@guitardude671 It's personal preference... as is which Open tuning you use and which finger you put the bottleneck on. However, IMO, glass sounds much much better on an electric guitar.
I wear the slide on my middle finger too. It allows for more control while still allowing a decent span with the index and ring fingers. Everyone needs to find what works best for them, of course. Great tone here. If you can, check "Rosetta West - Underground" for some good slide guitar blues.
When you go to the 4th chord, I noticed you use the slide on your middle finger. I play with mine on my pinky - which makes playing that your way pretty impossible (for me at least). - Any suggestions?
@inefficient Try the ring finger... If you use a Csus4 chord on open G sliding between 12th, 5th and 3rd, using a basic up-down strumming rythm you get a pretty good sound.
@inefficient With the slide on your pinky, you can play minor, Dim 7th chords etc... "BEHIND" the slide. I thought that I made that up, but apparently some dude named Sonny Landreth has been doing it for years.
what tuning are u in it says "open G" but i've heard there are 2 types..one that is G,B,D,G,B,D or one that is like D, etc..etc..what are you tuned too??
Dude, great video, watched it a year ago, tuned one of my acoustics to open g and let the fun begin, I just bought a Fennder Resonator the other day & I'm really enjoying it. This video was the best one to teach me my basics, Thanks so much!!
very good lesson, I have been looking at a few beginner slide lessons and this has been the best so far, thanks for sharing, will have my slide and guitar out later. 5 stars.
sweet idea where the pinky sticks to the 1st string 5 fret while you run down on what looks like the third string with 1st finger, really sounds old blues..is there any other kind....great vid
very cool. I am "considering" a dobro and dedicating to this style with it. I have three guitars that are kind of dedicated to our church band where we play mostly standard tuning simple stuff.
what king of guitar are you playing? Sounds great. I have an Original Hound dog Dobro (wood body) with fishman pick up im trying to trade for a decent tri cone or a good metal body.
This is great. Thanks a lot. I bought an old 1966 Stella Harmony today for $75.00. The frets are all worn down and it has scuffs and marks all over it (Beutiful). You can tell someone put many, many hours in learning to play on this guitar. The only problem is the action is so high now it's really hard to play. Still has a nice tone, so it's perfect for slide playing. 'course i've barely played slide at all. Your video will really help me get going on it. Much appreciated
Thank you, thank you! Watching this for the second time. I am really grateful for these tips. I hope I will be able to paly as well as you one day. -Greg

Are Glass slides really better then the steel ones? dont they break like really fast?
lockofthedeath 2 years ago
they only break if you drop it...
a lot of people prefer bronze or metal slides for electric though

Thanks mate, i tuned my guitar to open G and finally started enjoying playing with the slide!
