I believe in free markets and free trade, yet I often hear (as in this video) of the evils of neo-liberal trade policies. I understand the IMF has a role in impoverishing developing countries, but to what extent advocating open markets has to do with it, I'm not sure. I'm inclined to believe the imposition of free trade by the IMF is no different from trade deals like NAFTA, which are NOT free trade, but government managed trade (1000 pages of legalese is not necessary to define "free trade").

A year and a half of passing up on a lucrative career in law to independently research and conduct countless hours of grassroots activism and organization for the Ron Paul campaign is a testament to this. I'm just trying to grasp the exact mechanisms the IMF uses and what is going on internally in these developing countries.
