the reason for that is the inaccuracy of the muskets, its impossible to shoot someone with a musket the way we fight wars now, with the introduction of rifling, we started to see skirmishers in loose formation who were able to hit even the other skirmishers in loose formation, eventually, that style of warfare became more popular, and here we are today

We could have put more resources into the campaign, but decided to withdraw because of certain other countries becoming involved. I didnt say were we won, I just want to point out that you did NOT win from a militarily perspective, and you certainly did not defeat the British Army with pitchforks contrary to some popular belief!

I agree, we couldn't fight France and Spain and America all at once, we needed to come home and defend against invasion, which we did. BTW we historically won this battle, the writer just took an American victory and this battle and pulled it together. Also the last bit where they chase the americans only to their impending doom is a little reminiscent of Braveheart is it not?!

This battle actually is officially supposed to be a mixture of Guilford Courthouse and the Cowpens. The bit were the British troops run over the hill and American marksmen shoot them to pieces (which you said reminded you of Braeheart) was in reality Daniel Morgan's Rifle Corp at the Cowpens and led to an American victory, but the presence of Greene and Cornwallis with his orders to fire at the center did happen at Guilford's Courthouse... these just mixed the battles together.

i would like to point out that france didn't fully come in to the fighting part of the war, until after it was apparent that America had a good shot at winning. Britain was a power hungry war machine back than, so France didn't want to fight against them if there was a chance for them to lose and be humiliated.Plus, France had money problems and didn't want to go broke by investing in a lost cause.

Vipernight, Britain was otherwise engaged pretty much continualy fighting the French and its many allies at this moment in time 1792-1815 & fighting America 1785 to 1773. only 12% of British troops were sent to America and still they won the majority of battles and took far more citys, they infact burned washington to the ground! Americas fleet and trade were decimated by the Royal Navy! - Cryslers Farm 800 Brits to 8000 Americans and you still lost. there was no catigorical US victory!

Britain held its ground honourably and loss far less than USA did - France got ITS ass absolutely kicked to death by the British in the Peninsular War, the Napoleonic Wars and basically anywhere else we bumped into them across the world. Britain has always taught france lessons in war. And lets face it, 9/10 War of Independence battles were British Victories outright. Britain wasn't just agaisnt Continentals and French - Spanish and Dutch too ;)

I just find it so fascinating how the British on here try to use that old trick in order to excuse their defeat... "Well the Americans never would have won without the French."

1.) The British Army hired 30,000 Hessian mercenaries to fight their war because they had little man power and knew that their own infantry couldnt defeat the Colonials alone.

2.) The French arrived late in the course of the war and they saw little ground action and combat. French assistance was fought on the seas.

It depends what you call a victory or defeat. COventional war, the British could win. An unconventional war, the British were no match at all up against the Continentals.

The war was a hopeless and lost cause for England. We know this for several reasons. The British supply ships were seized, the Conttinentals had better intelligence due to spying, and likewise, the British did not know the land due to inaccurate maps and their plain lack of knowledge of the terrain.
