  • how is it you can start that with a drill? does the drill wind a spring or something along those lines?

  • The drill motor is spinning the flywheel of a hand crank inertia starter. The gear reduction is pretty amazing, and the starter is not even close to being "spooled up" as it normally would be. Thus the crankshaft is turning quite slow during start up.

  • that is amazing! very cool setup!!! i have wondered how they started.

  • take a look at this vid on youtube, search for; " Waco CSO inertia starter engine test run" it shows the hand crank inertia starter in action. Way Cool !!!

  • wow that was really neat! hope they didnt have to get that engine started in a hurry lol!
