  • Whoooah, you very nearly became a statistic there mate ! Blimey.

Looking behing would have helped you identify an asshole was approaching FAST.

Dont be a corpse mate - theres idiots out there !

  • @M4OON Hey, yeah this scared me. I did a life safer early on, I knew he was there but wrongly assumed he'd drive safely! My bad.

  • Holy crap, I think that's the worst close pass I've ever seen on Youtube, real maniacal stuff. Some of the comments here are depressingly predictable, have another look at what nearly happens there and engage your brains before posting. Hint: lorries come equipped with a brake pedal

  • you dont pay road tax so shut the fuck up ya tit

  • @transitcoffin Hi, nor do you, we pay Vehicle Exise Duty in the UK on our cars and motorbikes. Paying VED does not allow somebody to drive dangerously. But thanks for the comment.

  • keep on truckin !

  • Being a Cyclist myself i think cyclists with CCTV get themselves into a false sense of security, i would remove that tube like object off your cycle helmet and place on the handlebars instead then you may not get targeted, also as a car driver aswell, being cut up, tooted at Ect is all part of it and not worth getting yourself all worked up!

  • I think your "cloaking device" is stuck in the on position.

  • If your coming up behind that audi and you know you will need to pull out into live traffic you should of checked over your shoulder, and you would of seen him approach. And if you go to halfords they sell a wide range of mirrors for your bike.

  • @NIGHTSKYE1 I did check over my shoulder (see start of vid), I knew he was there, I wrongly assumed he would drive in accordance with the Highway Code.

  • @jonredhornet He did drive in accordance with the code, although aggressively and far too fast for the circumstances. The obstruction is in your lane, you are obliged to give way.

  • @Teds991 Hi. We were travelling in the same direction, in the same lane, the lorry is overtaking another vehicle (me). It's not a give way situation, it was not safe or appropriate to overtake, so he or she should have held back until it was safe. A cyclist does not stop at a parked car to allow people behind to overtake, that's all back to front and not in accordance with the highway code. Think of it as a car overtaking a motorcycle in terms of legality, there's no difference.

  • @Teds991 Are you totally fuckin THICK. Were you not breastfed at birth or something? Its should be clear even to the dumbest human reject on planet earth, they were travelling in the same direction/lane. Geezz....

  • @Teds991 So your telling us that people in front of you don't have the right of way, oh that makes sense - I'll go and try it and cause an accident whilst I'm at it, thanks for the pro tips!

  • This is why I refuse to ride a bike anymore. Something I use to enjoy. I'm not putting my life at risk from a heavy speeding lump of metal.

  • Points to note: You almost went straight into the side of that Audi at the roundabout!

  • @declanm24 Hi, you mentioned 'points' but you only made one ... anything else? I weigh around 90kg and did not break any law, a HGV can weigh up to 44,000kg and the driver in this video did not drive according to accepted standards and certainly contravened clause 163 of the highway code amongst others. There was no danger of me riding into the side of the Audi, and I'll let you work out why I didn't want to lose momentum there.

  • @jonredhornet The "points to note" was a reference to your description. You didn't want to lose momentum for the same reason that the lorry didn't want to lose any momentum.

  • @declanm24 Yes, I've never driven a HGV but I understand the dynamics of it. I know it's a pain for them to slow, but that does not excuse this dangerous overtake and my point still stands.

When, say, a car overtakes you while you're driving. It is 100% their responsibility to do it safely and in accordance with the highway code. If they performed an explicitly dangerous overtake, a defence of 'I wanted to maintain momentum' is no excuse. Do you see anything wrong with the HGV's driving here?

  • @declanm24 roads are for motor vehicles not for bicycles . next time please go on pavement or ride on public road on own risk. thank you

  • @mzvaleting That's simply incorrect. Cyclists, horse riders and pedestrians have the right to use the public highway which is written in law. I'm normally quite tolerant of comments like this, but frankly your comment is nothing short of ridiculous.

  • @mzvaleting What? I wasn't in the video! Now honestly I'm not the biggest fan of cyclists but riding on the pavement is actually illeagal in the UK.

  • also with the width of the road and zebra crossing and oncoming trafiic parked vehicles etc, maybe the driver had simply not noticed you, which means more mirror checking required on his part ,plenty of good and bad out there so you have a point.

  • To be fair the truck over took you before you even reached the parked car and as a cyclist you should have looked behind you before even attempted to move out and overtake the parked car, when i took cycling profficiency course when i was younger we were taughtt always look behind us before going round parked cars so you are to blame as you clearly did not look behind you.which your video proves.

  • @MrJames27011

    Hi,

Well, yes my road craft could have been better here. My position in the road is largely irrelevant, when overtaking a cyclist is obliged to give them as much room as if they were a car (e.g. move to other side of road) .. see illustration for clause 163 in the highway code. The onus of safety is 100% on the vehicle overtaking, whether they're overtaking a motorbike, car, van, cyclist etc. It;s not the responsibility in a legal sense to be overtaken safely.

  • @MrJames27011

... oh, also, I did look behind me about 3.5 seconds before the HGV arrived (see start of vid) .. and I always signal as I was doing here. Also, I was travelling at 18mph in a 30mph limit, the HGV was travelling far in excess of this near a busy shopping centre with a crossing. Inexcusably bad driving.

I don't know whether you're a truck driver but don't take this video personally, most are superb (best drivers on the road I reckon) and most cars are great too.

  • @jonredhornet Yes i am a truck driver, i will concede he was close to you, however 18mph and 30 mph is a lot of difference in terms of speed and distance travelled, to you the lorrry because if its size and noise will give the appearance of excess speed,im not sticking up for the lorry driver, but i heard very little engine noise which meant he had lifted off and was coasting up to the roundabout and i saw no evidence of sharp or heavy braking ias he would have to if speeding up to the roundabout

  • Im a class 1 driver, the container driver is a bellend. I always give at least 6 ft of room no matter what vehicle Im driving. Its amazing how many people think nothing of driving so close to cyclists or overtake them only to stop at a red light within 10ft or turn left!! I've also seen bad riding though, including some pleb in London trying to hitch a lift by holding onto the trailer!!

  • @pimpUK1 Hey, absolutely, there are some terrible cyclists out there. And most HGV drivers are great around cyclists I have to say.

  • W*nker

  • p.s. where was that?

  • @arseholesnoteasy Birmingham near the airport

  • i think you should have been riding more devensively, there are pleantly of w*nkers out there but that dosent mean you should risk your life out of spite.

drive/ride safe all you angry barstewards

  • @arseholesnoteasy Yep, i could have made a better job of this one.

  • On thin roads a cyclist should cycle near the middle of the road (closer to the right) so that the only way a car can take over you is if it goes into the opposite lane.

If that lorry driver had waited 10 seconds then he could of overtaken you safely.

  • @bysh123 I agree, I could have ridden far more defensively there.

  • Why it is ok to ride a bike without proper brakelights and right/left signals in traffic I cant understand. And why would you want to do that, Even if its allowed? If you had used right signal the truckdriver would have known you were about to pass the parker car and slowed down

  • @MIRCWOOD

Hi, I always indicate and brake lights aren't a legal requirement for push bikes. If they were I'd have them, maybe write to your MP about that but it is no fault of mine.

I love cycling, that's why I cycle on the road. I know there are loads of shit cyclists out there (I'm a stickler for the rules though), but if everybody rode / drove according to the rules then we'd all be fine. Look at rule 163 of the Highway Code.

  • Im not upset but maybe the truckdriver you almost made into a murderer and ruined his life would be upset? I dont live in your country and youre probably right on all your points but that doesnt mean its not very dangerous and stupid to ride a bike in traffic.. So it would have been your fault if you died, even if you had the right.( to be stupid)

  • Thats what you get when you ride your darn bike in the street. If you had ben crushed between the car and truck it would be your own fault. You did a stupid thing and got squished. If you had any brain you would learn not to Play in the traffic, but I doubt you learned anything from it

  • @MIRCWOOD

    Hi,

    Boy you sound upset, have you taken this video personally? I'm not having a go at you or lorry drivers in general. A few points;

    1. I did everything correctly and in accordance with the Highway Code and best practice.

    2. I have a right written in law to use the public highway.

    3. It is the responsibility of the truck driver to overtake safely.

If you disagree with any of this, please can I ask that you consult the highway code, it's available on line now in it's entirety.

  • Terrifying driving on such a small road by such a large vehicle with no regard for human life. I really need to know what horn you use though, sounds great!!

  • bloody hell that was close!

  • u damn cyclists think u have road rights! u pay zero road tax, zero insurance trucker is trying to earn his daily crust. He does not need guys like u in his way.

  • @englander1971

    Hi

Road tax was abolished in 1926, we all pay Vehicle Excise Duty on our motorvehicles. I pay it on my car and two motorbikes. It's not a legal requirement to pay it on pushbikes, if it were I would pay it. Maybe write to your MP about this, but it is not a fault of mine.

Paying VED does not give somebody the right to drive dangerously and contrary to the highway code. I can only hope you don't drive if you think otherwise. Thanks for your informed comment.

  • @englander1971 if we all paid tax according to our IQ, you wouln't pay any, cos you don't have one!

  • wow ! nice foden alpha !

  • As an artic driver myself we dont all drive like the idiot in your vid, that sort of behaviour gives us all a bad name. He deserves to have his license shredded for endangering lives like that.

  • @bicster1973 I have a huge respect for artic drivers, the vast majority are superb I think.

  • Fuck me! one second later you would have been jam smeared up the side of that car. A good advert for loads of shoulder checks and claiming the primary early, though I see you were climbing a hill and that never makes it easy

  • Hi mellorscos,

Always nice to receive intelligent, poignant and well reasoned comments, so thank you.

  • @jonredhornet

I enjoy your videos but please set up a corresponding facebook page so we can leave our regards in memoriam: that was fucking close!!

You need a faster shutter speed and HD camera; you've gotta get the plates and DVLA these fuckers via the cops. This is enough.

  • "Gay spandex", and yet you cant take your eyes off it can you ;-D

  • Switching places... "car driver: fucking served you right, lorry drivers think they can hold us cars up all day long in your gay "over night" cabins."

Someone with your kind of attitude does not deserve their licence, and I am sure that most other lorry drivers would never condone your comments.

  • @mellorscos hahahaha! Very funny!

  • @mellorscos If you can't or won't drive safely, like the moron in this clip, you deserve to be held up, for a ban of several years if not life.

Speeding in an HGV in a residential area while threatening peoples lives by dangerous driving as was seen on this video should be an automatic prison sentence, followed by a life ban.

  • what a dick!! it happens to me at times

  • Now that is scary. Glad you're alive, mate.

  • G'damn! had the damm truck passed you 1 sec later you'd be rear ending that car. Had the fooker passed you 2 secs later you'd bouncing like a pinball between lorry and car.... un-fooking-belivable, yet it happened. A huge *whew* to you.

  • Oh yea .. I see you have ... FE51XJA

  • Needs to be reported to the police, if you can identify the registration all the better, he should NOT be on the road.

  • They are more or less over here in Ireland,Lorries up to 3 Tonnes are Allowed on Residential Roads. In Dublin City it is up to 3 Tonne as well but you will come across a few Artics which are going to the Big Stores late in the Evening . They brought in this Law several Years ago.

That is a great Horn,it sounds like a Truck.

  • Dangerous and he was Blowing his Horn at you as if you were in the wrong. What is he doing on a Residential Road anyway,he should be on a Motorway or Dual Carraigeway. Are Artics not Banned from Residential Streets in Britain they should be without special Permits.

This sort of thing Frightens the Guts out of me,you only know about it when they flash past you and Blare their Horns, Scumbag Driver.

  • Hi

Artics aren't banned from residential streets no. Our population is so compact here it would be difficult to do that (houses everywhere). Would make life a lot safer for us all though :)

The horn was from me, I bought an Air Zound 3 the other day. VERY loud, the driver must have heard it.

  • The thing with airsound people play with it and you have to pump it every time you go out. I have one of those rubber things.... it just gets cut up every so often instead by vandals.

  • scared the **** out of me just watching it.. not pleasant.

  • I imagine a bit of swearing went on.. had something like that happen twice and I know it's not pleasant!

  • Fook!!

  • Yikes! what an idiot....would've scared the bejesus out of me

  • Jesus!!!!! What a pr*ck of a "driver". Report this idiot to the police before he kills someone!

  • What a flippin idiot!

  • 'kin hell!! Makes my day seem like a dream compared.

  • Flippin heck that was close!

Dread to think what could of happened.

  • Do it that kind of driving is not on!!!

    spandex

  • WOW bloody hell
