There is certainly truth in this: it is very much common that fandom just gets in the way and makes a biased opinion about certain media or characters. Even the original media is guilty of the same deal but gets away with it simply because it has more money. I confess though: I do have an Absol "original" for a fanfic, but I didn't make him all exaggeratedly "emo" as displayed. Establishing something "original" is relative to people but you just need to be careful with those Mary Sue traits...
