The first M47 have had dual driver (radioman and driver), and there were modifications of external fuel drums. In the museum Baumholder/Germany is an M47 in same outfit.
@hoover1945 mis-type on my post...400 M-47s, not M-46s were retrofitted. M-26-46-47 and on had the radios in the turret bustle and operated by the TC. The bow gunner had only one job....fire the bow mg and dismount for security when the tank was in position.
@pattoncommander That is incorrect. The M-47 was never designed with dual controls. I worked with M-46 and 47s from 1955-1958 and know them very well. Late 1950s, when the Army went to a 4 man crew, 400 M-46s were retrofitted with the driver in the bow gunners position and the former driver's hatch was fitted with 90mm ammo tubes. M-47 bow gunner was never a radio operator, Last US tank with a bow gunner-radio man was the early M-4 Sherman. Some countries added external gas tanks,.not USA.
hehehehehe look! "King Tiger" tank from Battle of the Bulge!

Nice running M-47, but is this a modification? M-47s did not have dual driver controls like the M-46 and never used an external fuel tank. ?????
