  • It still sounds like he said shitty. I've hard other announcers say shinny, and this is the closest I've heard it sound like shitty.

  • Soon as I heard it, I hit record. Since the announcer was hoping for more Cap power plays, I just figured he had enough. Even if he did say shinny...it's still the funniest thing I've heard in a while.

  • I did too when I first saw it on TV. I even went back on the DVR and listened to it at a loud volume to make sure (still sounded like "shitty"). And he didn't seem flummoxed or embarrassed right after he said it - which made me think (at the time) that he didn't care at all that he just cursed on live TV. I think his accent makes the "N" sound harder than normal American "N"s.

  • I'll admit, I thought it was "shitty", not "shinny". Maybe I was only hearing what I wanted to hear. Video title and description have been edited to reflect this.

    Capitals still lost. LOL.

  • That would explain it. Seemed like a really weird place to say it was "shitty" (which it clearly was not).

  • Shinny (also shinney) is an informal type of hockey played on ice or the street. There are no formal rules or specific positions, and generally, there are no goaltenders. The goal areas at each end may be marked by nets, or simply by objects, such as blocks of snow, stones, etc. Bodychecking and lifting or "roofing/reefing/raising the puck" (shooting the puck or ball so it rises above the ice) are often forbidden because the players are not wearing protective equipment.
