it kills me how much i want the MTron plugin but i dont have 130 pounds to spend on software it's so expensive but worth every penny, and i cant wait till i have every penny
Its software that runs on your PC or Mac. You need a keyboard with a MIDI OUT port, a MIDI/USB cable and a soundcard with a MIDI IN port. The soundcard should be a high quality low latency soundcard. This prevents delays in response time between your k/b and the s/w producing the sound.
one thing i would really like too is a mini moog! i love watching those mid 70s rick/yes shows with him playing them with all of the little knobs and buttons--looks and sounds beautiful and theyve reissued them now - im mainly a guitarist myself but it never hurts to try everything
As a piece of software, there's really not much to get wrong.
There is, on the other hand, absolutely no substitute for the sounds. I mean, you could probably download a few samples and set up a rig with any simple wave sampler, but here it's all done and you have access to every sound ever played from a mellotron and then some. I don't regret buying it at all.
cool to see Wakeman humorously relating the pros and cons of the original machine, doing the "Heart Of The Sunrise" intro. seems like a funny and cool guy. and of course, talented.
Such talent

I have the M-Tron software....it really does sound like the real Mellotron...exactly like it.
Use stereo sound effects to get a huge choir sound. You won't be disappointed.

i'm considering getting that software, is it worth the money? how are the sounds on it? (especially strings :D)

I dont think you will find anything closer to reproducing the sounds of the mellotron than this software. It's definitely worth the money IMO.

I heard Rick Wakeman use to have two mellotrons wich he put on fire. He loved the sound but not the bad construction.

The screen is mounted on that stand in the factory, that is a run-of-the-mill 30" apple cinema display hd

how does that presenter have that screen mounted to that stand??? thats really cool...

I like how he talks about how he wished he still had his Mellotron. "Might have helped in my divorce."
I own the M-Tron plugin -- I recommend it highly to anyone that likes Mellotron sounds.
