  • omg its soo cool but look at a space shuttle launching and imagine if yu were in it that would be scary man

  • @luilory No I think this is Edwards due to the desert.

  • Are they landing at Kennedy Space Center?

  • nice landing 6:01

  • 29 people were alternates to this mission

  • Cool video. The app store has a space shuttle flight simulator for $1.99. It's called F-SIM.. It's very realistic. I can't stop playing the game..it's very fun and challenging. The game reminded me of this video.

  • its too bad that obama ruined are chances of ever going back up to space....... or not anytime soon . China is gonna take over

  • A nose dive lasting for about a minute is truely awesome, just to land on a runway! =O As though we feel the coaster's greatest drop forever!

  • @lol0924 Just don't eat anything right before!

  • i woul love to go to the moon

  • amazing how they fly and land that brick

  • I am amazed. There were 133 landing attempts in the shuttle program, and the worst thing that ever happened was some blown tires. That is saying something for a vehicle that is falling like a rock and touches down at Indy car speeds. Thanks for all the hard work NASA.

  • hahahahahahaha we russians are now in the lead

  • @blahblah48856 wot-eva ;)

  • Wow. Um, if I were on that crew, you'd hear me complaining. A lot. "No. Please. I REALLY don't want to go back down to this place. Come on guys. Hey. Ehhhhhhh.... DAMMIT!"

  • That is awesome! Can you make the resolution better?

  • Nice landing. Good job by the guy keeping the pilots informed. Calm and confident.

  • I didn't see that. You are right, the G-2 cannot get anywhere near 80K feet. I was surprised at the amount of talking. I fly 747-400s for a living and there is not anywhere near that much chatter during the descent and landing. I will say that this is a pretty neat look into what goes happens on the flight deck during the landing.

  • This thing is a sinker

  • Hmmm. Could this be shuttle landing practice in the G-2? There seems to be alot of instruction going on.

  • @embpic No because the G2 doesnt get to 80,000 feet according to the HUD display. Also it sounds like Marsha Ivens is talking. The mission specialist dont practice G2 landings. Just the PLT & CDR along with the instructors.

  • ''God this is fun'' ''Yes its awesome''

  • any chance you could reupload in better resolution?

  • wow

  • Holy approach Batman

  • Thanks so much for the awesome picture. Appreciate it. It takes your breath away. Historical.

  • The shuttle commander is basically following the flight director. Basically pitch and roll commands, and then just pitch command when he levels out of the dive. However it is still manually flown by hand on the joystick.

  • that was amazeing :)

  • Just comin back from space... whats up

  • great vid thx alot

  • Technology + training = awesome.

  • wow... stunning job.. :)

  • wow

  • It is a good picture though

  • Marsha must be the cooooolest mom in the world. and outside it.

  • really amazing, thanks dude

  • I believe this was STS-98. I heard a call for "Marsha" which I believe was astronaut Marsha Ivins, who was on that crew. Plus, STS-98 was flown by Atlantis and it landed at Edwards AFB. Good stuff all around.

  • Oh please these astronauts today are nothing but spam in the can because auto pilot controls the whole take off and landing in the shuttle. The pilots does nothing but sit their and go for the ride.

  • @duncan7599 Then why aren't you an astronaut? I mean if they just sit there why send ACTUAL pilots (particularly since it costs millions to train them) and not just send randoms? The answer is cause they do a LOT from calculating critical angle of re-entry (if you fuck that up, and its a 1% margin, you die) to landing it at base. They do a lot and they want only the greatest candidates.

  • @duncan7599 You are aware they are trained to take over and fly manually, right?

  • @duncan7599 You're a dumb little fucker aren't you?At launch the Space Shuttle is nothing more than a brick with fire cracker attached to it.It's going 90 degrees vertical straight to the sky before going prograde and achieving orbit insertion. There is nothing to pilot. The space shuttle can't simply be piloted by a human that's being rocked around by high G's.If they're off a x degrees from the path, they might be too far to rendezvous with the ISS given the limited amount of fuel they have.

  • @KDALove Well you just proved my point then. They dont do shit then but sit their in that tin can and go for the ride and waste tax payers dollars. I am glad that the shuttle program is ending.

  • @duncan7599 Again, you're a dumb little fucker aren't you? When the shuttle reaches the ISS they take with them materials and conduct experiments on the ISS, which is set up as an orbiting laboratory. They have conducted extensive studies that has lead to breakthroughs in medicine, engineering, and geology, to name a few.And to answer your question, when the Space Shuttle is coming down in the atmosphere, the pilots are the ones piloting the spacecraft, as shown in this video

  • @duncan7599 You realise for every dollar spent on NASA they have returned 7 dollars in terms of advances in technology, materials and weather forecasting...

  • @fakeclanAbaddon What bull shit. The only thing Astronauts do is float around and work on useless projects that NASA gives them to keep them busy and make the whole sherade look legit to the naive public. Billions is spent each year on this crap and nothing to show for it. Well I guess it doesnt matter any how since the wasteful shuttle has been finally canceled by President Obama. I am glad we finally have a leader that realized what a waste NASA is.

  • @duncan7599 "Nothing to show for it." Really? NASA and it's predecessor NACA have contributed more to aviation and atmospheric science than any other single entity. Their research and influence are present on almost every single aircraft in service today.

  • @duncan7599 This universe is bigger than all of us or this tiny spec of an earth, I'd pay as much as I could for humans to take just one tiny step into the blackness that utterly envelops us. You're one of the many humans that are just utterly ignorant of a universe that owes us nothing.

  • @TheZenEffect We are not going to do anything in space any more you nerd treckie. NASA and the U.S space program is dead because we as a nation is bankrupt. Get it through all your thick skuls out their. No more money folks for the space treckies, were screwed. China is going to take up the space program now.

  • @duncan7599 The space program is alive and well. The budget has not changed. Their still spending almost 20 billion a year. The shuttle budget will be spent on other things. It was just 3 billion of the total budget.

  • @aimhigh59 How can you say the space program is alive and well when now and long into the future U.S. astronauts are going to the back seat hitch hiking on russian rockets. Sounds to me NASA has taken a back seat and is never going to ever be as it once was. NASA no longer has the ability to send astronauts into space. And dont believe the ORION space program its all bull because the U.S is going to default long before ORION is due.

  • @duncan7599 Because there is so much more going on in the space program. Now if you want to say the US wont be launching there own astronauts for awhile you would be right. It makes us seem like second class to the rest of the world. There are I think 10 or 11 Nasa centers around the country. They employ a lot of people and there is much much work going on. You and I will both miss shuttle launches a lot....

  • @aimhigh59 Well you say NASA is still strong and active and employs a lot of people? Well tell that to the 9,000 workers at NASA who just got laid off.

  • @duncan7599 No one at Nasa got layed off. Contractors got layed off. And its not 9000 all at once. This has been going on for 2 years now. The final 2000 got layed off Friday. And with budget problems and bad politics, more contractor personnel will probably be layed off this Oct.

  • @duncan7599 It's time to let the private sector take over inner-space travel. It has been WAY too expensive for states to launch but just watch how fast the cost will drop given competition etc. that companies will be able to provide.

  • @crazyassmofoz - richard branson is already in the progress of making a space vehicle.

  • @TheZenEffect Right on.

  • @TheZenEffect Duncan7599 really is a poopy head

  • @duncan7599 Actually they do have to do a lot during the lift-off. And only the beginning of the landing is on auto pilot, the most of it is flown manually by the commander.

  • @basvg1 What do they have to do during lift off ?

  • @aimhigh59 They have to threw switches and most importantly monitor the systems.

  • @basvg1 What particular switches do they have to throw ? Monitoring the systems is a givin....

  • Comment removed

  • @basvg1 Most of the landing is flown manually ? After de-orbit burn, how much is flown manually ?

  • Comment removed

  • @aimhigh59 There has once been a commander (STS-2) who flew the complete re-entry. Usually the commander takes the controls at 5 minutes before touchdown.

  • @basvg1 Yes, STS 2 has done it to test parameters. But you're statement said most of landings are flown manually. I guess you educated yourself to see that most of it is done by the computers. As far as your statement about throwing switches on ascent, during a nominal ascent with no issues, there are only 2 switches to throw. One is the LVLH switch (ADI ref.) and abort mode switch as they work their way up hill. A few switches are throw while sitting on the pad but not many.

  • i just cant imagine having to glide it with a crosswind or headwind man these guys are insane

  • epitome of piloting skills! gliding from space to earth!

  • 6:09 jesus christ he almost broke the toy

  • I think the Youtube generation are so fortunate to be able to watch video like this. Not actually having to fly into space but flying along with them, so to speak, as they fly along at about 22,000 miles an hour. This is so cool. Thank you NASA

  • Damn, talk about an angle of approach.

  • and the fucking deorbit burn?

  • @hderhty I think this was well after the deorbit burn.

  • From that altitude? WTF?

  • omfg respect for this pilot, no thrust at all and such a smooth landing! you can be my pilot anyday!

  • @vsbfbmusic. They get one attempt and one attempt only. There are no engines in the shuttle, it's a glider.

  • @MayhewHD no engines????? what the fuck are the 3 things at the rear of the aircraft.

  • @livefreeinuk1 There are engines, but the three at the rear are only used during launch. Landing is entirely by gliding.

  • can a space shuttle actually go around, or do the pilots only have one try?

  • "...better get the gear!" what a pro

  • SIMPLY AMAZING. All that heavy weight of a Craft gliding from heaven down to Earth without engines and lands spot on at the right perfect position on the runway.

  • Looks like Nintendo.

  • @strmking101

Actually there has never been an automated shuttle landing although the shuttle does have autoland capability in case of an emergency where the pilots are incapacitated.

  • That's crazy looking at the alt. tape saying 84,000 ft. And GLIDING! He's right on the hack the whole time. Great pilot.

  • @patton303 It's 'HAC' (Heading Alignment Circle).

  • @wazzmastermax

    Thanks...

  • where th hell did they land in? a runway in AREA 51?

  • @xHzDxKING Edwards AFB north of L.A. Have landed there like 54 times due mostly to bad weather in Florida.

  • "Lookin' good, Taco." :-)

  • i heard rumours that the boeing 767 was developed from designs that were orignally intended for a new space vehicle for nasa but got cancelled so they used the funding for the 767

  • Has anyone ever landed on the wrong continent? LOL

  • How humans have managed to do this will always amaze me. We can launch giant shuttles into space and bring them back perfectly but we can't keep it cool on earth. Wow.

  • Thanks for this priceless gem!

  • uh! what's the rate of descent and the angle?

  • @Julman75

about 10,000 feet per minute at an angle of 20°

  • I love the teamwork we hear in that last minute of flight. Thanks for the upload.

  • 5:00 2000ft in 10sec O_o

  • how is this fake>?

  • this is obviously fake

  • @Sylvanas17 prove it!!!

  • @paywalker1 lmao

  • @Sylvanas17 You know - there's a fine line between making a dumbass statement and being a dumbass.

    You crossed that line.

  • @EndeavourLaunch And an even finer line between being a dumbass and not being a human at all. He crossed that line too.

  • @Sylvanas17 : you are the dumbest thing on the whole world, trust me !!!

  • @Sylvanas17 no its not fake and even if it was just shut the fuck up because no one cares about your opinion.

  • @Sylvanas17 Actually, it isn't. It is a landing at Edwards AFB on runway 22R. You can recognize the distinctive shape of the AFB and also vaguely the runways on. Rogers Dry Lake.

  • @Sylvanas17 So are you!

  • great video, thanks for sharing!

  • haha this a NICE FAKE! video made from using the Space Flight Simulator App for iPhone/iPad. Nice try though nearly had me fooled. also you guys are really good at following the auto-pilot note ;) haha

  • 18 people who disliked this are alien burned in the turbine haha

  • I saw the floor change

  • at like 6:17 - 6:18 the ground changes, thumbs up if you noticed.

  • @Yeahumjesus The video skipped, or was edited.

  • Imagine how cool its be up there.. When they come under the clouds.. just wow, that view. Would like to be there, i would do any job in a space shuttle lol

  • Amazing. I think it'd be such a relief to be back on the ground.

  • Imagine they landed in North Korea? Lol

  • @aarons24 LOL how do they know where theyr'e going

  • @xabii22alonsoo GPS, TACAN, Microwave landing system

  • Did you know space shuttle is not aerodynamic at all, its like a flying brick like rockstarcrane said, but the whole body acts as a lifting body during re entry.

  • Amazing...thanks 4 posting!!!

  • AWESOME...Tried this on a pc for 3 hrs finally got it right...SSSSSooooooo Hard to fly

  • holy crap at 5:08 they lost 1000 feet in 7 seconds!

  • Who would dislike this video?? 5 stars man, five stars!

  • what was that loud sound at 3:53

  • @elephant35e Sounds like sombody opened a window! *LOL*

  • @technocrash09

lol need to feel the fresh wind in the hairs

  • Man, they really stay on script. He's still reading off the last thirty knots five at a time when they have tons of runway ahead.

  • the should install big rectractable rotors and helicopter that sucker slowly down XD

  • Look at that centre-line co-ordination - straight from space! I know idiots who can't manage it in a Cessna...

  • beautiful views! wish it would be a bit more clearer....thank you for sharing!

  • amazing video. thanks a lot for sharing

  • @64h5dsf14j6s41h5s4j5

Drops a mile in 50 sec. WOW! Now thats a glide slope!

  • a simulator lol

  • @not1kill You're joking right?

  • @swjgt shit lol yea, i put lol at then end so pplknew i was jokin :P

  • kolaski has been on wikipedia.

  • shit video quality.

  • Man! That is some serious flying!!

    Well done!

  • I know of one that is a Russian HERO!!!!!!!

  • Are they landing at Edwards Air Base ? It doesn't look like Florida...

  • @ZemplinTemplar Un mistakenly Edwards it is...

  • @ZemplinTemplar Yes Edwards. it's STS-98

  • shut up kolasky no one cares if u die in iraq

  • And the seemingly endless training pays off! Man. That is one heck of a glider!

  • whats the sound at 6:11?

  • @elephant35e Nosegear touchdown!

  • Let's hear some more intelligence on the Space Shuttle .

  • You can't even phrase retard correctly . And you want to insult an engineer ? You can barely spell . I wouldn't put my name on here either if I were going to engage in controversy and retreat like a little cunt .

  • Who the fuck are you , kid . What great acheivements have you accomplished ? You pretend to be a soldier on video in a fantasy world when real people like me have done it for real . You are so fucking nothing but a piece of crap . You think you know aeronautical engineering ? You can't comprehend a vehicle of equal mass ? The space shuttle is something you should maybe study so you have a basis to insult , you little piece of shit .

  • The many kids here on youtube are the most arrogant , selfish , direspectful , antagonistic little bastards of any generation of the past . And then grow up to be simple cowards who wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire . They are simply SATANIC in nature . It is very difficult to be optimistic about the future generations . They will fuck up everything the previous generations worked so hard to establish ." Wheresthebeef " thinks he is entitled to tell an engineer who fought in war, crap

  • ANGER . It's called trauma fuck head . Why are you so fucking entitled ? I am fighting the government V.A. . They wanted me to die in Iraq . I bet your little arrogant ass thinks the same . Me dead . FUCK YOU PUNK .

  • @kolaski33 U mad?

  • You have anger issues dude.

  • They get bored easily .

  • So many little kids who pose as adults and have false courage . I am getting tired of their bullshit . I wish there was a way to contact their parents .

  • @WhereIsTheBeefBro Wheres the beef ? You know where it is right ? You piece of shit little homosexual cocksucker . You hide with no profile becuase you are a straight up coward . Closet case . Deceitful . Arrogant . Then you will say " Oh , I'm bored " and run and hide .

  • @WhereIsTheBeefBro Fuck you and bend over you little bitch . Oh , you can't rape the willing . Here we go again with youtube wars ! Your parents need to be beaten . Your mother sucks your daddys dick punk ass little faggot .

  • @kolaski33 your comparison with a locomotive is just non-sense...

  • WOW

  • very very nice videos tov toda

  • Landing speed is 230 miles per hour .

  • Mach 2 is about 1,500 miles per hour at altitude . The exterior temperature is about 300 degrees . Re-entry velocity is about Mach 13 .

  • Mach 2 is about 1,500 miles per hour at altitude .

  • holyyyyy shitttt.....

  • wow i just download this an shuttle landing app, its actually pretty close to this amazing

  • Increasingly, engineers want to depart far the pilots of flight controls. The time had come that the pilot had conducted various activities in space flight, fly less.

And finally, are left with only pictures and mystique of the function.

  • How moving.

  • Free gliding all the way. Sure dosen't take that long to get back to ground from space. Way to go guys! :)

  • it looks like the final approach had a really sharp descent..the Austronauts must have excellent blood vessels to withstand such a great amount of negative G

  • Nice job
