It is a shame that abuse amongst males is still largely ignored. They make all kinds of documentaries about women and there problems, yet this is the only thing I have seen about an abusive father towards his sons. Males are more likely to be abused then women, but it is seldomly reported or taken seriously in males, and women wonder why we keep our feelings to outselves, sometimes it takes seeing the ugliness to prove a point, while I know it is a movie, I am sure it wasn't all made up.
I tend to agree with 'the some' .. that crap from Murry would be enough to drive anyone to the wall .. thank god that Brian managed to pull thru his personal hell. A great pity that poor Dennis wasn't able to beat his demons ...

Some of the party atmosphere was faked, but any real fan would know that there were other session musicians present for the recording of Party. Even the rehearsals were more of a party than this. The point is, this movie sucks in every way imaginable.

I think this is the VH1 version there was another version done by NBC or CBS Im not sure thats alot better, it showed Dennis Wilson torching his corvette on the Beach..Epic
Barbra Ann was actually written in one take with mistakes and overdubbed with party sound effects at the Beach Boys Party! and Murry wasn't even there when they recorded Barbra Ann. Dean Torrence from Jan and Dean sang on Barbra Ann. Jan Berry didn't.
As flawed as this movie may be, if the Beach Boys weren't a real band, this would be a cinematic masterpiece. An account of a fictional band instrumental in establishing the surf rock scene...yes.
This is awful. Not only does this movie get the facts wrong but the casting is terrible. The Beach Boys were in their late teens early twenties when their success hit. These guys look like they're in their mid-30's.

I wish that they could have made the boys look more like themselves. Mike and Al are the only ones who look somewhat like them. I want Brian to at least look slightly like Brian! Sheesh! But its still pretty cool. Except Murray makes me really mad!!!! Grr! lol.

ABC-TV first broadcast it in two parts on February 27 & 28, 2000. It's been broadcast a few times since then, but very rarely. Kevin Dunn played Murry Wilson and Fred Weller played Brian. I was lucky to get a copy of it from Ebay, but it's very hard to find.

Arlen Dean Snyder did a fantastic job of playing Murry. In some parts he actually creeps me out. hahaha
It's somewhat funny comparing his performance with Kevin Dunn's in the 2000 miniseries about the band.
