  • @MrBushLife its was such an awesome challenging hike....ty

  • @sousaville I can't imagine. But once when I was a kid, the NDN elders out West B.C. canada, had me barefoot, shimmy up a mountain face, 200ft high. I was one big cry baby , when I got to the top , safe, with a few scares, and cuts..but alive..lol

Once again , bud, Congrats to you and your partner. :-)) your adding to your DNA..

  • @MrBushLife yeah...my mitochondria are getting a workout,lol.

  • @sousaville LOL :-))

  • That's up there! A very late Merry Christmas to you and Becky.

  • @MiWilderness better late than never ,lol....conditions were very slow.....11 hours for something that normally takes...... @7.5 hrs in winter.....it was an awesome day though..with beautiful views.we may do it every xmas eve.......may be a new tradition.

  • thank you very much,it was fantastic....but ..ahhh....yeah alittle hardcore,lol...peeked at your site....nice hiking out that way...beautiful.

  • Congrats, what a great hike. Very hard core. Happy Holidays and looking forward to seeing more adventures...

  • Great video, wonderful view´s up there! Good job. Happy Day, Sepp

  • @Waldhandwerk you arent kidding..it was glorious....wish there was more snow..but it wasnt bad,lol...i will be back up in that area in a few weeks....i like your channel Sepp...safe trails.

  • awesome! a few technical questions before I embark on my own hike - what is your boot/footwear system and what is your glove/liner system for this hike? Happy New Year!

  • @aklags the boots were the Scarpa Infero boot with one pair of EMS mountaineering socks..but you could use a heavy leather backpacking boot....the traction device was a sabretooth crampon and true crampon will do......the gloves were the OR alti mitt.....with fleece forearm warmers from ems.....i also had a light weight OR polarstretch glove i use at bottom of mountain.Good luck.

  • @sousaville cool, thanks. yeah i think a plastic boot is overkill for me. I want something more general use because I never go completely vertical, just peak and hit ridges sometimes.

Also, what was your jacket combo? You wore that down parka the whole way or was there an additional shell layer? I don't have a down parka that intense...

  • @aklags i had on under armor cold compression top and bottom underwear and a soft shell mountain hiking pant....on top salomon running zip as a mid layer..then rab down sweater...(but a soft shell winter layer will work)....then another layer of down thats put on near the top and EMS helix shell if needed.........if done it in less expensive stuff over the years.....basically cold compression underwear and a good shell....then three thin layers.if needed....

  • @sousaville thanks that's helpful.

  • @aklags your welcome dude

  • How were the conditions on Falling Waters? I might try to go up on Wed. Thanks for any info.

  • @SixtyAteOutdoors falling waters was not totally snow covered....soft snow....microspikes should be good....rocks still poking through all over....slow going...will be much better with more snow and colder...so snow isnt slushy....but that was on xmas eve....

  • Big Moose Mtn. which was previously known as Big Squaw, is in my back yard. Steep trail but available escape route down unused ski trails. A favorite is Little Moose Mtn. and the ridge loop. Great views and a couple good campsites available for an overnight. Check maine trail finder dot com and BPM. I could tag along with my own tent, a Wild Country Sololite. PM me if you are serious. Several ways I can assist. Alternative destinations too. bk

  • @bekay3subs ...i definitely will pm you on that...we have to work out our schedules and get in touch...thank you.and happy new year...

  • @bekay3subs you wont believe this but went hunting in greenville about 15 years ago with a group of guys from work.....and they took me to big and little squaw mts....i still have the maps .lol.didnt know there were hiing trails there...HAPPY NEW YEAR

  • Great trip report and cudos to both of you. Here in Maine it was a rather nice day! I thought that viewers would enjoy this from Backpacker Magazine dot com. It shows the topo and some pictures from the "other season." Search for old bridle loop and it comes right up at the top of the list.

  • @bekay3subs ..thanks very much ..went to check it out...very cool...i keep forgetting to visit their site...and i get their publication, lol.may head up to Maine in January..any ideas for a winter hike?

  • I am not a winter person, but I've set a goal to do John Muir Trail in 3-years. I'll have some training and conditioning trips to get ready.

  • @borderraven thats awesome...im thinking of the AT myself ...but need a few more years before i can get the time off work...so i know what you mean....visited your sight...really good stuff over there...ill be popping over later tonight to check out more...very cool.

  • That was some intence hiking there. You had me hanging on the edge of my seat the whole time. I gotta say I would have been one of the folks turning back. I might have never left the car. Winter hikes always make me a little nervous. I gotta give you and poison becky props for completing the hike. Have a great new year.

  • You were right man, THAT IS AN AWESOME PLACE!!!!!! Great video man.

  • @ReeperzOutdoors man...i wish you would come up ...that whole area is awesome hiking with big views.....

  • Would have been beautiful if uploaded in 1080p.

  • @solobackpacking ...im thinking of getting a better camera or micro camcorder...dont know much about them....any recommendations.......and do you think the difference would be very noticeable?the one i use is the canon Power Shot SD1200 is,digital elph

  • @sousaville

I recommend a camcorder over a pocket camera (pin hole cameras).

Sony makes small 1080p camcorders with good low light sensitivity.

Best of all Sony makes huge batteries that are easily changeable.

Those sport cameras that attach to helmets and such use pin hole lenes and the mic on them are terrible. No matter which camera/camcorder, I found that a cheap $30 tripod is the best accessory. Avoid the hard drive camcorders in favor of memory card camcorders, smaller, lighter, cheaper

  • @solobackpacking ...hey solo thank you so very much...will be taking your advice and making a sony cam purchase soon.happy new year.

  • @sousaville

Try a wide angle lens attachment. They are fairly cheap and works great for panoramic shots. Also a polarizer (filter lens) helps a lot for outdoor shots when shooting in mid day especially over snow, also cheap.

  • @solobackpacking tank you again ..so those attachments are made for camcorders as well?i tried searching some sony pin hole cams....and kept getting spy cams...and no really recommendation for brand and model......if you do know of one you would buy for yourself that will handle what i do i would appreciate your opinion...and thank you again.

  • @sousaville

I was recommending staying away from pin hole cams.

They lack in low light sense, color and contrast.

On Sony Cams, there are threads for attaching lens.

  • @sousaville

HDR series. Some are compact but lack a shoe for mic attachment.

  • @solobackpacking oh man thank you...i misinterpreted the sentence....awesome then...thank you...Ed

  • insane........but looks fun!!!!

  • @vmperkins soo much fun.....aint gonna lie though...11 hours is no joke...exhilarating none the less...Happy New Year

  • Damn that's beautiful! WISH I had snow here in NY. I was hoping like last year but it's still 40*F up in this bitch LOL. Sick hike!

  • @RaulPerez1 i know what you mean ...we are in little rhody..no snow here either..but travel the 3 hrs to NH as often as we can.big views and big hikes...but little ones also...and big views as well.ttys...nice cooking over there on your channel, lol.we will be over for dinner.

  • @enjoythewildUSA lol...your welcome...you sound like me...i like to push the envelope every once and a while and test my skills, abilities and know how....if you dont use it ..you lose it,lol.

  • That is so cool , allot of work for sure , But well worth it.

  • Nice trip brother! But I did not see you cook up that (Shrimp Mozambique) ha.ha.nice video

  • @MrBackpacker48 lmao...i wish i could have ......but the loop is a little intense to have time to actually cook...i should have brought my Bemco and made bisquits on top....theres always next xmas, lol.

  • Beautiful hike and summits, gorgous weather! I say, "Elevation gained, Elevation earned" - well earned you two, good one!

  • @wawhiker thank you very much...the weather was perfect...more snow and ice would have made the hike much easier and shorter....but the experience was wonderful and Becky did awesome. Her first time in crampons, lol.
