No big band sounded like the Kenton band 52-54 edition! Rosolino, Childer himself, Burgess, Russo, Stan Levy, Konitz, Bob Gioga, ....What a great players all of them...This composition belongs to the wonderful LP "Stan Kenton plays Bill Holman music" I think.

I still consider Stan one the greatest big band leaders..

Buddy was probably in his early to mid 70's when this clip was made. He was hired at the age of 16 (a junior in HS) as lead trumpet on the Stan Kenton band and over the course of his career of more than 50 years he became a legendary big band lead player, studio musician, jazz player and arranger. Buddy passed away a couple of years ago and I miss him very much. He was a fellow Bahá'í, a loyal friend and a beautiful soul. ~R Lewis

every time i listen to west coast stuff i'm taken aback by how little (if at all) it swings.

Great band.The flugal horn player has a average sound and sounds like hes not filling up the horn.
