cassie vericel had some really, really good tumbling but she definitely is a product of the robotic, non-artistic class of gymnasts who can't dance to save their lives (shawn johnson, i'm looking at you)

Oh poor Shawn flanked by two frowning ladies on that podium! Not sure why Vericel couldn't crack a smile, but Alicia Sacramone... she should know enough to know that even if she was disappointed, showing it like that would come off as terrible sportsmanship. Very uncool.

I think Alicia really acted like a little baby here.. No matter how disappointed you are, you must be adult enough to at least congratulate your teammate.. Everybody's always congratulating and being happy for each other.. I'm sure Shawn would've congratulated her if she would've won.. She wouldn't be so mean..

Shame Alicia couldn't hide her feelings a little more. Poor Shawn actually looks uncomfortable ... picking up on all those negative vibes no doubt.

Stupid judges! Anton Fokin had a fabulous routine. There weren't any mistakes. He should've won the gold.

I do agree that Fokin's routine was awesome. But there were errors, and I ended up with roughly the same in deductions that the judges had (9.5 / 10):

Belle - flexed feet in salto = 0.1

Morisue - flexed feet in salto = 0.1

Front 1 1/4 to support - slightly bent legs when cutting back to swing = 0.1

Double front dismount - leg separation in salto = 0.1; flexed feet in salto = 0.1

Total: 0.5

His double front dismount is insanely high, though.

But everyone loved his routine and in Beijing 2008 it was a totally different story in the event finals. There, he got his first Olympic medal, the bronze medal on the parallel bars event. I like his routines too.

Oh, I completely agree - he kicked butt in Beijing on PB.

And this routine was great too. I just don't think he should have gotten the gold (as he didn't).

I look forward to seeing him up in event finals more often though.

Well, he didn't got the gold medal because it was due to the Chinese supremacy that ruled in Beijing 2008 because the Chinese gymnasts were the ones who took most of the medals and there were also other foreign gymnasts who won their country's first medals as he did. But personally, he seems to be becoming a favorite. And I hope that in this upcoming 2009 world championships he wins the gold medal in PB. He deserves it.

Wow. I really can't believe Alicia didn't get gold.

Along with that, I thought she would've at least made it to the Olympic event finals for floor. How crazy. She's pro no matter what happens.

at the Olympics in Beijing there were already 2 Americans in the floor final, Shawn and Nastia, and 2 is the maximum number of athletes a country is allowed to have qualified in an individual final, so even if Alicia had been in the first eight, she wouldn't have been allowed to enter the floor final. Still I don't remember if she was in the case or simply didn't get in the first eight. Sorry

I can understand where she's coming from, though. I mean, she wanted that gold medal sooo bad and to be so close...I probably would have reacted the same way.

@chricz949 i think we can all understand being incredibly disappointed and teary, but snubbing her own teammate and making her feel bad about being better than her is not fair play. that's not the sort of attitude you come to expect from a world class athlete.

Shawn Johnson is the only American gymnast that doesn't behave like a brat.. maybe having a Chinese gymnast helps.. the Chinese are very gracious in defeat.
