@legitfreek Kaka is an actor and he has done his role well in wafaa and wafaa doesn't prove a drawback. Just say it is a turning point. I don't like to see him like the way he is in wafaa but still I believe he has done a justice to his character as a good actor should always do! Anyway he is the one and only superstar in Indian cinema. Cinema should have taken more from him but unfortunately he was voluntarily being sticked to commercial films!

Even Rafi doesnt rate that song as anything to write home about. On the contrary, "dil aaj shayar hai gam aaj" of "Gambler" was planned for Rafi but KK sang at Dev Anand's insistence. Now dont say Dev Sahaab too was anti-Rafi! "Yeh jo mohabbat hai" from "Kati Patang" was also originally meant for Rafi, till Shakti Samant gave that too to KK. 70s belonged to KK

Read the interview of the Director of the movie where KK was the hero and Rafi sang 2 songs for the hero. Read it. You would know why this happened. Other songs had been recorded, two were left. Thrice recordings had been cancelled due to clash with KK's shooting dates. He was also a leading actor till mid 60s dont forget! To avoid delay, Rafi sang then.

Mr Londoniran, My facts are completely in place. Your's need to be correct! Talking of facts - "Do Raaste" was released AFTER Aradhana. The composer of "Do Raaste" was LP (a diehard Rafi fella), not RD. Yet, whom did LP choose to sing the BEST song of "Do Raaste" ("Mere Naseeb mein ae dost")?? It was Kishore. Other songs in this movie may have been sung by Rafi, but this number was the ultimate. And L used KK. Because by now KK voice was better than Rafi, and he was a full time playback singer.

Dear Londoniran,space wasnt enough to complete my point! I am a fan of both Kaka & Amitabh. I love KK, BUT also enjoy good songs of Rafi (Guru Dutt era) and Mukesh. Being one icon's fan doesnt mean we run down everyone else. This unfortunate trend i have seen in all Rafi fans, i dont know why? I never said RK didnt act in any film before Aradhana. Akhiri Khat & Baharon sank without a trace. Aradhana was his first BIG BREAK. Baharon was RD. Film bombed. RD suggested KK to his father for Aradhana.

This was on account of wanting to ensure that her legacy would remain with that of her sister. I am no great fan of Lata, hence wont comment. I agree with you that Lata has always been hyped too much. I prefer Asha because she has terrific versitality. She sounds seductive in "Caravan" ( Monica..song) and amazing in "Umrao Jaan" with her ghazal gayaaki. I am a music lover first & foremost. I feel the same joy listening to Rafi singing "Tumne mujhe dekha" in "Teesri Manzil" as i do when i hear KK sing "Kehna hai Kehna hai" in "Padosan". All our male singers were gr8 in "different periods".

kora kagaz tha ye man - was his first superhit. Rafi obviously sang greatest & best songs but this song became the biggest hit those days. Song just got the lift all over India. I don't think there was a conspiracy at all. As the recording equipments changed from valves to solid state, Kishore's voice adjusted to the new technology very well. Rafi was definately a better singer when it came to singing capabilities.
