John was wonderful singing the National Anthem... There are some corrections that need to be made when John was announced the announcer said that John is from Philadelphia and he's not John was born in NYC it's Daryl who is from PA Pottstown to be exact. The reason being that they are known as the boys from Philly is where they met @ Temple University. And I know this no one doing but a Tampa fan this is THE 2009 W S and IT IS CLEARLY KNOWN THAT IT WAS THE YANKEES AND THE PHILLIES YANKS WON
@kitrik23 - Oh yeah, he sang lead on some of their minor hits - "Italian Girls," "Possession Obsession". He's talented too, but he's taken a backseat to Daryl. Never complained once as far as I know. Not a big ego on that guy, which is rare among entertainers, and it's probably why they are still together after all these years.
How shocked I was to see John singing -- what am awesome treat! But also as an often-disappointed (and kinda superstitious) Philly sports fan, I thought back to '93 when Daryl sung -- that's when we lost to Toronto, though Daryl had nothing to do with that. Having John perform it was FANTASTIC and was only fitting to have a native Philadelphian sing. Thanks for posting!
As a fan, I'm keenly aware that Daryl gets more of the spotlight. However, John sings lead on some songs(even on a hit, sometimes) and background/harmony count as singing, too. I relish every time I see John alone and I think it's a shame that they didn't ask him first.
Did Daryl Hall not sing due to Lyme disease? Read somewhere he had to cancel due to illness(My personal profile here addresses Lyme disease). Daryl Hall's comments in a June 2008 newspaper article about Lyme disease seemed very realistic. He emphasized the controversy involved, etc. Said he's had it for three years and his perspective sounded quite similar to mine at that time. He mentioned tremors. Watch for vertigo and seizures next. Thanks....
definitely dont think thats the case, although he had lyme disease he has a monthly web show where he sings and in fact i just saw him in concert on nov. 7 and he seemed fine
Thanks, will be interested to see how he does over time. It can be relapsing-remitting. I was diagnosed in 2002 but hiked Pikes Peak 3X in 2004 and 110 miles of Pacific Crest Trail in SW Washington in about 4-1/2 days (avg. over 25/day) so was doing good at times too. But periodic seizures evolved to minor stroke this past winter, walking very slowly, lost capacity for hiking pretty much completely.
iaswerqtyu, lucky you to have John Oates as your Dad! Not only is he extremely talented but he also is very cool. I was lcuky enough to win a meet/greet in 2004 during the Rock'N'Soul Tour and he was so concerned that we were having a good time and enjoying the concert, he also was very easy to talk to. That was the best concert I've been to, your Dad and Daryl rocked the house down!!
TJ you look so much like your dad. Seriously though, give him a big hug and please thank him for me for all the years of awesome music. He and Darryl have made me smile for years. Peace lil bro.
Well, if it's really you, T, I wish you could know what an impact his music has had on me. Plus you're lucky to have a dad who was ready to be a dad when you came and probably is one of the best dads ever. I saw his solo show in Colorado on 2004. I stood very close to the stage and felt like he was singing to me. He listened when I yelled out requests and he shook my hand. What a nice man and talented person!!!!!!
No Pressure!
( what can you say: balls of steel )
Amazing & well done John!
Glad you're showing the folks what you got.
