Edwards AFB (Club Ed) is special.

F-22's were breaking the sound barrier at Mach 2 at Edwards 10 years ago. We see it all here. Sonic booms occur almost 3X a day. Rough on the nervous and visitors.

It can knock stuff off the shelfs in the house and rattles the hangar doors like a mad giant.

I saw the video of the aircraft making its way over the Atlantic and you are right it is louder. I guess its louder because the concord is a much larger aircraft and was probably traveling faster.

It's not the speed of the aircraft, it's the size. It's definitely louder for larger aircraft...that's why the ban for the thousands of commercial aircraft that cross the country every day. Can you imagine that many loud sonic booms...every day? It wouldn't be practical. I heard lots of sonic booms when I was a kid before they were banned. F-100's, B-58's. They rattle the windows. I loved it then but I'm sure I would be annoyed as an adult.

...you mean the Concorde SST. I think you're right. There are other technically civilian aircraft that can go super-sonic but the only commercial aircraft I can think of would have been the Concorde Super-Sonic Transport.

Only reason they can is cause Edwards AFB is in the middle of the desert. So when a plane does break the sound barrier there there is very minimal damage.
