didnt george harrison and bob geldof already try to fix this? you cannot support a huge amount of people in areas that cannot grow food, some have to die otherwise the planet gets overpopulated and we all starve. Its not nice its nature.
There are limited resources on this planet this includes arable land for food production. Is anyone prepared to go hungry or give up their familys spot on the planet for a family in another country? Survival is success and no one is going to put their and their decendents survival behind someone elses. Look what happens when land is no longer able to be grown in an area and people move to another peoples area to survive, war because those there first dont want them there taking their resources.
Unfortunately this project really does means well but lacks any substance to raise real awareness. Most of the people interviewed in this video are representative of the target market of typical student poverty campaigners and as such prone to illusions about goodwill being the silver bullet to alleviating poverty. There's a lot more to it than just good will and aid money, there is a need to understand that transcends what everyday people make of the controversial issues faced in development.
We'd completely agree - which is why we've spent the last year working with a group of advisers from around the world in order to communicate these.
This vox pop is just that - a vox pop, to see what everyday people in a University town think about these issues.
Come along to a presentation in Australia from July onwards to see us discuss the challenges and opportunties of ending extreme poverty, and what we can do about it.
The legitimacy of your comment would have been enhanced if you'd taken the time to find out what this project actually is. Based on my understanding it's about much more than good will and aid, but rather about helping people to understand what global poverty actually is and what they can do to be a part of the solution.
To me, the global poverty project means a bunch of well-meaning but unfortunately uneducated idiots trying to save populations in areas that can't sustain them resultuing in Malthusian population checks such as we are seeing today in the parts of Africa where Bob Geldof so successfully saved 10's of 1000's 2 decades ago.
dont even bother talking about migrant importation is bad...if you true australians knew what populate or perish did to this country im sure you would be thanking alot of migrants for saving this country...am i right?
You should change the title of your video to 'what does the global poverty PROJECT mean to you' cos when I first started watching it, I thought you were interviewing a whole bunch of people that didn't know what global poverty meant.
It could mean freeing and preserving my country. I am an Australian. Australia is mostly desert yet certain idiots feel we can continue to put a strain on our water reserves but continuing to bring in migrants without something bad happening. Australia is drying up. We are in drought. Making Australians poor is not the answer. Improving the lot of people living in already poverished countries and building up those countries is.
In Melbourne the last dam that was built was in the 70s. Since then the population has increased by over a million. The rain has been falling but our cities infrastructure has not been built to cope. Yes most of Australia is dessert however not along the east and south eastern coast lines.
Actually VAMPIRE, Australia is one of the most water conservative countries in the world - the government initiatives conservation of water through educating children about saving water, water saving devices, restrictions etc.
Australia has quite a low density of people in comparison with countries around the world. Although the influx of migrants is managed, the carrying capacity is much higher. We've only got 20 mill people, some cities have 20 mill and they are one of the most livable cities in the world, but also in a 3rd world county (Curitiba).
A tiny fraction of our income, can provide enough food, shelter, clothing (basic needs) to survive. Why should we live a life so privileged when billions of people are trying to survive one more day on this planet. We as humans should help out the underprivileged, a tiny amount can go a long way.

Global poverty - the result of government intervention in the market. The State needs to take a hike and GTFO.
