He's finger-synching it! That is, he's not playing the guitar we're hearing. The timing is off throughout (especially toward the beginning) and the last measure or two has a second guitar playing. Dave even kind of rolls his eyes when he hears it. Still, a lovely song. Thanks for sharing!
@Mmmyess There's just very obviously a second guitarist in the background... behind Kenny to the right... that's why it doesn't seem to sync up; there are actually two guitars, on stage, being played.
@SMoore472 It's not that it doesn't "seem to sync up." The volume of the pickup in Chesney's guitar is OFF. I'm not even criticizing the guy...I understand that the show's producers need to minimize their risk. But make no mistake...we're not hearing even one note from his guitar, guaranteed.
l absolutely love the song, but Dave made it so much better:)
if it wasn't for him it wouldn't be as powerful-dave is a very emotional singer and its even better LIVE :D who the heck are the two people that "disliked" this video? >:( lol
i think simon cowell would've called kenny a bit 'pitchy' and have his arms tucked up under his armpits like molly shannon, but as a songwriter it must be a great honor to have the voice of dave matthews expressing the simple theme of a very positive and reassuring song...
Dave definitely opens up doors. I went to 10,000 lakes festival in MN (located at the same place as We Fest), and this originally claimed "hippie" fest brought so many other niches together with DMB on the bill... Amazing show too! - Highlight of the fest: DMB playing first half of Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven into first half of Jimi Hendrix's All Along The Watch Tower; back to second half of Stairway, then to second half of All Along the Watch Tower... Amazing... DMB!!!
I'm a big Kenny fan! love him and his music so much!! BUT I think Dave's voice is LEAPS above Kenny's. They voices came together lovely but Dave's on another level vocally!! Both make great music that heals and soothes the soul...just have different ways of doing it. They both inspire me.
enjoy it for what it is and be thankful for what you are and what you have, stop arguing and judging and just listen close your eyes and listen. because your alive and well be thankful for that and just embrace one another and things like this ..
Isn't it crazy the effect Dave has on music? Seriously, I know a ton of Dave Matthews fans wouldn't listen to country music... Especially if this was just Kenny throughout the whole song. No disrespect to Kenny, but Dave just opens people up to another side of music. No matter what he sings on, he makes it good. A+ for both artists in this song.
this song would be sick if kenny played with the band and if dave was playing guitar and standing up he along with all performers sing better while standing up
I am listening right along with you! This is a GREAT song. Love Kenny and Dave together. I've heard it a few times on the radio and never paid attention until I saw them do it on the CMAs. NOW I AM HOOKED!!
I like that song, wish they did more of a duet, more than, "it's my turn to sing, now it's your turn to sing". I'm a hardcore DMB fan, and feel kinda bad for Kenny that the crowd went apeshit when Dave came onstage.
I too am hardcore DMB! I wouldn't feel sorry for Kenny though... he does quite well for himself. Chalk the "apeshit" crowd up to the excitement of never expecting to see DAVE! at the CMAs. All in all, they both excel at what it is they do.
Just goes to show, some people know a good musician when they see one... Country, Dave (as he and his band are a category of their own)... Music = Music. Art = Art...
Its not about the money. These two men are talented without doubt. With all our country has been through over the last few years... they sweetly reminded us that ... we keep going... to make a difference
Well, first off I'm sorry you feel that way. Secondly, I can point out many points in kenny's part where he was OBVIOUSLY laboring to hit some notes. You must be a big country music fan who has never heard of dave matthews, and has never had any musical training.
My dad who is a big country fan, and a moderate fan of kenny chesney, told me that the only thing that kept him from changing the channel was the antipation of dave matthews saving that song, which he did!
He probably didnt have his guitar because this song requires a capo and dave refuses to use a capo in concert just like any real man should. good shit dave never disapoints
Yea they went nuts, rightfully so. It was really weird Dave not havin' his guitar. He just looked....naked. He's such an awkward guy, his guitar gives him something to do. You could tell, he just looked uncomfortable. Awesome though, I love it.
Abc probably messed up the audio to video set up
