I have heard both and although your 801D's are nice they are not in the same league with the DD66000's. Like comparing the 801D's to the speakers that came with your computer. Yes they are that much better, dream that some day you can afford them.
Speaker sound like a speaker. Are you in politics ?
I had a chance to listen to them only once. They are rare and expencive...but they sound as 0.01% of their price.Like american cars...big massive, full of cosmetics and huge engine. But in the corner...no corner :-)
@thenoti1 I never heard the DD66000 speakers. But owning the 801D I havent seen any vid in utube of the everest which could impress more than my speakers. Sometimes I think these Everest are soft in bass even having 2 15" woofers.
Not a single piece of NAD audio in sight what a shame. NAD in my view would show alot of that stuff what real audio is. Ive got 2x NAD 2200's running in monoblock and musically they are superb. I would class them as almost vintage now although they were well ahead of their time!! I use them for gigs also as they make most pa equip sound shoddy and limp in comparison. He has some beautiful stuff but alot of it im afraid is all bark no bite and NAD were one of the best hifi brands of their time.
@23chilled I feel the same about my vintage mid 80's Harman Kardon system. I'm running four mono-block Harman Kardon hk775's with my system. They're impeccable to me.
@TwinMillMC had a look at them those hk's look nice. I dont really need to run 2 Nad 2200's as one is more than powerful enough but its the amount of precision you get my hooking up 2 in monoblock. People think im nuts with the audio obsession but i love it. Whilst they are listening to nasty stuff i get what the artist intended me to hear haha thats the whole game
@23chilled Thanks, I love the HK line especially the champagne color stuff from the 80's. I once read the 80's Harman Kardon & NAD line were both in the "upper-end" range of "mid-fi" equipment at that time, made JVC, Sony, Onkyo, etc. sound stupid in comparison & retailed for more than twice the price. I actually have 16 of the hk775's (my obsession lol), the 4 u c in the vid r the only ones I restored so far. Hey, post a vid of ur NAD system, we'd luv 2 c it!
@TwinMillMC not a bad obsession as im trying to buy more Nad 2200's but they are rare nowadays. I would build a monster setup if i had a pile of them. There are some vids with the Nad setup but going todo more once i sort out a better camera and mic to record as the vids are done with my phone.
@23chilled My mistake, I saw your videos after I posted my comment... very nice system from what can be seen. I see you prefer the smaller speaker systems with a 5" or 6.5" woofer? I have a nice pair of Tannoy's with a ported 6.5" woofer. They sound nice with very concise tight bass. But sometimes I just feel the need to rattle my walls... lol, that why I use the 15" & 10" ported speaker systems with my HK amps.
@TwinMillMC actually the b&w have the 8" woofers one is a bass radiator at the bottom of the speaker, rear ported and hq internal bracing and damping. They were nice speakers when lauched all them years back haha only thing is the stupid grey surrounds around the speakers are tacky nasty it was more an after thought but still dont matter when you close your eyes and lap in the purity and warmth they master. Bass is not massive but deep. Wouldnt mind a pair of the 800 bowers (the big big ones)
he should have invited the interviewer another time later as the Everest just unpacked probably didnt sound very good... those big woofers need at least 2 weeks b4 running in.
I don't know who is that collector and I am not writing this words for him specifically. I have two great audiophiles friends. The first one have exchanged their hi-end set up many times in seven years. The second friend still have the same set up tube based all that time. The first one is ever unsatisfied. The second is satisfied. One of them do not trust in his own musical perception anymore. He became a person that needs to somebody who tell him what is good sounding. Who is the happiest?
we don't get to see this Erling person smile too often here, despite a fabulous collection, very handsomely displayed ... nice to see/hear that his "reference" audio for those JBL's is Miles Davis "So What", too
Go to Brooks Berdan in Monrovia, CA and take a look in the back at their "museum". Best collection I have seen personally.
