Dude, if the guy on the bottom slides his oustide leg down closer to his own ankle, squeezes and extends, I dont think the dude on top would be able lift his leg. Besides I think a nasty nipple cripple would suffice :D
my trainer was trying to get me in lockdown yesterday, but i got him in a calf crank instead.. i had to bait him into it but i haven't seen it on the web so hopefully its my move..
Where can i learn all these submissions at? I really want to start doing these. I've been doing boxing for a little while and i want to start to spread my horizons because i want to try to be in the ufc
For the first pass, I personally keep the head control arm where it is and use it as a cross-face. This is a preventative measure to them playing the "other' half guard game (diving deep underneath you ala electric chair sweep, Jeff Glover Homer Simpson sweeps, x-guard transitions). If you move the arm as shown in the video, you are opening up that entire side of that game . . .
Also, the Mastering Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu - 8 DVD Set is by Gene Simco, I am sure those of you who have been practitioners of this incredibly addicting martial art for quite some time know who he is. Can you let me know about his credentials and if his instruction is solid. I can google it and research it online but nothing is better than getting it from those who actually train in the art. Thanks again fellas.
Hey guys i have a question: I am in the military and i train in alaska at anchorage brazilian jiu jitsu its a great place but my time is very very limited i am a member and i pay a monthly fee but i simply do not have the time right now. I just got married and we are buying a house and i am the only guy on base that does what i do. I am looking at the following videos right now so i can stay with the BJJ game: Mastering Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu - 8 DVD Set. Let me know what you all think, thanks.
purchase Mastering the Rubber Guard Book & DVD by Eddie Bravo & Mastering the Twister Book by Eddie Bravo, he will be releasing Mastering the Twister DVD this summer & you will have the whole 10th planet BJJ style on DVD
I find that the Apollo is hard to get IF YOU SPREAD your arms wide but John is correct...the arm triangle sweep (apollo) is there if you aren't careful. As always, there are counters to counters ;-)
I've been watching your vids for a while now and it's really amazing how much your lessons have matured, you guys are amazing! Thanks for introducing me to the 10th planet system!
Man, I love learning from you guys. I go to class and slip some of your techniques in on my class mates and they are always asking how I learned them. Lol,I tell them one day.....I guess.LOL I'm a Kempo practitioner by the way so we do jujitsu twice a month. Keep it up fellas.
Hi Ari -- great videos! Question: when you pass your left arm over his head, you're exposing yourself to the Apollo. Any tips on keeping it off? How important is that step (I noticed you skipped it late in the video). Thanks!
By keeping a wide arm base when I pass over my hands usually prevents the Apollo (arm triangle hook up.) Speed is also a factor as well. Good question!!!
What do you think about the video that just came out at the same place showing the whipup and the idl? It is at TakingItToTheMMAT ? Is there a recounter to that if you are using the lockdown?
Good Video. My counter to the IDL is making sure my LOCKDOWN is SUPER tight, whipping up and turning to my side very quickly or going for the ELECTRIC CHAIR when they attempt to stand for IDL.
Like I said, its always a battle but the % that the IDL will be successful is much lower than other passes and counters to the lockdown.
The higest percentage escape is the no hands pass or the one shown above but a good half guard player will be able to keep a tight hold and shut these down too.
Hey Submissions101, where is your Gym?

This may be off-topic...but rest in peace Master Helio Gracie. Without hm, there would be no 10th Planet JJ. My thoughts go out to the Gracies.
