Over complicated piece of junk in my opinion , I would prefer the silver fox blade or I like the Chris Caine parang , I am currently using a John Nowill British Army survival Knife got it from Heinnie Haynes for 40 quid carbon steel , 7 inch blade , built like a tank , also have a 4 inch o1 neck knife scandi grind made by Mick wardell , would like that silver fox knife though !
In my opinion, my Tramontina does everything that blade does and it does it much more efficiently. Tramontina = £9.99 and the finish is of a much better standard. The sheath is the best feature of the Habilis, which could be reproduced for pretty much any blade. Wouldn't waste my money on this. Sorry if that seems a little harsh, but it's the truth.
when you were trying to sharpen the stick. try to incorporate some of the techniques from the Tom brown tracker , its not the same, but it looks like it has a decent weight forward design which in theory should handle similar
When I'm writing this the 28th of June. It's ur birthday so happy birthday. Maybe u r becoming a fussy old codger. Lol. No I've held this knife before and I agree about the handle width and length. U need a good purchase for doing craft work. Slippage in the bush with a knife could be very bad indeed. Ask Arizona bushman. Surprised u didn't get the whole set of tools they offer. Way to keep it real.
I appreciate your honestly Sean! I know its difficult because you probably dont want to offend the maker on what they probably perceive as a winning design, and when you point out things you find that miss the mark, its actually helping them to make an ultimately better product, you know? Just by looking at it, I can imagine that the hump in the handle only favors one grip and I think they would be better suited like you say with a thicker handle with no swells to suit all hands and grips.
Thanks for a good and honest review. I just got my Bush Tool and I am getting used to it. I agree that a thicker handle and a true Choil would be nice to have and that some of it has to do with adapting new techniques with the use of a new tool.. I also cut my finger with it. I grew up using smaller knifes and I am having some issues getting used to this new knife. I am overall very pleased with it and hope to work through this change over period. I have found that wearing gloves has helped.
The pommel on a knife is for hitting upon not hitting with. Or so says Ethan Becker. The first time you pound a stick for a tent peg with the pommel and you get stabbed with splinters you will know what I mean.
For a knife of that blade height, I agree the handle needs to be bigger to make it in more in proportion.
@ Sean , great , waiting with bated breath , there will be one coming across the water to Ireland to the Wicklow hills !

Could wrap the handle in para cord using the two holes top and bottom to secure it.

they need to drop the price of that knife by $100 then they might sell alot better.
They are overpriced.

@MrJmunn
I disagree with dropping the price. I think its a really good knife design and just needs those little tweeks I suggested.

That notch on the spine is more of what I wanted on my knife that you tested. I just should have thought about it more during the making of it.

Also, I believe the front lanyard hole is to make use of the Osborne safety lanyard, which secures the lanyard via the forward lanyard hole.
