Actually, I don't believe the toaster was ever given a gender in the movie. I may be wrong about this as I haven't seen the movie in years. I think it's just assumed that it's a male. As far as Toaster and Blanket being gay, that's just ridiculous. The blanket was depicted as a child, and the Toaster was simply acting as a big brother to him since the other appliances picked on the blanket a lot.
