Purrfect video for a beginner like myself. I'm watching and doing at the same time. Just the way I like to learn. Hope the rest of the tutorials is in the same manner.
this is really helpful!!!,, i am currently enrolled in a graphic design class, and have no f****** clue what Im doing,, but these videos are helpful, and I will be downloading AI free trial yay =] thanks.
Well, I have to admit that at first it looks scary and very difficult to work with this kind of programs but you explained everything in very easy and simple way. Thank you! Hope I'll learn :)
PS You might want to explore the options provided by the (new to CS5) shape-builder tool. I think it's a bit more precise when adding, grouping and subtracting shapes. Thanks!
I find this video delightfully refreshing. Unlike pros who steamroll through their tutorials with the supposition that their viewers have already achieved (to some degree) a facility in Illustrator, JReam makes no pretense about his self-taught status. As a fellow member of that bunch, I've discovered and invented work methods that baffle and astound my graphic-degreed counterparts. Kudos, JR, for a job well-done!
Anyway I tried pulling out the pathfinder tool out from the effect tab but failed. I tried finding it elsewhere but failed too. Please advise! Thanks!

@BoeGraa you can save the photo to your computer then place it into illustrator via the file drop down menu. click "place..." then find the logo and once it's in illustrator and you select it at the top there should be a "live trace" button. play around with the image with the "presets" drop down menu until it looks the way you want and then hit "expand." it wont always turn out perfectly but unless you can recreate the logo that's your best bet.
next time you make a tutorial, write down what your going to say so you don't keep saying "eeeeeehh..." and speak faster becuase this could of been said and shown in much less than 9 minutes.
I'm super new to Illustrator and haven't worked in anything like it or photoshop ever before. I need help... i accidentally clicked on a hotkey or short command that removed those light green lines that pops up horizontally and vertically. The lines that say "intersect", "path", "anchor" etc depending on where you are with your cursor. I'm having alot of trouble to get these back since i mistakenly deactivated them. could you please tell me how to resolve this??? Please!!

Hi! how do you zoom in and out, if you´re working on a laptop and without a mouse. I have the new Macbook pro and as soon as I use ctrl + 1 my computer freezes in zoom. Should I skip it and just zoom by writing instead? like write in 150% or 200%, if you understand what I mean?

My first view of your vids, and I'm already a subscriber. I've always used Photoshop CS5 for everything, but that won't fly in the business once I graduate. @Blackbook5000, you could search around for portables as well. Unless you have 100+ GB, the official Adobe products take up a lot of space (plus torrents can take forever and you don't know if they're safe or infected). The portables are much smaller and have all the features available without having to play hacker with keygens and whatnot.
@kikz786 You can right click > Arrange > Move To Front/Back etc. Or learn use use the hotkeys CTRL + [ or CTRL + ] -- Look at the Arrange Hotkeys (NOTE: This only moves items above/below eachother on the current layer, if you are using different layers make sure you have the right one selected)

yo yo yo my friend.... Thank you so much for doing this tutorial .... The Way You Did It!
You've unlocked a lot of confusion I've had about illustrator. I've had illustrator for weeks now and watched other tutorials....and have been unable to do much at all.
But YOU explain everything! not jumping ahead, assuming we know about the Hot Keys! i had no idea! Thanksamucho! chris
