At least they tried to entertain you in those days ! Now we have fucking antiques, DIY,how to buy a house, Noel Edmonds ! X Factor ! Thanks Rolf, at least you made an effort at something. Noel Edmonds, Chris Tarrant, Richard Madeley and the rest, talentless morons who earn a small fortune. Total Shit.
You were born in 1985? Heavens, I was already 26 years old! This is a typical variety programme from the sixties, the dancers enthusiasm is infectious. Most television recordings of the period have been wiped, but those which survive are wonderful. On YouTube, there's a 1968 edition of "Cilla" (Cilla Black's show) featuring Cliff Richard singing our Eurovision entry for that year.
You know, I saw this when BBC4 showed it, and was quite surprised by how thoroughly I enjoyed it. Don't know why I should've been surprised - great talent, great songs, great orchestra charts, such astonishing energy... Yup, this is what I missed out on by being born in 1985: proper musical variety shows. I'm afraid the Simon Cowell Machine just does not cut it in comparison. And it's my loss.
Just noticed your comment, Sarah, from about six months ago! I found your name by clicking into your YouTube profile. Am I single? Sorry, no, I am in a civil partnership!

Sarah - sorry that it's so loud, it was an early experimental upload. I hope that your hearing has recovered!
