You know what's weird, I've always thought the normal japanese R sounds pretty much right, whereas when they try to force it it begins to sound like an L. I don't know about you but if I were a teacher there I'd just tell them to use the normal japanese R and not try to fiddle around. Just a thought. I might be wrong.
