  • I don't suppose this production was filmed?!

  • I love it at 6:30 what a genius idea

  • Che classe e che voce meravigliosa! Grazie per lo splendido filmato!

  • LOL she shrieked out a top F to my ears!

  • maybe it's just me...but the way she does teh coloratura at 6:23 to the top of the scale at 6:30 is just histerical~! hahahaha I love it ^_^

  • Who is singing the Marquise?? Is it Regina Resnik?

  • wonder if joan sing to here self now she is retired

she was the greatest. i still listen to joan

  • Wow, so rare! As most people commented: Amazing!! BTW, why the angle was taken all from the side of the stage?

  • This video was recorded from the right wing of the Met stage.

  • Is she really 57 here?! Just awesome. Sutherland was infectiuos. You can listen to "current" divas, admire them etc. But listening to other voices in "her" roles is like moving from a castle to a doll house. Nothing wrong with it. Just a matter of size. Marie in her prime remains unmatched.

  • Amazing. Do you have more videos from this performance?

    5/5

  • A singing lesson for sure....delivered by Dame Joan. Lovely.

    Thanks coloraturafan.

  • Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What a wonderful celebration of the return of your account! As usual, Sutherland gives an all-out performance (even though she's a little long in the tooth). I've always loved this scene (what a ham, lol), and she does it excellently here! We have you to thank for showing us this video, not to mention the person backstage who took it!

P.S. - Who are playing the Marquise and Sulpice? Looks like the Marquise actually did play the piano too, which is great!

  • Here is the information for this clip: Metropolitan Opera House October 24, 1983 LA FILLE DU RÉGIMENT {74} Marie...................Joan Sutherland Tonio...................Alfredo Kraus Marquise of Berkenfield.Gwynn Cornell Sergeant Sulpice........Ara Berberian Hortentius..............Andrea Velis Duchesse of Krakentorp..Jane White Peasant.................William Mellow Corporal................William Fleck Conductor...............Richard Bonynge
  • I suppose I could have looked on the Met's archive page, duh. Thanks for posting it though, as I'm sure other's like to know.
