@soloco2 Well, that's the way I roll. I can't change who I am, so your options are to find a channel teaching where the teacher doesn't talk so much, or you just have to put up with my bass centred soliloquays!
@MendozaMichelle100 Um...I don't think I have a particularly big hand span...I'm medium height with fairly small hands! All I did was work on a series of fretting hand patterns that emphasised digital independence and dexterity and worked on them over time. (Over 19 months I think). I started at the 12th fret, and gradually moved the patterns down one fret at a time.
I would like the tabs to this song, all the ones that I have found don't seem to sound right, do you know where I can find them specifically? I would appreciate that, I already have an idea from listening by ear and I've played this song before, I just want to be sure I'm playing the right thing, thanks
@howtoplaybassdotcom these song instruction videos are really helpful especially for those beginning to pick up the bass, however, i have been playing for some time, and i learned scales major, minor, chord forms, etc. but how do incorporate what i learned from these videos into playing the bass? in other words, what do i look for in playing other bassists' bass lines. maybe that is a very technical question, requiring lots of explaining. :(
@moorejr1400 It is a very technical topic - what you're looking for is Chord Tones on the 'strong beats' of the bar - and then look for how bass players connect those chord tones.
@howtoplaybassdotcom your explaination seems helpful. lets say i play a simple progression, common time, but only two chord changes A CHORD 4 beats and D CHORD 4 beats, and the progression continues with these two chords(basically same rhythym and beats). how would i connect these to chords using the 1, 3, 5 chord tones without it sounding like i am taking big jumps between these chords? :(
@moorejr1400 Again this is a massive topic - but look for chord tones of one chord that are adjacent to the next root note. For example when going from A to D (assuming major of some sort?) you have C Sharp which is hte major 3rd of A and works as a chromatic approach note to D.
Or you have E which is the 5th of A, and is a tone above D - so that connects nicely.
Going from D to A - you could use the F sharp (maj 3rd of D) and then make a run to A by using either G or G Sharp.....
@howtoplaybassdotcom ...or you could use A itself (which is the 5th of D) and either use an anticipation or use the octave of A before dropping to the root.
That's a very shallow scratch on the surface of a massive topic.
@howtoplaybassdotcom thank you for your comments. i dont wish to overburden you with my questions :( is it possible that you do song request? if so, there is this simple bass line in the song "How Long" by ACE, i notice in the song, the bass line seem very simple throughout , but just before the lyrics come in ( How long has this been going on...) i noticed the bass line made a subtle change in some notes and i can't seem to hear them correctly. i believe you have BETTER EARS than mine.
Nice job, but u talk to much...

@chilly975 No pick ups - the bass is a 'digital modelling bass' - so it's got some fancy electronics which processes the sound.
