I've noticed that the highest Sesame Street has counted was up to 20, at least I think it was, I think there was only one exception where they counted even higher, and it was the 40 Pigs song, they usually have 20 has the highest number to count to
@CrazyGamerDragon64: During the 80s and early 90s, several other cartoons about the number 40 appeared on Sesame Street: a man counting 40 stars; 40 lemmings jumping from a cliff in silly poses; a hare taking a flight of 40 steps to race a tortoise (who cheated by using the elevator). There was also a Muppet sketch with a boy in a school bus, singing a bluesy number about going to school 40 blocks away. Do any of those ring a bell for you?
1: Person, umbrella, and rain 2: Duck splashing in puddles 3: Kitty cat 4: Bunny 5: Birdie 6: Puppy dog 7: Pelican 8: Roller skater 9: Snapper 10: Sunbather and a tube 11: Singing twins 12: Puddle splashers 13: Cat and mouse 14: Bunny and a carrot 15: Two birds 16: A puppy and another dog with a bone 17: Pelican and a fish 18: Roller skater touching a nose 19: Snapper watching one 20: Duck and pond
If I had some animation skill, I wouldn't mind doing an updated version of this...on let's say an Amiga with AGA graphics or a Video Toaster attached. Or maybe how about a VBXE (Video Board XE) enhanced Atari 130XE at 320 x 240 resolution.
That style of animation looks very familiar. I believe it was done by a woman, whose name eludes me for the moment, who also had an animation studio based out of Rochester, New York.
You might be interested to know that all the animations on Sesame Street are made by independent artists from all over the country who propose their films to the production company. It is not all made by one director with one staff of artists, so there is a lot of variety in the films.
I can assure you the only drug induced was coffee during the making of this animation! However, Louis Carroll is an early hero and certainly an influence too.
HA! Well then 1 should have a pretty good time with 9 (provided he keeps that umbrella on).....throw the talented 6 in the mix, and you have yourself a surefire numborgy!
Thanks for the nice, cool trivia! Do you happen to know when this first aired? My guess is between the mid 80s and early 90s, but not later than 1993-5, I should say, because that was the last time I recall seeing the full version of this. Thanks!
I think it aired around 1983 or 1984 because i was working in nightclubs til 1982, then I did a bunch of music videos for Sony, and then this followed shortly after. I had a more violent and funny version of a countdown on my demo reel and that was what inspired this series for Sesame Street.
Oh, BTW, I'm curious as to when this first aired and who animated this. My guess is it would have aired in the mid to late 80s, but not later than the early to mid 90s.
When I was young it really irked me in this segment when they didn't go all the way up to 20 sometimes. They would stop at 14 or 16 I was like maybe this time they'll do it BTW what were 5,8,and 9 supposed to be?
I remember this pretty well. I saw it a lot during the early 90's. I mean all the other numbers. I rarely saw this one where it goes all the way up to 20.
