@Conquistador556 Cataphracts are more powerful than Capadocian Cavalry. They have the most armor of any cav unit and armor penetrating maces for the secondary attack. They have a very powerful charge and can overpower most other heavy cav. They are well protected because of their armor. Their weakness is in their cost (very pricey to recruit an upgrade), are pretty slow and tire easily. You shouldn't have them running all the time or chasing routers. Use them at a critical point in the battle.

@Kanklelator yeah, I had to get a patch. Since I was using RTW/BI, I had to get the 1.6 patch. 1.5 is the normal patch that you need (depending on what version of the game you get).

im not sure if you're interest in naval tactics/battles and admirals as much as you are regarding land battles and generals, but if you are interested in naval battles/tactics you should check out admiral yi-soon-shin and his tactics the history in his battles are also very interesting! :D

Just wondering, if you play on 'most kills', isn't there an unfairness in which opponent you attack first? I mean it's logical you'll win if you attack an opponent that has chosen quantity over quality, isn't that so? Or does the system take that in account by given more points to expensive troops?

@DrabisPlace No, you're assuming that you're going to lose as many as your opponent. You're an amateur if that's your approach to battle. You deserve to lose before the battle even begins. Also, it's a Free For All. That implies MORE than 2 players.

I admit I'm an amateur, that's certain. But if I watch your video, the Free For All dissolved more in 2 2vs2 battles and then the winners of those battles match up to each other. If I continue to use your battle as example, you fought an opponent that has chosen quantity over quality where the other 2 both chose quality, isn't that so? So logically you would get more kills because your opponent has more troops. Now I was wondering if that scoring system takes that in account.

So if I understand correctly, there's no difference whatsoever if you kill a peasant or a fully upgraded spartan hoplite if the winning condition is most kills but it does ofcourse matters for the setup of your army and so your chances of winning. Thanks for the explanation.

@mazedog1 It derives from the myth about Seleucid legionnaires, although ancient sources are divided on whether or not the Silver shields completely reformed to the assault infantry form (Thorakitai form, upgraded using the idea of the Kataphraktoi and using Greek equipment and tactics) or they were split into two halves of 5 thousands each, one reformed that way and other fighting in the old phalanx way.

@iseeallforme Actually The Seleucid Legionaries are not Myth.Mithridates brought them in after noticing his infantry where not able to take on the legions of Rome(Mithridates had slave phalanx's) .He then created the "Imitation Legionaries"

@WRH90059 As far as I know Seleucids fighting in Roman fashion is myth. The "Imitation Legionnaires" as far as I know are those Thorakitai Argyraspides, who would be more akin to the Cataphracts. The Pontic Army (That is, Mithridates) did field the Roman-influenced units such as the Machairophoroi.

@iseeallforme The Pontic Roman-influenced units are more like the Legionnaires than any of the Seleukid units. In fact, most of Roman style of warfare, such as the maniples or the pila never made it to either the Seleukids or the Ptolemaioi. The Seleukid heavy infantry was based more upon Gallic and Greek tactics, using equipments that are of Greek origin (with influences from Gallic mail) well before any Roman Influence.

@iseeallforme And the "Imitation legionnaires" even of Pontos was largely of Greek origin (although in Pontos it usually consisted of the freed slaves, phalangites-turned-thorakitai, and Hellenized foreigners) with some Roman influence. When Romans speak of those imitations, they usually are talking about heavy infantry not fighting in the phalanx.
