Spirits incarnate, living as humans in our midst; moving openly and freely, yet undetected by the masses, or even their hosts. Like the spasms of a decapitated body, the fact of the matter, thats precisely what it is; if you really think about it. Their illusions are many, which overtake the sleepwalking masses. Now know that they do take flesh and walk among men, to mold a new species. Die young and stay pretty. It's just a message for the stoke: SaintVeil
PTSD / DEPRESSION versus REVOLTING against material recklessness of consumerism! How about A COMBINATION of both? Most people are trapped in our sick economic treadmill: Some try to escape from the capitalistic dump mentality + its systematic disconnection from essential goods, by conserving collections passionately, as a kind of legacy or for some higher purpose. The French lady is not far from being an artist (eg Joseph Beuys) but it's the stuff that possesses them! Watch "STORY OF STUFF" too.
My philosophy I have tried to go by for the most part to stay as far away from the way I grew up, is that if I don't have an immediate need, it has to go! I have throw away something I ended up needing later, and said, Darn. But I got another, & I moved on and it didn't kill me. Also, I try to keep a balance if something new is coming in, something old has to go. It has been a good system fo the most part. I think it works well. I don't think these people have a plan. It is more than that tho
For some adults, hoarding is an excessive compensatory mechanism psychologically developed due to extreme lack of material possessions or the impoverish environment early in their childhood life. I've known lots.
I think all hoarders -- especially of books -- want secretly to be part of the "elite". Having things close by, and not having to go to the library, gives one a sense of POWER! Convenience IS power! Or it seems so. REAL power would come to this gentleman if he'd acquire a "posh" accent, (listen to tapes of "posh" people speaking), losing weight, and saving.....money. Saved money earns interest! Owning money is more powerful than owning things! (Where will he be in 5 or 10 years????)
I'm very interested in your statement!! I too am a minimalist and want to know more of "how" you think. I am the son of a SUPER MEGA PACKRAT, who has destroyed the lives of 5 people! I became a minimalist because of him.
My mom was a hoarder,my sis is a hoarder,my bro,and me...But not to the extent of these people. Not piles of trash like the lady,or the last guy,but lots of totes,I got better,i got rid of alot to goodwill and trash, and quit the yard sale buying,(that was my downfall).I need a dumpster, and not look at the value of things, but will I EVER use it?I sold alot in garage sales and some old items on Ebay,It is an illness.......
i feel truly bad for these people and i hope they get help or at least learn to function around their illness. though my sympathy is sort of limited. i have hard an extremely tough life with a hard, violent childhood but i am not screwed like that. i mean, god forbid these people ever experience any thing truly traumatic like war - christ, they would go catatonic. as a fireman and policeman i put myself in those situations every day. but maybe i thrive off danger as a result of my past?
This was really interesting, and made me remember that while possessions help give structure to your life and memories, you can't cling! It's all just stuff, meaningless really.
yeah I know what they are going through, Im the same exact way. My place almost looks quite the same. Its amazing, its like I cant throw out some sorts of things either because I have emotional attachment to it or perhaps I think that later on I'm going to regret losing it because then I might need it. I mean, I have copies of dvd movies that I have burnt, games, music, porn etc. LOL I've got clothes that dont fit me anymore and magazines that are pretty informative. Damn Im a sap.
Really? Well I sell them for 3 dollars a piece. Full DVD copies, hey if you want some lets talk. Oh and by the way, is that you shooting that gun in that video?
Do you have much space for walking around in your place? How many months/years has it been like it is? Do you think you can return to "normal" living? I'm trying to help my Dad fix his problem.
Honestly, its been a while sort of like 5 years or so. I know, its kinda ridiculous but I'm too lazy to do anything about it nordont even know where to begin. Well anyways I think that it is definitly a form of depression. For whatever is making people like us so depressed is what is being expressed in our conditions at home.
I think people are emotional and NOT logicical and we are often too lazy to clean up properly. Plus it feels good when we buy something, it's a type of "power"........they have it, we want it and we can buy it, now it's ours. Most people don't use what they have/buying is more fun than using or so it seems. Could ever be a Minimalist?
You could be right about that because I did some really sick shopping of shoes this year LOL and I'm not even a woman. But in fairness these foot wear that I bought weren't really expensive at all and I do use most of them for work and for leisure so go figure...
Well I do try and recycle what I've got instead of throwing things away. I had an old gateway that I gave to my sis that still works though she doesn't use it much (because I have to put in another type of browser). I gave it to her so she could hopefully use it for other things. I bought a brand new PC and figured she could use the one I had so she could get things done. I have some clothes that don't fit me but bin too lazy to go and sent them to the thrift store. But do use what I have.
I mean for the most part, I have a lot of burnt DVD movies that I don't watch anymore in which I wish I could do something about that. And then just mainly papers that need to be shredded and then recycled so yeah. I have to one day sit down and meditate on doing this crap. I wish there were like less fortunate movie goers that could use some of the movies that I have, at least that way they just wont go winding up in the trash can. Any suggestions I will take.
Craigslist is a great place to post free items, (even haircuts) so I hope you give away your movies there. What type of movies do you like? You'll feel like a million dollars everytime you rid yourself of a good size stack! Turn it into pleasure!
Its sad, they all have problems but specially the last one he seems to have a great feeling of abandonment and desperation. His eyes, the sign on the wall I hope he can overcome this and may someone help him.
Scary. This film has open my eyes and I´m gonna remember it every time I got the desire of keep something.... Is really sad how we, human kind collect and live in the middle of garbage. This people got some psychological help? This is pathological! Congrats, Gave me the urge to clean this mess, i don´t want to end like that!...
