etc.

  • @AndyRaslan oh so white crane and snake also learn sanda ?

  • @MechPhantom No, what I meant is, it doesn't matter what style of Kung Fu you use, sparring with Snake or Crane or Tai Chi or BaGua or whatever is still SanDa. SanDa is simply Chinese Free-Fighting.

  • @AndyRaslan haha ok lol thx for elaborating. So err in ur opinion is sanda ,chinese kick boxing better than snake or mantis or tsichi?coz most ppl say dat its very effective tahn all of them . and which art is better?thx

  • @MechPhantom There's no such thing as a better art. It's true that certain styles are more suited for certain situations.

Also, people say kickboxing is better than traditional wushu for 2 reasons: traditional wushu has degraded in the modern age, and there are few teachers that teach it properly. Also, kickboxing is simpler, and has no internal elements like Chi control, and it takes less to learn to apply kickboxing in combat.

In the end, though, it's all about the individual and his teacher

  • @MechPhantom But kicboxing has drawbacks. First of all, most modern combat sports like kickboxing or MMA only teach you to fight one opponent at a time. I've taken some traditional shaolin classes and they put us in a lot of unfair situations in sanda, like 1 vs 2 or 3, or one is armed and the other is not etc.

Also, as I said earlier, what works best is determined by the situation and the individual's physique (bigger & stronger, smaller & more agile).

  • @AndyRaslan shit lol i love to hear u talk, very inspirational ,thx ,. But i hv to tell u something lol ,u say u do traditional shaolin right? but everybody says ( and i agree coz i hv experience it myself) that EVEN traditional shaolin does sanda/sanshou in an actual fight ,or study it for actual combat man . Some just put there "traditional" but actual they lie ,so maybe u too hv been deceived. But thx man talk to ya later.

  • @MechPhantom I think I'm in the better position to judge whether I've been deceived or not. And, whatever Sifu taught me, it sure as hell works.

Anyway, thanks for the praise and you're welcome. Remember, always put things in context, don't judge without being aware of the circumstances. Talk to ya later.

  • @AndyRaslan yea lol ok thx for ur time man ,any questions i will ask u since ur pro haha. Bye talk to ya later too

  • @AndyRaslan wait lol 1 question,so now shaolin is not very good already right? Their traditional fighting arts are now extinct and now most practice modern wushu and sanda . I wanted to learn shaolin but i hv to say its more like kickboxing now lol ,so i want to learn like winh chun or so. I also heard that wing chun, choy lay fut etc are traditional shaolin arts . So now its more of a sport than a deadly art. see ya bro

  • @MechPhantom Shaolin is extremely effective, but as I said, if the teacher isn't both very good at Kung Fu and very good at teaching Kung Fu (there are some who rock at kung fu but suck at teaching, and vice-versa) then you won't learn Shaolin kung fu very well.

And Wing Chun and Choy Lay Fut are not Shaolin martial arts. Choy Lay Fut is inspired from Choy Gar, Li Gar and Fut Gar, combined into a deadly system, and Wing Chun is a self-defense system invented by a woman of the same name.

  • @AndyRaslan sorry for the late reply lol,i hv just been working part time now to get money to learn shaolin, but i jsut hope wat u say is true lol,coz there are many ppl who learn shaolin are very very very dissappointed with it,most said its not the real thing anymore, its more of a sport than an art now. So yea thx soo mcuh man. see ya ,peace

  • this is not the real shaolin, but strangely enough it looks very clooooooose to authentic, if given the opportunity i'll go there

  • zikljöpi

  • this is not the real shaolin monastery. prove: there aren't kids in the real one!

  • cant find it for rent anywhere.....cant find it online......? really want to see this....

  • It's sold online... I'll send you a link

  • Shaolin while a wonderful place and very influential IS NOT THE BIRTHPLACE OF KUNG FU! Kung fu existed in China long before Shaolin was built. This lie has to stop.

  • Oh is it not? explain...

  • @fbi10 I'm gonna have to pm you because its gonna take a little space.

  • ok, whenever you want.

  • that looks quite good to be honest

  • You should put this film up for sale online. I know a lot of people would order it and buy it.

  • Great to see your hard work come to fruition, and thanks for letting me and my wife share in a part of your documentary coverage at Shaolin.

  • im sure 1 of them shaolins has to have a good chin and be true to a real base fighting, majority of people in any type of martial arts doesnt take it serious enough, so when they get in a real fight, they make the martial art look like crap, cause there not even doing it right and sticking to what they have been taught

  • whats the point of learning shaolin arts if your just going to be a big show off and not show what it can do in a real fight, sure you might not be able to use pressure points and certain moves, but if the shaolin is supsoe to be so great, he should be able fight with out the cheap attacks, if you ask me 1 good hit to there chin will ko's them, cause chin is something you can not build up, its something your born with, thats why you dont see shaolins breaking stuff over there chin, cause they ko

  • @theconqueror If all you want to do in a fight is prove how powerful you are by winning, stay home and buy a gun.
