In English, "Kickboxing" can be used as a general term to describe knockout stand-up striking styles/sports, including: Muay Thai, Sanda, K-1, Lethwei, Muay Lao, Pradal Serey, Taekwondo, Karate, Savate, American Kickboxing, etc. Therefore, "Muay Thai" would be the specific style of "Kickboxing" that he does.

@UltimateStriking I see, but I still think it's a bit strange. Because kickboxing is one of striking style too. I think it's weird if we say someone does a kickboxing and his specific style is kickboxing, but another one does a kickboxing and his specific style is Muay thai/Judo/Boxing and etc.

@doraradoa1 You are referring to "American Kickboxing" or the sport aspect of that which is called "Full-Contact Kickboxing". The only ones who use the word "Kickboxing" to describe "American Kickboxing" are those that actually practice that style. Non-"American Kickboxers" usually do not use "Kickboxing" to describe "American Kickboxing". They use "Kickboxing" to describe stand up KO sports.
