But Americans are not fans of this sort of behavior, they've (and I myself) fought against American actions in Vietnam and Iraq, and some of my colleagues have even had their lives ruined (or have died trying) to end the war in Vietnam. We still are against the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, as we didn't even hit the right target, Saudi Arabia.

    It is not Americans that do this, it is American government.

As the Declaration of Independence states, "That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government"... If the North Korean people stood up today to shake off this facade, they could be free.

  • In Canada and the USA millions of people are starving, working minimum wage 10 dollar an hour minimum wage jobs, barely enough to get by, millions of young girls forced to sell their bodies so they can make it to the next pay check. Its either food or rent, or rent vs internet and power bills/food are allways getting more expensive.In Canada we can talk bad about our leaders, but if we tried to do anything we would get the same punishment they do in NK. Lots of stuff our leaders ignore lol.

When I watch this I see a society which is quite stable and supportive while being slightly too limiting of individuality & independent though and being technologically and materially behind the more prosperous nations on earth, but certainly ahead of a lot of other nations. I mean even now they have a higher life expectancy than Russia. In the late 80s they were in many regards ahead of South Korea.

But there are many connections to feudal Korean monarchy and Confucianism which is part of their culture also - I think it's hard, especially for non-Koreans, to decide what's acceptable there.

    And yeah, they're tight with China. I'm not certain but I think just as many Chinese died in the Korean war as Koreans did.

    Yes, I've been in a "large city" lately, I happen to live in one, and yes, there is crime and unemployment, but children don't starve to death in the streets and people aren't shot for reading foreign newspapers...you say NK is "productive" but practically all economic production has ceased, factories have been closed down all over the country and the scrap metal sold for food. and still people are starving.

  • Despite their material deprivation, they are happier people than most. Their lives are planned out and the state provides the means to live it. The don't live in fear of foreclosure or crime. They love Dear Leader. They don't suffer the anxiety of being vulnerable to a globalist ruling class that undermines them at every turn. Kim Jong Il may micromanage their lives but, he doesn't betray them.
