Closing the track is a bit of a knee jerk reaction, however while I'm not laying the blame at anyones door this was purely an accident. Maybe IRL could have looked at postponing the race by a week or so to try and slow the cars down a bit (maybe using road course wings) or do something to split the pack up. Sorry for bringing up the Open wheel war but now I feel that CART did the right thing by cancelling Texas in 2001.

@macks77racing It wasn't the track that was dangerous. The cars. At that speed and it's not fully enclosed like NASCAR cars are. Crash in one of those cars like that and you have more of a chance. In IRL's cars. It's rare that you die but it is easier. RIP Dan Wheldon. We'll all miss you.

Our thoughts are with his beautiful wife and children. We were there when Dan won Rookie of the Year in 2003, and when he won both Indy 500 races. He was a credit to his profession and a friend to many. Rest in peace, Dan.
