  • Weel done friend. Great The Smiths, my band of 80.

I love this sound believe me!

  • well done. i love when anyone plays this song. which is not often.

  • well done mate as im a guitar player i know how hard it is trying to sing and play the guitar when theirs a lot too it.wee bit too fast but i think it slows down a bit when you are half into it.

  • tabs?

  • Kick ass!

  • Parece o Messi.rsrsrs

  • Accurate. FANTASTIC! Well done.

  • ur adorable..in a david gedge kinda way, awesome cover, i think i love u! x

  • Still love this vid!

  • hell :)

  • fuckin heel!!!!! it was really good!!!!!

  • ha thats wicked mate, really enjoyed that! voice is fine and the pacing and momentum bring out the best in the song...cool!

  • Fantastic! x

  • Are you sure you're not Johnny Marr? You actually look like him

  • This... is... amazing! I'd love to be able to play like you! And the fact that you're singing as well. You are extremely talented. Thank you for sharing this with us!

  • song is good but I dont like your voice XD

  • Beautiful, man! Marvelous artistry, and your singing is just fine. More more more!

  • This is really nice! A Smiths' classic. :) Great cover.

  • awesome, but i think you're playing a little faster than it really is.

  • It's in open D turning, with a capo at the second fret. Again, it was heavily overdubbed. It was a very exciting period for me - realising I could hijack 16 tracks all for myself."

"I wrote 'The Headmaster Ritual' on acoustic. It's in an open-D tuning with a capo at the 2nd fret. I fancied the idea of a strange Joni Mitchell tuning, and the actual progression is like what she would have done had she been an MC5 fan or a punk rocker.

    -J.M.

  • Amazingly good, great guitar and I even like the manchester vocals.

  • Sounds great. What are you using for a chorus pedal?

  • Hi. Im using a Marshall 100DFX amp onboard digital FX

  • radioheads version is worse. you caught the essence. respect.

  • fantastic cover 5*

  • wow that was awsome id say you hit those notes right on the spot. By any chance would you have to this, ive been trying to find accurate tabs for this tabletures song. It seems as though there are many ways of playing it I just want to get the most accurate tune for it. Legendary song nontheless.

  • yo dude, I can play this (approximately) in standard tuning, but I know Mr. Marr had an open E something tuning for this song. the question is, how do you tune the guitar?

  • Just play an E chord in standard tuning and tune it up to the fingers you are fretting(to play the E) you should then be able to play an E without fretting the fingerboard!!

    hope that helped!

  • Open E (E-B-E-G#-B-E) if that's too tight for your fingers or your geetar neck then Open D (D-A-D-F#-A-D) with a capo at the 2nd fret will do it.

  • juttkeys, I can't believe it's been 9 months since my last comment. I just wanna say this is still one of my favorite Smiths covers on youtube cuz it's the closest anyone can get to that cool 1985 vintage Marr sound. Definitely 5 stars.

  • thanks, is it vintage already?

  • check again the lyrics

    and slow down

  • I know its too fast just a bit too fast. But lyrics? i never 'learnt' this song it has always been a part of me. Believe me my copy of meat is murder must be worn out by now. I never intended to do a perfect version i just picked guitar up one saturday afternoon and thought 'i wonder if i could put something on youtube' and here it is warts an all. The vodka red bull is prob still in my system from the night before, i could do a more accurate version sure but this is me.

  • the nape of my *neck*

same old suit since 1962 at the first time

    and all the second vers...

it's "mid-week on the playing field Sir thwacks you on the knees, Knees you in the groin, Elbow in the face, Bruises bigger than dinner plate"

    :]

  • Excellent! Tough one to sing & play. more!

  • AWESOME...

    What settings do you use?

    Reverb, Chorus..etc?..

  • Fuckin' christ ! This is Johnny Marr with a bit of extra baggage. Seriously though, you are a great player. I've been playing for 25 + years and I don't even come close to talent like this. I'd love to see a version of "Accept yourself" or "Handsome Devil". Keep at it mate.

  • slow it down

  • go baldyman...mee too bruv.....jut is a top insperation . stick with the learning ...can get boring trying to nail a song but lets do it man.....c u on here in a year ..with me on it too

  • that is pure genious mate...and thanks for the tuning below....gonna have a crack at this one myself, hopefully be up in a year or so..lol...you got the jmarr sound off to a tee

  • shit hot mate! love it quicker! from a loyal Smiths fan! p.s. my teacher used to do the millitary two step down the nape of my neck!...the bastard! ;)

  • i agree jimg333 but i,ve seen you play it better! ha haaaah! come on bang it on you tube you modest bastard!

  • thanks, you are a great help in me gettin inspired enuf.when my fingers are hurtin , arms are aching...listen to your version ..keeps me goin ....gettin a lot better.....will give you a run for your money soon..have a top year...love it played fast.

  • yes, a little bit wrong about the lyrics, but i absolutely love your voice, seriously !! about the guitar i can't say anything, i'm completely ignorant when it's about that, because i can't play guitar, so...

    what a shame!! hehe

  • I'm DYING to be able to play this, and your vid is the most accurate I've seen. Any chance you can re-record this so we can see the left hand technique?

  • yeah let us see! great version.

  • now your fuckin jammin.

  • wow, nice!

very fast, awesome guitar job. just got wrong with the lyrics, hehe. but that's fine. congrats, man!

(sorry if i wrote anything wrong. i was never the best student of the english class, definitely) :-p

  • I definitely like that!

  • Good job. I like your style.

  • can someone tell me what the E tuning is. is it the standart tuning : E A D G B E???

    thnaks in adavance

  • No, from the 6th string (low E) it is E,B(+2),E(+2),G#(+1),B,E thus when strummed open you have your E major chord. Hope this helps...

  • Great Job man...now i know how to play it!

  • that was perfect man. i don't mean to sound like a n00b but could you hook me up with tabs, i've been dying to learn this.

  • Hi thanks, but I don't really know where there are any good tabs for this, Im sure there will be some somewhere. I did however use open 'E' tuning, as is 'meat is murder' also.

  • Wow-absolutely amazing!

Got the guitar chords and the feel down to a tee.Really helped me to understand the guitar playing. Keep it up!

  • Congrats - very nice guitar work, nice singing too.

  • Sounds good are you capoing on the 2nd fret in

open D Tuning? Do you have a version of the video showing more of the lower neck? I am trying to figure out the chords you are playing for the B section (I want to go home. I don't want to stay.)

    Thanks!

  • Also do you know William, it was really nothing? I am trying to figure that one out.

    Thanks!

  • Best Version I've seen yet.. Good Job!!

  • Ok, tell us how can you play this song at a faster time than original and SING AT THE SAME TIME!!! This is definitely better version on the guitar than the one from danielearwicker (which is much saying), the closest to the original from The Smiths.

  • you FUCKIN HANDLED IT MARVELOUSLY....BEST VERSION YET..THANK YOUUU! TRICKY TUNE...BEST PROGRESSION EVER THO

  • hey mate thats was class.

is it in alt tuning/ can i please have the tab?

  • Open E.

  • cool very cool

  • I'm impressed! Guitarwise and soundwise this is totally spot on. A perfect representation of Marr's playing. Keep it up! Btw, I also tend to speed up songs badly.

  • loved it.....

    started singin along lol

  • wow, singing moz _and_ playing marr at the same time. nice job man! dig the mark holmes haircut or is that a mini mullet ;-)

  • Great! I also did my rendtion to this great song. We play it almost alike. I think you played it very well (and better than I did). Anyways, take a look on my youtube page and tell me what you think.

    all the best

    eduardo

  • Fancy serenading in the restaurant???!!!

  • i can feel the feeling in the playing, that is the most important thing when covering a song such as this.

  • hey its not very often that YOUTUBE guitarists cover a song and sing it at the same time- it seemed a bit rushed at times but really nice.
