  • I was sent here by Swizz Beatz.

  • does anyone know where can i see it for free pleaaase?

  • @matej574 icefilms dot info

  • @matej574 on Hulu.com

  • I loved this movie, and I appreciate the art of Jean-Michele Basquiat, despite some of the hateful, racist comments I've read on various videos about him. What a tragedy that he died so young of a heroin overdose. Also, I think that Jeffrey Wright is one of the most under-rated actors out there, and one of my personal favorites.

  • Oh I forgot Gary Oldman is in this! I'mma have to pull the film back out! ; )

  • they should get kid cudi to play basquiats part

  • @and194xxx9000

Kid Cudi ain't as cool as Basquiat, but

Someone did a really good slideshow of Basquiat to Cudi's Pursuit of Happiness.

  • who knows the first soundtrack?

  • If they make a modern day remake, Kid Cudi should play him The similarities are almost unreal.

  • Why put down the 9 year old who makes shapes.. These are the judgements that destroy art.. Have it approved by the experts.. The experts can never get beyond their own ego, spend your life defending it, that becomes your art, a waste. Draw something, it may last longer.

  • David Bowie and Gary Oldman in the same movie? WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME?!?!!?!?!??!!?!? *goes off to watch this*

  • fuck you

  • I think the degree to which we accept as art that which is not, is a commentary on the state of society, politics, and culture. We accept gangster rap as music, and the sexual perversion of Desperate Houeswives as primetime TV. We call diversity a virtue, though the evidence that it's not is in every headline. We, the west, are nations that have shat upon their culture. As you call Basquiat brilliant, be witness to the death of a society, the end of a people, where right be wrong, & bad be good

  • @Malleus7777 You sound like Hitler when he declared some of the masters to not be art and had it removed. You sound ethnocentric and racist. Rap is music, it is not music for you. Basquiat is art but it not for you. You can not force European standards on the world, it has never worked. You say things that are not true and do not back up what you claim, it is pure rubbish. You clearly have a God-Complex and love to run off about things for attention. You're kind is dying out, thank God.

  • @Malleus7777 You are a silly man.

  • People: I have criticized art for some time. I have looked and looked, but have found no deep artistic talent among any works of Basquiat's. This is hyper modernism run amok, praise worthy only to those idealists who value the political fashionability (poor, black, street) over real art. If you can duplicate a piece in a matter of moments, it is probably not art. This is the worst/best example of the depraved devolution of art.

  • @Malleus7777 so, what is real art? rich, white, suburban. listen, regardless of their race and economic background I have a hard time understanding contemporary artist and their art. but i am open enough to realize that there could be beauty in his art even if i don't see.

  • @trew9710 Any of the classical realists. Any of the classical sculpture artists. Any of the modern realists. That's real art. Anything that you can reproduce in a matter of seconds, hours or even a few days, is not art, in my opinion.

  • @Malleus7777 thanks for answering my question and sharing your opinion

  • @Malleus7777 There is truth in what you say. However, there is also the eternal question that is begged every time someone puts brush to paint. What IS art? To say that something is not art simply because it is not complex, or lacks difficulty is an argument easily lost. Personally, I believe art most worthy of recognition is art that comes from the blood, sweat, and soul, of those who interpret what others cannot. However, it is not up to me to set boundaries by this definition.

  • @kinnerstreet Yes, I've heard this argument, but it's too broad, therefore you cant get away with it. If ANYTHING that causes one to ponder is art, then art is watered down to almost nothing, and the Michelangelos, and Rembrants become no better than the 9 year old who who makes shapes on paper with brown crayons. Reality is that Michelangelo, Rembrant and all the great European sculptors and painters ARE better than the 9 yr old. Basquiat is not much better than the 9 yr old. Big difference.

  • @Malleus7777 Oh, you are a baby, only 33 years old, that explains it. I am an Art History graduate and you are comically wrong! You seem to have that disease, that white-male-I-know-it-all disease, a sense of entitlement to sole ownership of the truth, we have seen your kind before...always entertaining and good for a hoot.

Take some classes, travel the world, get out of your bubble, You sound like some old British stuff shirt pissed about the fall of the British Empire! LOL!

  • @Malleus7777 Kandinsky, Miro, Pollock, Rothko and the Da Da movement, all these abstract artist of European descent. specks of paint, scribble, The Dadaist and their use of everyday objects as art, all white people all considered greats, their work is, in your mind ( hoping you know these artist and their work and contributions) they are "real" artist because they are white but if done by non-whites would not be art...

You live in a small small world.

  • @kimmyrabb Your argument would only make sense if I said "All white artists are great and all black aritists suck." So your argument makes zero sense. Basquiat is fashionably correct and famous b/c he was poor and black, a king savior to the skinny white elite who sought to destroy real art through the anti-art philosophy of dadaism. The result? Complete shit replacing art, just as rap is complete shit replacing music. These are the signs of a filthy corrupt decadent "progressive" society.

  • @Malleus7777 I love number 7.

  • @kimmyrabb AMEN!

  • @kimmyrabb they are NOT - they produced their art through drugs = it is not even an art. For me. Chagall said - "whats in your soul it comes out". Believe that great art comes from focusing on The One. Desn't matter if you are black or white. We are all the same infront of HIM - The One - who is the best Artist of all. He created you and me our small small world and the reality.

  • No T I met him at least 4-5 times and purchased many, mnay works from dar Jean..

    Happy New Year!

    email me!

  • who could dislike this?!

  • "do you consider yourself a painter, or a black painter?"....

"do you consider yourself a writer, or a white writer?"

  • i hope you are waiting for me in the lime light. Look at my videos... make me cool

  • @Rozyonnie I second that. I thought I was the only one who noticed the uncanny resemblance. I've never seen two unrelated people resemble each other SO much. But, Jeffrey Wright's performance is so great in this, well hell, he's great in all of his films, so he'd be hard to top or to even match.

  • maybe you should take a chill pill, Schnabel and Basquiat were friends, he didn't hate him. Schnabel made the film to respect the artist and because you didn't like it doesn't mean you have to go on a little rampage. In terms of his paintings, just because you can't relate doesn't mean it's trash, that's just how art is. Basquiat has his good share of people who hate his work, just all depends on who you are.

  • My favourite artist! Basquiat is a legend! R.I.P Jean!

  • The majority of the movie in general centers around the director Julian Schnabel, in terms of artwork, characters and mannerisms of Basquiat himself. Thumbs up if you believe that this is really the Julian Schnabel story, just with him not in the movie physically.

  • @Rozyonnie thats crazy i've compared to two as well

  • The rapper MOS DEF should have had this role.

  • he was one of the people I was truly envious of..but he was too fragile for this world

  • BASQUIAT HATED JULIAN SCHNABEL !! THIS MOVIE WAS NOT CORRECT AND JULIAN SCHNABEL IS STILL A NO TALENTED FUCK... LETS MAKE A REAL

    JEAN MICHEL BASQUIAT FILM!!

  • @7thvenom no talent? watch "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and tell me no talent.

  • @youngdudesproduction NO Talent as a PAINTER !!! AND HIS MOVIES ARE ARLRIGHT IF UR A MANIC DEPRESSIVE DRAMATIC DRY PERSON !!!!

HE WILL NEVER EVER EVER BE REMEMBERED !!!

JEAN MICHEL BASQUIAT WILL BE A PICASSO IN 100 YEARS

  • Terrible interpretation of the life of a great artist. Hard to believe Julian Schnabel, who directed it was a close friend of Jean Michel. Jeffrey Wright doesn't sound, look or walk like Basquiat. What really buries this movie though is the fact that none of the paintings in the movie are Basquiat's. Gerard Basquiat, who controls the estate, wouldn't allow them to be reproduced for the film.

  • Imma hav to live ma life til i die...Sky`s the Limit

  • Someone please put this movie up, I'm dying to see it!

  • it´s great movie, i love it

  • That fu.kin actor is so annoyingly ugly

The real Basquiat was so beautiful

  • no one could've done it better

    he looks just like basquiat

  • You need to see this movie- it is done SOOOOO well- one of the best ever- Julian Schnabel- cheers and Jeffrey Wright, I am not into award ceremonies but one there should be an award made for overlooked actors! He was simply amazing- I have to watch this every now again.

  • where i can watch this movie online?

  • + qu'un film c'est une oeuvre d'art...Bravo Julian Schnabel !!!

Je vous invite à voir mon travail d'artiste fou !!! "Bad painting"

    O.Malagamba

  • Did Jeffrey Wright win any awards for this performance- he is unbelievable! OH my GOD!!!

  • great post man! i've made a little video on Basquiat, if you can check it out!

  • Jeffrey Wright is one of the most underrated actors in America

  • @mykhailothebanshee I know! He also was amazing in Cadillac records

  • Hi, David Bowie playing the part of Andy Warhol?

    life is complete.

  • not fond of whoever is playing the role of andy warhol -_-

  • David Bowie

  • I have to see this. I look just like him and I am an artist...but I have never heard of this guy... and hey the Psychadelic furs are on the soundtrack! fuck man, i gotta go rent this, NOW!

  • I only have 3 drawings left and 2 small paintings and 1 little African stretched drum skins.. to sell Gemma...please phone me as I have no one who likes them ,but I think they are beautiful...i don't have long ...my illness..

  • who say basquiat dont use the colors very well , are you crazy or what stupid student of art school ,learn to respect the artist and shut up , when you follow what your teacher say dont critic just learn imbecil , basquiat and van gogh two differents generations

  • nigger please! he didnt use shit, all he did was throw shit on canvas!

  • ohh poor ignorant you tuber go learn about art ,where do you think the art cames ahhh maybe you think the art come from england do you know about the human civilisations do you know the origin of the first human in this world ? just for make you feel bad everybody in this worl have an origine from africa so you are also a nigger jejej poor racist !! PANDITHA 666

  • I have been learning about art since before you were born idiot. and no art does not come from africa dipshit, wtf are you on?

and nigger means dumbass warhol was one as well

  • maybe you belongs to this category of ex students that spend ages in the school to learn art for finally never create something ,i know that and i laugh always about the people who think they know more just because of this poor stupid people , art is this what separate us of the animals ,please go and learn something about ethno ..before answer in the name of an artist or before answer bad words because you know that you are not able to answer with a good lexicon glossary etc

  • no i belong in the catagory of artists that work their ass off creating REAL art, in other words academic works.

basquiat was not stupid but he let himself become one. much like whoreall.

also dumbass learn english before speaking.

  • i dont even speak one language correct not by ignorance but for other reasons i think because the people around me speak french german english and spanish that i dont have the problem mixing the 4 ,so is not difficult to be understand with our bad expression but i think for the theme of art you understand good what i said , basquiat and all the mad artist died because of the Loneliness madness etc and i think only the ignorans judge the personal life of an artist and not his quality as ..

  • so in other words you dont speak?

    wtf does that mean?!

and lonliness?! my friend Gidget died of lonlienss this ididot died of idicoy.

    and what quality?~

  • in others words i just speak what the people call art !!

    nice to meet you

meyoko is my artist name and you ?

  • Damian Crowley is my artist name. nice to meet you.

  • Tour de force ,brilliant depiction !!

  • "No one wants to be a part of a generation that ignores another Van Gogh." Great line.

  • yet van gogh could actualy paint REAL stuff unilike this fuck! he had some real talent with color

  • ' paint real stuff'

wow...your just spilling out ignorance on this comment section.

art isn't about painting 'REAL stuff' its about expression.

Basquiat paintings were pure raw and fearless expression

  • art also involves actually crafting work not shitting paint onto canvas like this bitch did.

  • Abstract art takes a lot of craft...you obviously don't know that...because you don't know shit about art

  • no i dont, i just make a living selling art and collecting it

anyone cn shit onto canvas like this fucker did. you fucking nigger

  • wow...wow

i doubt you have the heart or brain to create what basquiat did...there's a reason why he is one of the most important painters of all time and you're...on a computer making ignorant and racial comments....you could say all day that you could do what he did...but you didn't....so just shut the fuck up...you're an idiot.

  • heart or brain?! all i need are two oil sticks and a brush!

the only reason hes famous is because of warhol and the MET owner. could of done what he did?! shit i have! Im an idiot says the person who likes artwork of shit thrown on canvas!

  • Heart and brain...yes....judging by your secular taste for realism i doubt you have the brain capacity to create a work of art that means something...realism is good...but any body that takes the time can do it...abstract art goes much deeper than technique.

  • Damn good Movie...

  • Greatest artist of all time!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

  • His artwork is not very impressive. He is just not a genius. There were other artists who were able to make paintings that required incredible skill, far more talent, and just as much originality as his paintings, but because they weren't tackling big social issues, they weren't ever very famous. I swear to you, if he had made the same style of paintings, but without depicting tormented - looking black people, it wouldn't have been considered so great.

  • what you say is obvious enough, but i don't really see why it matters.

  • It matters because everyone calls him a genius, but I don't believe he really was. I think he was hyped up by Andy Warhol. I don't think he was addressing any issues that hadn't already been addressed many times by others. What was important about what he did? I want to learn why people think he's great. Do you know why? I'm open to learn. I want to know.

  • i look at his worl 20 years later and i dont see the racial element i jut see a continuation of pollocks urban totemism hes way better than pollock only bettered by warhol just

  • FINALLY SOMEONE WHO GETS IT!!

  • SERIOUSLY what you just said was so awesome! its people like basquiat and warhol who made people ignore people like Bougerou, Ryden etc.

  • you're problem is you think of art as if it was a sport, you should ask yourself what's the definition of art .You would have propably said the same thing about Van gogh if u had been living in the 19th century. You 've comented on all of jmBasquiat's videos i dont see the point.Basquiqt is popular so what, get over it

  • popular for all the wrong reasons.

and no van gogh and basquiat are two VERY diffrent people. one knew art the other did not. Van Gogh used colors very well. basquiat he could care less

  • furthermore Gidget Gein was/wasnt as famous as this twit and did way better art than this guy. and did a series of paintings like basquiat to show that galliers would buy shit art cause it looked good to twits like you.

  • when it comes to art, people like what they like, also name does make a difference. Van Gogh could not sell a single painting in his lifetime.

Persoanlly, I don;t know what all of the fuss is about POllack, his wife was much more talented.

  • have you ever seen a pollack in person ?

  • yes I have, and he's overrated

  • or even the doc of him painting. the sheer creativity is a major force that has given to all the arts and humanity in general in hwat is actually a very direct way pollock is an extrodinarily generous painter

  • How the hell did he pronounce the name at the end!?

  • bass-kee-at

  • i wish some one would put the whole movie on

    the internet

  • everything about this movie..every part every single actor was done perfectly.. the drugs/art/jazz ahh love the writer i just love this amazing movie..

  • A great film about a life too short.

  • @ChanceEncounters I agree that this film about his life was too short. But, in the case of Basquiat, he only enjoyed fame for less than 10 years. So there wasn't much to portray - as far his life span as a successful artist.

  • @fnkdrmmr I loved the film, i thought his life was brought short too quickly. Would of been great to see how he would progressed as an artist, maybe like Yves Tanguy or Picasso his styles might of evolved or changed.
