My god...I've seen a lot of drum solo here and there, but this is probably the sickest!I get shivers down by back every time I hear it!Thanks Brian,thanks...
i can't stop watching this video. dude is tooooo funky. but was anybody else dying from laughter at him yelling like a caveman or sum shit all thru his solo lmao
I just simply couldnt stand still watching this and freaking together with brian, i saw him live in amsterdam with dave binney, and it was a serious religous expierence.
Hey Brian! What it do man.. This Is a shout from your hometown friends, Michael and Sereca Henderson... Lookin' forward to you coming home soon for a session!!
Brian Blade is bad for the environment because he encourages other drummers to burn their drums, which releases toxins into the atmosphere....He's totally bringing a melodic beatdown on the drums....His skills hurt so nicely....The man's a genius!! Music oozes from his pores!
As soon as I heard this, I ran down to the basement and got on my kit to beautifully and perfectly reproduce this solo except it didn't dam well work okay!
i'm pretty sure it just stays in 4/4, but the ostinato that redman keeps played is syncopated so that it makes it seems that the beat is in another place then it actually is
Brian Blade is the coldest Jazz drummer I've ever seen,he was also the 1st one I'd ever seen, and none have come close to him since that first show circa 1994. Yep, I said it.
@enochisreal Yea man, he is definitly my favorite drummer of the 90s and 21st century. Everything he does is sooooo dope and prodigical (haha, if that makes sense to you). He is an old school artist living in the new world, that has adapted and reinvented the way of play jazz!!!
@enochisreal Yeah Brian Blade is the man, but saying no one comes close is a little ignorant. Antonio Sanchez is a goddamn monster, and every bit as ground breaking.
@KrummyBear hummmm antonio sanchez is no way as good as blade in my point of view... he's more technical and not much "organic" and he's not groovy for me :) but many ideas and all that stuff for sure... but blade is just an animal.... he's got the body (groove) and the head (ideas).
@enochisreal I like him too. That's why I'm watching this video but alas, you're trippin'. No disrespect at all. Just a little barbershop back and forth.
I am a total sucker for this "sec" type jazz fusion sound, especailly in conjunction with the keyboeards. Does anyone have suggestions for other bands / artists to check out?
George Duke is a good one. Ima bass player mostly so guys like stanley clarke, victor wooten, etc. There is an awesome collaboration CD from a bunch of beastly musicians called Vertu. But if none of that hits the spot what I did was go to iTunes and turn on the genius feature and listen to some of the people they have in the sidebar. Hope that helps some.
try chris potter. his live stuff w/ underground is sick. also look at gratitude (still potter). if keys is what you like, medeski martin and wood are sweet and stanton moore is cool as well less jazzy tho. the bad plus are crazy good, dont just look at their pop song covers, look deeper you will be happy. let me know what you think.
