Oh hell yea...Guano Apes with their best song ever makes ANYTHING look bad @ss. Your job's rewarding enough without me stating the obvious...glad the world has guys like you.
what is up with calling them freeloaders??? i guess by your standards firemen are a waste of taxpayer money too and throw cops in with that... i hope you die in a house fire you worthless peices of shit
Furthermore, most of us working stiffs put in an 8 to 10 hour day AND THEN WE TRAIN!! We also train with ALOT more weight!! This child's heart is not into this, all he wants is the free taxpayer hand out!! Look at him.. Better finish up son, Superfriends starts in 10 minutes!!
@gabesbad Hey nice video btw, I want to join the USCG as a rescue swimmer...but theres one setback i live in Australia any ideas for when im older how i can join the USCG? Also ive seen 2 types of helicopter the Jayhawk and the Dauphin do you get to choose which you fly on? Thanks
Hmmmm power cleans with a whole 135lbs.. Impressive!! Ok, one more time, when you realize you are completely useless, much like women ending up in porn, little boys end up in the coast guard. After all, it's NON MILITARY and you get the free ride on the taxpayer!! Isnt it time for another Elizabeth City KEGGER? Celebrating that dude that fell off the party cutter and glossing yourselves with more plaques? Try getting your GED and maybe a real job for a change? Give us all a break!
@Davidandrew73 I know one thing David, if you're in the coast guard? You ENDED UP there because you're useful for nothing else. Sling insults if you like. It's a meaningless little waste of tax dollars. Freeloader. Get a job!!
@lietzke hes the smart one, he does something that is actually fun and he enjoys, he gets paid to do it and he get bennifets for him and his children in the future.i dont see how that is stupid at all, you must really love your job..what exactly do you do that is so rewarding
@lietzke stop bitching. these people risk their lives " so others may live ". all you do is sit on your ass all day. these guys risk their lives for a living. just because you will never amount to nothing doesnt mean anything. stop bitching about these men. go join them and see how hard it really is. bet you wont be bitching then
@gabesbad I am currently stationed on a 378' out of San Diego and am #66 on the AST list. Any advice you can give me? I hear underwaters are the big killer so I've been working on those a lot, but is there any info I can get out of you that will make it easier on me? Workout plans, what to prepare for, what gave you the most trouble, etc.?
@gbh05210 So are you still #66? How many candidates are taken into each class? Do you know when you will start training? Well, on the bright side, you have time to get in shape! Good luck to you!
@gabesbad wow that's kinda a while but if it's what you really want to do then I guess that it's worth the wait huh? It's something that I'm really considering I no that I'm a woman and that it's hard but life's hard nothing comes easy and some things you just have to go for. I'm waiting on a recruiter but I guess they are all busy.
@sixamanda Yeah it is hard to get into the coast guard right now.. There has been a slowdown in recruiting due to budget cuts. If you really want to do it keep trying and you will get in eventually. It can help if you know anyone in the coast guard to go in to the recruiter with them and it will help you get in quicker for sure.
@gabesbad well that sux. I don't no anyone but o well I'll just have to keep on trying. This is what I rly want so I gotta do it. Are you a rescue swimmer? Was the training hard?
@sixamanda Yeah I'm a rescue swimmer, and if it is what you really want to do you can make it. Just make sure you prepare yourself for the training it is not that easy.
@gabesbad yea I figured it would be hard all the good things usually are but those are the ones that are worth fighting for. So if you don't mind me asking when did you join the coast guard? Yea I better start working myself up lol.
@sixamanda january 2007 was when I reported to boot camp. I'm really glad I did it and would recomend it. The Coast Guard is paying for my college now and I have the best job ever.
@gabesbad hm that sounds nice. I think that I will pursue it. SO how long were you in training? I don't get why some people hate the coast guard so much. They won't when they are in trouble and you save them.
Im planning on joining the Coast Guard next year after I graduate, I would really love to become a rescue swimmer. I have yet to see or hear of a female rescue swimmer... Do you know that there are any?
@ComeOnSuki There are 3 female rescue swimmers, so yes you could definitely become a rescue swimmer. If you really want to do it you can. Just start training on push-ups, pull-ups to make sure you are strong enough by the time you join the coast guard. I would try to be able to do at least 5 pull ups 5 chin ups 40 push ups, 50 sit ups.
Once you get to the airman program there is around a 25% pass rate. The airman program is the 4 months before school and about 50% drop out from injuries, quitting or failing the PT standards once you get through that you go to school which is another 4 months and the dropout rate is around 50% there as well.
Britty, to become a rescue swimmer you go to boot camp for 8 weeks. After boot camp you go to your first duty station which could be a small boat station, cutter, or preferably an Air station. At your station you can put your name on a waiting list to go to "AST A school" Rescue Swimmer School.
Once you are done waiting on the list probably 6 to 8 months later your orders will pop up to go to an airman program where you learn about the helicopter, how to fuel and do the most basic helicopter maintenance. After Airman program you will go to A school which is another 4 months, the first 2 months you will be training in the pool, running and doing PT almost 8 hours a day, and the second 2 months you PT 3 days a week
@gabesbad i am just going into highschool and i plan on going into the coast guard and trying to become a rescue swimmer...The only way im allowed to do so is if i get a college education like at an academy of some sort.. Is that the path you took or did you go straight to boot camp? then through all the other steps...
@DABEARS500 I didn't get my college degree before I joined. I just went straight to bootcamp, but i'm getting it now that i'm in and the cool thing is I'm getting my college degree, and Coast Guard is paying for it 100%
@gabesbad Alright so ot doesn't really matter if you do it before or during? one of my family friends hes a rescue swimmer im waiting for him to come home from Alaska so i can talk to him about the way he did it.. I just wanted to make sure going to an Academy or any college first would hurt my chances of getting in to the rescue swimmer program. Also where are you stationed as a swimmer?
@DABEARS500 alright so it really doesnt matter if you do it before or after? because if thats the case i will probably go to an academy first...One of my family friends son he is a rescue swimmer in Alaska i am waiting for him to come home so i can talk to him but he doesnt get much time off hes either in Oregon or Alaska.
IpodJon, If you graduate Rescue Swimmer school you get to pick out of the available stations where they need people. Also it depends on how well you do at school, so if someone scores higher than you at school they will have top pick and may take the LA pick.
Oh hell yea...Guano Apes with their best song ever makes ANYTHING look bad @ss. Your job's rewarding enough without me stating the obvious...glad the world has guys like you.

How long is the training all together for a rescue swimmer?
sixamanda 1 year ago
@sixamanda The actual training is around 9 or 10 months. If you are counting from bootcamp to flying and standing duty it could be 2-3 years.

@MrKasper47 yeah but the Coast Guard doesn't just do rescues we also do law enforcement and boat inspections and make sure everyone is being safe.
It's true though even those people who hate us will love us when they are in trouble.
