Is this a recurring event? Seems the men watching were waiting for the show and are not surprised nor afraid, just enjoying the awesome phenomenon. The sound is deafening too!
@Khamomil Yes, it is a recurring event for the last many years, and i assume it is because of global warming. I come from that area and was present there on that occasion. That area is surrounded by huge snow capped mountains and glaciers, fasting melting. The number of mudslides, avalanches and many other calamities has increased manifolds in recent years. Not very far from this place, a big mountain collapsed and blocked Hunza River for some six months and formed a 24 km long lake,
@riazbaigbaltit Thanks. I've been following the development of the Attabad landslide since the beginning thanks to a few local residents who posted videos and Pamir Times and the Landslide blog of Mr. Tetley. I have viewed the area on Google Earth, seen many historic footage on Hunza in the early 20th C. It was a fascinating place and culture. I am very fond of remote places in general.
Where are the women? Oh, I forgot - they're shut away inside while the men get to go out and about and see exciting things like this debris flow. I wouldn't want to be a woman there, no way. It must suck for them to live in such a sexist part of the world. Good old fashioned misogyny is alive and sanctioned by religion.
It's not a water flow, it's a debris flow - rock and soil, that's all.
@Wabsy99 Forget for a minute the obvious problems of a society in which woman are not respected; this video does not seem to be relevant to that at all. There seems to be a much more relevant commentary to be made here. Men are fools. (And I say that as one)
Maybe one reason woman tend to live longer than men the world round is that woman tend to have the good sense to avoid hanging out to gawk and film dangerous events in progress where as men have somewhat less regard for life and limb
@Wabsy99 By definition, a debris flow is a mixture of debris and water. There is clearly water present for the duration of the video. Soil alone cannot carry boulders of that size down such a gentle gradient.
@Wabsy99 For your information the condition of women folks in this part of Pakistan is lot better than many other places as the women here are not forced to cover their faces. The literacy rate and other human development indices are lot better than some even east European countries. If you want to know more about more this place, please google "Hunza Valley". Moreover, this destruction phenomenon is very common now in our part of the world because of global warming,
@Wabsy99 And i am equally sure that who is the culprit for this global warming. I have a strong belief in the phenomenon of global warming as I have seen tremendous catastrophes in our part of the world in my life that were never heard of before. Not every far from this place a huge mountain collapsed and blocked a big river (Hunza River) and formed a 24 kilometer long lake (now Attaabad Lake). Who is responsible for this catastrophe?? I do know that the overall conditions for women is not
@Wabsy99 I do know that the overall conditions for women are not exemplary here in Pakistan but still it is lot better than so many other countries. Why do you forget that Pak is the only Muslim country which twice elected a female as its prime minister. Do you have any such example in USA?? Or in most EU countries?? The above place (Hunza Valley) has the lowest crime rate anywhere in the world. No murders or robberies or any other crimes is reported for the last many years.

@Wabsy99 Anyone can go out in the middle of night (regardless of your gender) and roam around without any fear. Can you do so in Paris or NY??
