  • love the breakdown at 4:45 on the clip

  • inspiring, free, makes me want to join in w/ my drum!!

  • Very very good

  • Africa ... i love ya ..

  • This speaks to the full-range of the human soul. Powerful, black, african women - I have never been so impressed and humbled. Riddims well and truly in the pocket - that goes without saying. Woman coming into view at 2:40 is incredible...just ashame about the philistine tourists poking money at them and ruining the flow.

  • @GLOKD Someone once told me that putting money on the drummer's clothing was actually a compliment. It is like saying, "I like your sound". So according to that person's knowledge of African culture that is a positive thing, not necessarily an insult.

  • POWER TO THE DRUMMERS OF AFRICA

  • Fuck yeah!

  • Africa is the linck chain to all unmanity

  • ASE TO ESU / SANGO

  • insanely good

  • power too this woman, love it xxx

  • i read a comment about women not even being allowed to play djembe...

even in ancient african history traditions have been changed

    this is beautiful.

  • @rantazz23 There does seem to be a rising tide of feminism in Africa, making itself most noticeable in music. I would say that the ladies are on the cutting edge of that. More power to them.

  • THE POWER OF WOMEN FELT THROUGH THE *DRUMS*!!!!! #Amazing <3

  • Namas

    --o0o--

  • Beautiful!!! it's something about a womans touch!!! you can just feeeeeel it!!! and her presence alone is so POWERFUL!! To all my SI-STARS around Mother Earth Peace,Love&Light!!! Your SI-STAR Ma'at Het Heru

  • I love it ♥

  • Amazing talents! It is cute to see these women play the drums. That was nice music.

  • genial

  • The woman at 5:57 is an exceptionally good drummer and very strong -- watch her body language.

  • I am curious at to what is going on when those two people, a woman and a man, comes out periodically and touches the drummers... It happens so fast I can't tell what it is that they are doing. Anyone know??

  • I take that back... its two women and not a man.. anyway, yeah, what are they doing?

  • @Woeism3 In Mandinka (mandingo) society , when one is impressed by a djembefola's(drummer), style and skills , you motivate him by giving him whatever present you have (cola, water, food , or money). The two guys came and pinned money on the drummer's costum!

Thats how they do it in many west african mandinka society , especially during the weddings , or new born naming ceremony!!!Hope i helped you!!!!PEACE

  • @WitnessTheDevine Awesome, thats pretty cool. Did definitely help! Thanks. :-)

  • The best I have ever heard in my life .. God bless...

  • BEAUTIFUL LADIES

  • tears came out my eyes hearing this

  • my baby girl love this sound and thank u for the upload

  • I can't believe is not butter, sit down and travel far minute 4:42 is when you know music don't exist is African sounds what travels round the world

  • @santisimos butter? The soft yellow substance that is placed usually upon toast?

  • @khetnhio well I've just read back my coment and to be honest I'm not sure what I tryed to say, I quite often something that noneone or even me can make sense so big big apologies, but I think that I'm taking reference from an advert in the UK of a margarine that it is so delicious that it taste like butter without it being butter,so it is really good, and the other par I'm saying something like I love djembe and when I listen to music I can hear various repetitions and variations from these

  • @santisimos your probably refering the shea butter which what africans use to moisterize our skin

drummers sometimes use it on their palms before they play to help burnish the drum skin.

  • I can't believe is not butter

  • Wen es da noch auf den Sitzen hält ist selbst schuld.

    Wundervoll :o)

  • great rythm , great women , great culture , i love africa

  • AMAZING LADIES

  • Wow! Splendid! Regular rebels. Men discourage them from playing the drums- but theise are great players.

There's an American Black woman , Ubaka Hill- that plays the djembe. She's a strong player-also plays other drums.

  • DIVINO

  • veramente brave!!!

  • Dear Hervinbalfour, thank you for your comments. Believe me, I claim no deep knowledge of African music, instruments, or the cultural history behind their varied forms. I just happened upon that specific video while surfing music videos on youtube one evening and was impressed by the female drummers (not knowing the cultural traditions connected to the Djembe drums). Again thanks for spreading your knowledge.

  • You also dont see sistah's in West Africa playing Djembe. That's something you only see here and it's disrespectful to the culture. It's not just about people wanting to play. The invisible world which is summoned everytime you play a djembe is far more powerful than imagined. Women aren't even supposed to go near a djembe during their menstral cycle let alone play one.

  • @Hervinbalfour I understand your point, but if you look at classical music, you see the same gender division in the Middle and Dark Ages. It was disrespectful for a woman to sing in church because that was too sacred. I recommend you watch Mamady Keita's fourth DVD, you'll see that his Californian wife is soloing with him and if you watch the extras, he took some French women to Guinea to play a rhythm pyramid, so I know at least some Malinke can accept women djembefola.

  • Whenever I think about African drummers I always thought it was male drummers. I have now been enlightened and educated. These women drummers are fantastic!!

  • @Bwari1 Trust and believe that in Mali, Guinea and Senegal WOMEN PLAYING A DJEMBE IS TABOO!!!

The diety that lives inside the djembe is a FEMALE SPIRIT and SHE DOES NOT like women. Period! And I got that from one the last master drummers here in America who is from the people who created the Djembe Abdoulaye Diakite of Mali.

  • I liked this video becuase the beat is awesome and so am I

  • Epoustouflant! Bravo bravo.

  • amazing;)

  • I have hope now since seeing the sistahs playing djembe to this magnitude. it was my understanding that djembe playing and mastering was for the men. However, to be a good afrikan dancer you should be able to play the rhythms to.

    Peace Sisah of the mother!

  • i like the sound

  • fantastic amazing brilliant power toplayers of the djembe

  • @birryd i know wright

  • :):):):)

  • j'adore ! super énergie, vive les femmes !!

  • It seems to me these days that there is far, far more racism in Africa than there is in North America. Skin color does NOT matter, it's soul and vibrance and energy that matters and anyone who can judge an entire being based on color is ignorant.

These women are AMAZING, I've never seen anything like it! I love it :)

  • @summerraen

Nah, there is definitely more racism in North America.

  • Guinean power aka Konate power

  • I was trying to cout how many drummers are their the clip was to dark to tell ?

  • These women are great, I hope to plat this well one day.

  • I am a white woman .

i play Djembe with an African dance and music group .

  • YOUR MELANIN DOES N.O.T. QUALIFY Y.O.U. TO PLAY WITH S.O.U.L.!~''jamadun''...

  • BUT I DO PLAY !!!!

AND WE ARE VERY WELL KNOWN ,

    I HAVE SOUL ,, I"M SICILIAN !

    We are professionals .

WHO MADE YOU GODESS AND QUEEN TO ?? for life ?

    WHOW - thats arrogant .

WHO MADE YOU A GOODESS TO JUDGE ????

  • @GoddessQueen4life My Sister, I love you :D

    LOL.

    One,

    - Brother Chimaobi

  • @GoddessQueen4life This is one of the most arrogant and insecure statements I have ever heard. Does your skin pigment preclude you from using, enjoying and mastering the technology employed to post your comment? After all, by your illogic, since your ancestry did not invent it, you should not be eligible to use it. You have got to be f***ing kidding me.

  • @mingus243 MY ANCESTRY INVENTED A.L.L. THAT I.S.!!!! END OF REPLY.....:)

  • @GoddessQueen4life so if I were to use your logic, black people aren't qualified to play classical music? I guess you should only play music that matches your skin color, because we're bigots like that.

  • @rabidmonkey4262 My Afrikan/Black People Are The Creators Of Classical Music, and also...if the Shoe FITS WHERE IT!...end of reply.

  • @TheBlackWombmanIsGod yeah I guess you're right, Africans created Gregorian chant. I must of forgot all of my music history. Thanks for reminding me that it was those African monasteries in the middle of central Europe in 10th century. I always thought that classical music evolved from Christian church music, but silly me. I guess my 20 years of playing classical piano and my music degree didn't teach me anything.

  • @rabidmonkey4262 ASOLUTELY!.....NOT A D.A.M.N. THING!

  • @GoddessQueen4life i guess all those dumbass ethnomusicology doctorates must be wrong too. I'll go tell them that the all-knowing youtube person says Africans invented classical music. I'm sure they'll change all the books.

  • africa en las venas !!!!

  • AMAAAZING!!! she broke it down from 2:46 - 3:03 !!

  • Africa, the creators of the percussion , Great video ...

  • They are 5 ladies!

It´s an example of female power!

  • Magnifique...tellement rare !

  • Such a beautiful and powerful vision! My son was in utero when I took a drumming class, so he began hearing and feeling rhythm from the very beginning. Since about five months of age, he "dances" whenever he hears music of any type, but he seems to especially like West African music. Thanks for posting this inspiring video!

  • Wonderful to see young women playing djembe, very talented, and about time the world sees that women can play as well as men, and the old tradition of preventing African women from playing drums is the old world. No one should be restricted from playing music or having equal rights, wherever they are!

  • These women are powerful and talented. the first organ to develop in the fetus is the ear at that point the unborn child can hear its MOTHERS heart beat. Thus the beginnig of life is rhythm. We are rhythm. The beat of the heart, the sway of the hips, the waves of the sea, the whistle of the wind, the breath of life the kiss on the cheek, the caress of a lover, and I leave the rest to your imagination.I am a Female drummer and proud of it! So for the person with the rude profanity.......

  • @unnafleur that's a very poetic way to put it! I don't think I've ever heard a more organic description of music.

  • i love u

  • i love u , and agree with ur comment , the drums are similar the the heart beats thats why we feel relaxation hearing the drums beats

  • i love u , and agree with ur comment , the drums are similar the the heart beats thats why we feel relaxation hearing the drums beats, i am really facinated with african drums and african culture

  • Female drummers are SO sexy.. and this is a whole room full! I'm sure women find ensembles of male drummers sexy too, I'm just the other part of the equation. So talented a group!

  • wow wow wow, in india we call this a dhamaal, like a spiritual exercise where u reach god through the drum. u need no skill, it is as if some spirit is talking through the rhythm. im adding this to my Drumming playlist. if people want to hear a good collection of percussion, check out my playlist. its mostly indian, african and caribbean.

  • Thank you for posting such amazing talent. This is unbelievable!!

  • I just want to dance; which in fact I do here in my living room right now. Thank you :)

  • I agree...I cant keep still lol

  • i cant tell you how many times i watched this video and was amazed each time.you dont need alot of strength to play rapid fire djembe just continuous practice and playing develops the right muscles needed to play these fast rythms i also hardens your hands to where your fingers become like sticks

  • True dat! Although I don't believe that it's necessary to develop lots of callouses - good technique should (ideally) help to prevent this. (I know there are people who will disagree, but I honestly think there is more than one way to approach this...)

  • These women are amazing. I think this is the first time that I've ever seen African women play the Djembe and it's so beautifully powerful. Thank you for sharing this video.

  • Some people are easily amused.

  • Seku Ture, Kwame Nkrumah, Miriam Makebe, and all the sons and daughters of Africa and the African diaspora thank you for your wonderful contribution to African culture and its Realities.
