Most Underrated NES Games

I don't see how these are 'underrated' Batman is one of the most acclaimed games on the system. Then on top of that you had several other well known games (clu clu land for instance was in every NES mag of the day) Ducktales, really? I don't see how that qualifies as underrated either, many people claim that this, and rescue rangers were some examples of capcoms absolute best work on any system to date. These arent really underrated. Nice music though I do like the castlevania remix.

Good choice of music imo. Also, one game on my underrated list is The Guardian Legend. For those who haven't played it: If you like Legend of Zelda and/or shoot em' up games I recommend it.

I'm glad to see lots of people mentioning Clash at Demonhead. Probably one of my favorite underrated NES game ever. Aside from that, what about Faxanadu, Astynax, Blaster Master, Destiny of an Emperor, Dragon Power, River City Ransom, Fist of the North Star......

How about Sweet Home or Radia Senki? Genius games they basically created genres that didn't exist for a few more years. Journey to Silius and Crystalis are also great.

And I agree with the comments, DuckTales wasn't underrated, everyone knew about it lol. Capcom dominated NES platformers. Little Nemo, Darkwing Duck, Chip and Dale, Little Mermaid, all licensed games that Capcom turned into GOLD.

Honestly I think Zelda II is probably the most underrated NES game. Most people refuse to accept how good it is cause of it's difference. But there are others like StarTropics, Maniac Mansion, River City Ransom, Willow, etc.

I say Willow is underrated, one has to take note of the incredible graphics.

Fire & Ice, a most clever logic game; also Kickle Cubicle.

Die Hard, a very unique and playable action game.

Metal Storm, an inventive shooter, miles better than Contra.

Lone Ranger, a genre mix with Western setting.

Legacy of the Wizard, tasking beyond all else, great!

Maybe rather oft-forgotten.

As for games depicted as worse than they are:

Bugs Bunny's Crazy Castle, 8 Eyes, Robin Hood, Castlequest, Hydlide.

Batman,Ducktales and Bionic Commando are not underrated at all, Batman is well known for the soundtrack and being a game based on a movie that is actually a good game, Ducktales for the soundtrack and being as good as the cartoon that is based on, and Bionic Commando for its unique gameplay, as a matter of fact is one of the best NES games of all time.

I totally agree with Clash at Demonhead, it should have made this list, and I think Legacy of the wizard should be higher up, I use to collect games, had japaneese, repo's, pal versions, and I still think LotW is one of the best. Also Simon's quest get's a bad rep, but I still consider it underrated, it's a good game, same with friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm street, they don't follow the story so ppl hate'em, but it you watch all the movies they don't follow each other either.

I first got Duck Tales for the NES back in 1989 or so, and I've been playing it ever since. One of my Top 10 NES games for sure, and something everyone who loves old school platformers should check out. There's also Duck Tales 2 which is quite good, as well.

river city ransom wasn't underrated, most of my friends who had nes's had that game and loved it..so it's no unpopular among ppl who owned the system imo. But ya, spyvsspy and baseball stars had no place on your list I believe. The prior was just a shit game to begin with, and the latter was a better graphics unit of rbi baseball I, which is the best baseball game for the nes, bar none.

I don't know if I can call most of them underrated. Mainly because they had great sales at the time *Bionic Commando was a sleeper hit for example* Spy vs Spy, I hate to say, I prefered the Sega Master system version a bit better. Baseball Stars, who DIDN'T play that game!? :) Batman was hugely popular when it came out, thanks to Sunsoft's reputation back then for having great games, and also due to the movie. Good list though. :)

I can't agree with Legacy of the wizard. That game was broken from the start. Good soundtrack by Yuzo Koshiro though (Dragon slayer IV this was orginally, Try Dragon slayer II...alot better game). The rest of the games you showed are serverly underrated and I hope nintendo gives them a chance on the wii VC.
