  • 0:23 Reckless driving on the part of Tony Danza.

  • The theme song's not that bad. Wish it could've been more jazzy. I prefer legendary jazz pianist Johnny Costa to tell you the truth. James rocks, but that's just in a disco sense. Why could'nt there have been outstanding jazz music on TAXI? Johnny Costa's jazz music was the kind you'd expect Marilu Henner to dance or show off her legs to.

  • how bout sit ou boo, sit.. good dog!

  • The music. The cast. The CAST! The closing logo. Brilliance all around.

Reminds me of bedtime as a child in the weeee early years of the 1980s when they ran this syndicated after the news...that end music and Goodnight Mr. Walters meant it was time for bed!

  • there is NO such thing as a outro anymore :( they now promote the next show

  • @lucky44124 Or they promote the next show DURING the current show--how are you supposed to enjoy the show with all that distracting crap at the bottom?

  • Love Bob James' Taxi theme and the outro. It just had a feeling of reflection and moodiness that set the stage for the Taxi driver. Loved the whole jazzy feel of that theme song and I agree with what one person said of how you won't see comedy shows like this one any more. Sad to say good writing and a strong cast are things people don't have the time, nor the money, to put together.

  • rip jeff conaway

  • Comment removed

  • Andy Kaufman R.I.P.

  • @Immortal1000 our hearts to jeff conaway.

  • I remember Cheers, Growing Pains, The Cosby Show, Taxi, and Family Matters use to be the show in the early 70s-early 90s. now TV shows today sucks!!

  • I always thought that was danny devito doing that "gurrrr. . ." at the end.

  • There's another of this outro, but it uses the paramount 2000 logo with the blue mountain fanfare...

  • I grew up with shows like this. The stuff they put on TV these days is crap, especially anything with a reality TV format. I'm pretty sure that in a 30 minute show there is only 5 minutes of actual content. 15 minutes is spent on commercials, and 10 minutes is spent recapping everything that happened before the commercial breaks.

I find it really insulting to the intelligence of the TV watching public.

  • goodnight Mr. Walters. (grumpy grunting). LOL. That ending logo gets me when Taxi goes off. It's cute and funny.

  • goodnight mr. walters.....ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • Old school is the best...T.V. will never be the same.

  • One of the most relaxing ending credits ever made.

  • you just don't get show tunes like this anymore, never knew how much I miss being a kid

  • @lonewatchman I agree, but it is just that, is it evoking the childhood memories in us? Taxi/ rockford/cheers I can hear them and I see my folks younger and me as a kid still, they were more innocent time mind and I miss them, you had to be more creative then IMO, I will be watching cheers reruns till the day I die. PEACE

  • Souls of mischief sampled that last part...

  • TV is crap now which is why I no longer have cable. I watch classics here or buy on dvd.

  • "Good night, Mr. Walters."

    "Ugghhh...."

He's had a long day and just wants to go home. That must be why he's so grumpy.

  • one of the best sitcoms ever

  • you know you just can't help but replay this over and over and just let your mind wander back to a time when things were different, cheaper and just a little bit more simple. i remember this song vividly and how when i was younger it meant my Mom was on her way home from work because it ended at 4 and she got off at 3:30. back when 7am-3:30 pm was commonplace. excellent post. just so many good memories.

  • @justtony21 Same here, although I remember it when it was late night! I think it came on Tuesday at 9:00 or 9:30 and it was past my bed time, I used to lay in bed and hear this song, I was about 4 or 5 at the time.

  • Christopher LLoyd was great in this show

  • tv today os so bad now. I think the networks should bring back thease shows from the 70`s and 80`s and air them on a weekly basis and the shows shoulld be on the network`s they were originally on.

  • One of the best shows ever. Who didn't have a crush on Henner?

  • that you for helping me sleep at night Mr Walters!

  • @ "Slime" -- Absolutely. I second that. ;-)

  • and as soon as Mr.Walter moans and groans, that's when he gets surprised by THE BIG BLUE PARAMOUNT that pops up right in front of him and it literally scares the shit out him as joke! hahaha!!! lmao!

  • i *LOOOVED* Andy Kaufman when he was on the Show he said "Sank you very much" OMFG I Lol'd every time I heard that on TV

  • Goodnight Mr. Walters !

    Urrrrghhh

  • when friends and frasier ended so did tv.

  • you are very correct, TV is basically unwatchable now

  • jfunk513 you are so right it's scary, TV of the late 70s,80s, and 90s was so good, reality tv nowadays? who the hell knows people like that in real life, and the sitcoms, I don't know if they're actually supposed to be funny. 3 channels back in 1985 was all you needed.

  • @quadleaf95 Maybe 4 if you watched Nova on public TV, or in my case the Eastenders.

  • Good Night Mr. Walters and him mmmm!

  • How come so many of these older shows seem more innocent and fresh than anything we have today?

The glory days of sitcoms are long gone. It enjoyed quite a lengthy success, starting with the popularity of I Love Lucy and ending it with the season finales of Frasier and Friends. Now, I don't know what they are doing with sitcoms, or just television in general.

The TV set was once a symbol of innocence and entertainment. Now it's all about how good your HD picture looks.

  • Krato, some of us producers remember. I'm 41 and my company in New York City is bringing this kind of show back to the air -- not reruns of old shows but *new shows made to these exact standards.* The art is not lost, nor is the innocence. It's a battle but we're winning it. Do a little research and you'll know who I am and who we are. We're doing it. For real.

  • I agree, I think these days they are more concerned about picture and production quality rather than entertainment. Now it seems television is littered with all of these so called "reality shows" that is far from reality. And its funny when I was younger we had more on the 3 or 4 channels we had than we do now with over 200 channels, its pretty sad.

  • @KratostheThird If you're putting "Friends" in the same category as "I Love Lucy," then anything you have to say is irrelevant.

  • @Zwei4815

Friends is where I draw the line. Seinfeld, the Simpsons, and a couple others I can't mention now were very good. Now the Simpsons has become bland and stale, a shell of it's former self. That's what happens when you try to have a show extend to 20 or so years.

The problem is, in the era I grew up in (1980s and early 1990s), it was easy to catch older shows like this one as re-runs, because back then the networks cared about their audience. Now it's just crap thrown together.

  • @KratostheThird Yeah, and if a TV show comes on that you like a lot, it gets cancelled after 1 or 2 seasons, like "Legend Of The Seeker."

  • @KratostheThird I couldnt agree more with everything you posted. It all makes me sad.

  • @KratostheThird

Yes, u r certainly on to something.

Sure, I can enjoy 2 1/2 men and other current sitcoms, but in 20 years we will

never remember them. After Seinfeld there has been no sitcom that will be

considered as an evergreen. I mean, Scrubs and such, come on. Those will

leave no trails what so ever in the future.

    Do you ppl agree?

  • @kallianke yes! I agree 100%

  • Cause most of these shows that are on today are based on nuttin but stupidity! Pointless crap that were created and produced by stupid foo's!

  • @KratostheThird I know. Thank God for cable where we can still enjoy these shows.

  • @KratostheThird The writers were more relaxed maybe. We dwell on tenseness these days, and anxiety. I have been watching fantasy films from the 1980s recently as well. Re-runs like Beast Master, Ladyhawke, and Dragonslayer. They have the same effect.

  • If I'm not mistaken, Christopher Lloyd would later become a regular cast member?

(Trivia..he's the guy who played the unnamed villain Switchblade Sam in Dennis the Menace-the Movie.)

  • OMG I remebred watching Taxi on Nick at Nite. I Miss the Old Nick at Nite.

  • Yes! Old Nick At Nite was the best when they used to show classic shows like "Taxi", "Bewitched", "I Love Lucy", and more. Now they hardly show anything good. TV Land isn't much better either.

  • Try looking it up on wikipedia. I said the thing about Jeff conaway because the other youtubers were saying something about it.

  • What happened to Jeff Conaway is very tragic.

  • "Good night, Mr. Walters." "mmmmm" and the paramount logo goes boom duh duh duh duh duh dehdehdeh!

  • whaht happen to jeff conway is tragic

  • When I was a kid, this closer meant a lot to me. I would watch and wonder if all television producers were grumpy and grumbled "Mm-mmm" at the end of the day. I grew up to become one and now realize, yep, we are, and yep, we do

2nd best TV sitcom ending ever imho. No. 1: Mary Tyler Moore, 1974

  • What was the episode where Jim builds Elaine a castle out of the steel roof of his van?

  • SEASON 4 coming SEPT 22 2009!!!!!!!

  • This song meant it was bedtime.

  • How true is that!!! I remember trying to stay awake as this was playing in the background.

  • nastolgic isnt it

  • "Good night, Mr. Walters."

    "Gmrrrrrllrm."

  • Best Tv series ever !!! I miss Taxi so much. Long Live Louie DePalma

  • Andy Kaufman! What a genius. Years ahead of his time...

  • smoothest tv theme ever

  • Until that Paramount logo goes BAM! lol

  • 2 conroy1979 wish tv land or nick@ night would put taxi back on to i love that show & everyone who said my comment was good thanks i feel special now lol

  • Goodnight Mr. Walters!Grrmm i love that part

cause id say night mr walters & my dad would go Grrmm lol but i lost him in aug 2007 so its

kinda sad to watch this but i love the show

  • sry to hear about your father my dad's name is walter and we used to do the same thing

  • Good night Mr Walters.

  • Was that really Walters (the producer) at the end?

  • Walters wasn't a real person. That was probably Ed. Weinberger.

  • That WAS Ed. Weinberger, 'Jnelson09Returns', who was "Mr Walters" in the title-named production. Weinberger was also the man who created the production company to produce "Taxi", so there really WAS no man that at least we know named "John Charles Walters".

  • I knew all that. I just wasn't sure if it was indeed Weinberger.

  • I always thought the lady's voice Nardo and and Mr. Walters was Alex Reeger on Taxi when I first saw the show. Glad the logos were not plastered.

  • Oh yeah,I remember that Mr.walters logo at the end,I think it kinda scared me as well as a little kid.

  • G'Night Mr. Walters!

    Hmrmph.

Mr. Walters had to get to his lower-east side prostitute and coke dealer.

  • My favorite end logo ever. GOODNIGHT MISTER WALTERS! "Gurrrherr..."

  • @ekkostar Goodnight Mr. Walters. MMM mmmm.

  • @ekkostar mine too i think

  • This is from the First Season ending credits(1978-79) Because of The Paramount Television Logo with the 1978 Jingle...

  • and it's also S1, b/c the words "In Association With" was underneath the John Charles Walters Production name. But by S2 and beyond, the words "In Association With" was removed from the JCW title logo and was placed on that creepy black screen by itself.

Taxi, was one of many Paramount-produced shows to have a logo feature a creepy IAW (In Association With) screen preceeding Paramount TV's own logo.

  • yeah and the only reason why they showed a creepy IAW (In Association With) screen preceeding Paramount TV's own logo was because they were preparing you for the nightmare for going to sleep afterwards when the show was over...

  • The Paramount music scared the crap out of me. Especially after "Goodnight Mr. Walters!" "Grrrrmmmm..."

  • same here! i coudln't turn the tv off fast enuff!

  • Scared the shit out of me too.

  • HOLY SHIT! that could give a guy a heartattack.

  • Good night, Mr. Walters! HMgM...

  • Good Night Mr Walters

  • *grumbles*

  • nobodys driving the cab. always wondered about that

  • i love that taxi part in 0:14-0:26

  • bizzy bone sampled this on this song called sit back relax on alpha and omega album in 04

  • I wish tv land would bring taxi back on

  • I wish tv land would do alot of things like dumping Andy Griffith from it's roster for one and start airing more classic and rare television shows from the 80's roster.Whoever owns TV Land should be shot point blank with a rifle!

  • They're too busy putting on original reality tv programs. Like we need anymore of that. I'm 19 years old, and even though I wasn't around for the original airings, I still grew up with these shows. My mother always watched this The Odd Couple, Mary Tyler Moore, Rockford Files, and many many more. So I'm very familiar with these.

  • I agree.

  • dont forget cheers

  • hey hey hey lay off ANDY

  • alright ill lay off andy ...lol... but Tv Land could at least throw on more programs from the 80's.

  • I want Tony to be my taxi driver.

  • Por Mr Walters always looked like he was knackered! Mike S.

  • Doesn't Christopher Lloyd look young here?

    'Goodnight Mr Walters' - 'Uhh-Uhh'

A kind person on the Viacom logo videos pointed me this way - I couldn't remember which show it was on - I had Mork and Mindy. I don't know what it was, but there was an era of good solid US TV imports that are remembered affectionately on this side of the pond.

  • Your Welcome, thanks for the Kind compliment.PreviewSubscription formerly OpenArmsRoxxAgain.

  • does anyone know what marilu Henner is up to these days?

  • Marilu Henner writing books about diet and nutrition. I saw her speak a few years ago at a Tampa bookstore; still a beautiful lady and very sweet

  • good nite mr walters!

  • When Taxi ran on ABC from 1978-1982 and then the show moved to NBC untill 1983 after it's 5 year run!

  • I love this, always have. Whenever I leave my office late at night I imagine someone saying 'Goodnight Mr. Walters' and going 'mumble mumble'. Yeah, I need a life. Anyway, classic TV music and visuals. Great stuff.

  • What...does...a...yellow...light...mean?

  • Slow down!

  • "Goodnight Mr. Walters!"

As classic as "Sit Ubu sit."

  • good dog

    Woof!

  • I heard that Andy Kaufman was pretty out there.

  • I heard the same about PeeWee Herman.

  • Well yeah. He masterbated in an adult movie theater.

  • Was this posted from a DVD? Reason why I ask is because the PARAMOUNT logo looks so distinct and sounds so crisp on this post as compared to the other Paramount logos I've viewed on here so if you don't want you're pants scared off of your ass tonight then I strongly suggest DO NOT VIEW THIS OUTRO!!!

  • man this brings back memories of night with pjs on about to go to bed. you knew when you heard that theme music and good night mr walters uh uh! it was time

  • yeah i know what you mean...It was time for Big Blue that's what it was time for!

  • Omg! when i was about 4 or 5 I can remember some shows would end with that lady saying " Goodnight Mr Walters " ....I had no idea what it ment,as a kid it was surreal lol....thx for posting this !!

  • And that music from the show is amazing btw....

  • In my opinion, the best sitcoms within my lifetime: Odd Couple, M.A.S.H., Happy Days (sentimental reasons), Taxi, Cheers, Seinfeld and now The Office.

  • Makes me feel like I have to go to bed now. That was my lullaby for a few years (even with the trumpeting Paramount diddy at the end).

  • I have always loved the song...even though it has a melencholy feel to me. Love ya Bob James

  • what always tripped me out as a kid was there is no one driving the cab!

  • I know, isn't that creepy?

  • Tony Danza is driving the cab.

  • in the opening credits?

  • Yes, and in the closing, too.

  • That Tony, what a cut up!

    RIP Taxi (NBC, ABC)

  • A cut-up? What do you mean a cut-up?

  • A cut-up is slang for someone who is funny.

  • Never heard that before.

  • I guess I'm old like that, LOL :)

  • Well, it depends. If you're in your 40s or 50s, then you're not considered old anymore these days. 25-30 years ago, you would've been, but not today.

  • and BAAAM!!!! The BLUE KILLER PSYCHOTIC PARAMOUNT MOUNTAIN CRASHES OUT OF NO WHERE after a friendly goodnight to Mr.Walters.Just enough to give you nightmares for the rest of the damn week.WOW!What a great scare nice post up.

  • the similar thing with pre-1987 family ties episodes.

  • The closing credits here are from the episode "Paper Marriage" where Latka has to get married to avoid being deported.

  • And the very first appearance of Rev. Jim Ignatowski. :-)

  • The character development in this sitcom was brilliant!

  • I guess Mr. Walters groans because he's had a really long, hard day and just wants to go home.

  • The end credits date from a first season episode (1978-1979).

  • I miss Taxi, I wish it came back!

  • Amen! I love the show Taxi. It will always be a symbol of what GREAT television shows used to be. It's unfortunate that a show of such quailty will never again be equaled. Television, like so many things in todays society have become so bad i long for the good old days.

  • I totally agree.

  • "Goodnight Mr. Walters." "Grrr..." Sometimes I actually want to try saying that to my boss. He probly wouldn't get it though.
