Destroy isn't fail. It's a last resort attack. Mateaus is the only enemy who isn't killed by it.

It sounds like you may have hit him with some of the other Characters before using that spell with one of them. So he would have lost enough so that the last blow 9999 would kill him. Just a thought,

Destroy isn't exactly useless, if you're fighting a tough boss/enemy with less than 9999 HP you can quickly finish him with the spell, as it deals 9999 damage to the enemy the allies and reduces the caster HP to 1, but it can kill the enemy instantly

XVI is the maximum. The only reason the emperor didn't die is because destroy deals a maximum of 9999 and the emperor has 10000. if he just managed to get an attack off he would have won lol

A way around it? Use a mid-level to high-level Osmose on the Dark Emperor, then cast Destroy, so that Counter-Flare stops. Just a thought anyway...

I've never played FFII on the PSP, but let me try to explain this to everyone...

Destroy hits everthing in battle, dealing 9999 damage. There is no Reflect, and I think there is no way to buff you to be immune to the damage (Or even be lessened). The one thing that mystiys me is:

1. How the hell do you get destroy?

2. How the HELL did Firion survive it???

Train like holy hell.

HP above 4k is preferable for your fighters.

Mages should be casting protect and shell when they aren't bombarding him with black magic or healing.

Dual wielding is recommended only if the character has good hp.

but FLARE and ULTIMA the way the spell looks should switched

Ultima looks like a fire move which should be FLARE

and flare looks like ultima from the other games and FFTA and FFT so they should be SWITCHED

i know seriously....the Ultima spell is usually defined as a giant-half orb that is usually coloured green, white or blue, Flare is usually a reddish implosion. I agree with your statement, however FF2 was the first game to use the Ultima spell, the standards were not set yet, there would not be another version til 6, (with the exception of the remake of 4)which looks EXACTLY like Destroy from this version. However Ultima is less common now, being replaced with spells like Scathe or Doomsday...
