hahaha oh my gosh! my partner and i are going to be learning how to get some air soon after a solid year of technique boot camp on the floor. I have to recommend this for shits and giggles.
@missheath000 You should really take lessons. You'll learn a lot more faster. You should also look into going to a swing dance camp or workshop weekend, where you can learn from some of the best dancers from around the world.
@lindyhop411 learning on the floor is free and perhaps just as helpful if you befriend the right people. But I agree, classes are helpful as well, but not necessary. Discovering the art of motion comes from personal experience and reflection, not just instruction. There are many things about movement and momentum, connection, etc. that I learned from experience, not from somebody telling me. Most of the professionals that competed in the 90s and early turn of the century have reported that they
I prefer to learn on the floor because I feel I get a greater depth of understanding through the hard work of discovery that is usually not achieved through solely taking classes alone
@missheath000 You have to social dance in order to learn how to dance, but if you are avoiding instruction because you think you don't need it, I assure you, you are wrong. I've had private lessons completely change my dancing in an hour that I probably never would have thought about if I was just a social dancer. Additionally, the people that broke down videos also learned from the people that originated the steps, and took private lessons from them, not on their own.
@An4entse Take up Lindy Hop, and then take a private from Nathalie and Yuval. They created this move. (BTW, they wore a special harness under their clothes in order to do it right.)
@hellomynameis10 The move was created by Nathalie Gomes and Yuval Hod. Check out their routines from 2003 and 2004. You should ask them what it's called.

No I have asked for help before when i was stuck and it helped me a lot. But I will continue to respectfully disagree that lessons are not necessary.

learned from watching old videos and practicing from each other more than workshops as workshops were not as frequent as they are today.

Woe! thats pretty cool. but i dont think that wood floor would be a great place to do it....
JonasFan33333 1 year ago
@JonasFan33333 It's a bad place to practice it, as you should always practice on a mat, but swing dancing is normally done on a wood floor.
