  • Purrfect video for a beginner like myself. I'm watching and doing at the same time. Just the way I like to learn. Hope the rest of the tutorials is in the same manner.

  • this is really helpful!!!,, i am currently enrolled in a graphic design class, and have no f****** clue what Im doing,, but these videos are helpful, and I will be downloading AI free trial yay =] thanks.

  • Well, I have to admit that at first it looks scary and very difficult to work with this kind of programs but you explained everything in very easy and simple way. Thank you! Hope I'll learn :)

  • Awesome class!!! Thanks!

  • How about you just draw a heart instead of wasting your time with the circles and squares and the pathfinder tool?

  • @johnnyatab He is fucking explaining the features not how to design an heart! Dumb shit head!

  • @Spiralminds and merry Christmas to you sir!

  • 3:16 CTRL + 0 / 9

  • PS You might want to explore the options provided by the (new to CS5) shape-builder tool. I think it's a bit more precise when adding, grouping and subtracting shapes. Thanks!

  • I find this video delightfully refreshing. Unlike pros who steamroll through their tutorials with the supposition that their viewers have already achieved (to some degree) a facility in Illustrator, JReam makes no pretense about his self-taught status. As a fellow member of that bunch, I've discovered and invented work methods that baffle and astound my graphic-degreed counterparts. Kudos, JR, for a job well-done!

  • your an idiot

  • Anyway I tried pulling out the pathfinder tool out from the effect tab but failed. I tried finding it elsewhere but failed too. Please advise! Thanks!

  • Learn before you try to teach anything anywhere ;p

  • Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

  • @RogerGarrett Im not a professional, i did these for fun

  • I LOVE VECTORS! So cool...

  • I'm just starting. like the shits installing right now. I'm going to follow through and watch all of these tutorials from you. at the end of the day when im done and done with the tutorials, ill send you what i ended up putting together. I'm excited man, thanks in advance for the tutorials!

  • as im watching this, im laughing at myself for doing things the hard way

  • my pathfinder isn't working... it doesn't take out my black box out of the heart.

  • @greatbambeaner After you click on the black square, hold alt and then press the red square!! Should work..

  • So Helpful!

  • @ 5:23 you showed what the direct select tool would do, but I tried it and it moved the whole object instead of stretching it.

    How do I fix that?

So Far I like your tutorial! very easy to follow.

  • God i hate ads

  • Still difficult !

  • mkay? :D

  • How do i make a logo (only text) that i took from internet make a vector logo?

  • @BoeGraa you can save the photo to your computer then place it into illustrator via the file drop down menu. click "place..." then find the logo and once it's in illustrator and you select it at the top there should be a "live trace" button. play around with the image with the "presets" drop down menu until it looks the way you want and then hit "expand." it wont always turn out perfectly but unless you can recreate the logo that's your best bet.

  • Thank you very much!

  • Man... You are a genius at this! a natural born Teacher! Thanks a bunch!

  • next time you make a tutorial, write down what your going to say so you don't keep saying "eeeeeehh..." and speak faster becuase this could of been said and shown in much less than 9 minutes.

  • Hi Jream!

I'm super new to Illustrator and haven't worked in anything like it or photoshop ever before. I need help... i accidentally clicked on a hotkey or short command that removed those light green lines that pops up horizontally and vertically. The lines that say "intersect", "path", "anchor" etc depending on where you are with your cursor. I'm having alot of trouble to get these back since i mistakenly deactivated them. could you please tell me how to resolve this??? Please!!

  • I used to use Adobe illustrator like you, but after watching your tutorial I felt like taking an arrow to the Knee... GG

  • Hi! how do you zoom in and out, if you´re working on a laptop and without a mouse. I have the new Macbook pro and as soon as I use ctrl + 1 my computer freezes in zoom. Should I skip it and just zoom by writing instead? like write in 150% or 200%, if you understand what I mean?

  • wow! thanks for this video, i learned a lot... and its my first time to use the Adobe Illustrator and all I can say I create a perfect heart, better than yours lol! anyway thank u so much! it helps me learned how to use Adobe Illustrator for my future job... =)

  • Everytime I try to unite my shapes, which by the way I copied your heart, it says," The filter produce no results. Please select two overlapping paths." I followed exactly everything you did and this keeps popping up. What does it mean.? I have to make five logos for my class, by Sunday.

  • @yvette4887 Make sure your shapes are on the same Layer, and they must be touching. Im not sure why youd get that error otherwise

  • Thanks so much for these vids. Just got my cs5.5 serial key and I've never touched Illustrator before... @JREAMdesign you are a life saver!

  • i'm a newbie in illustrator. and i'm very thankful to this video. thanks author! :)

  • @akosithur you are Welkies!!!!

  • @akosithur me too

  • hey i really appreciate the help, going to be watching more of your vids, i've always struggled with illustrator

  • @cable377777 No problem ! Youll be a pro in no time, its confusing at first :P

  • Yeah i dont understand why my Illustrator doesnt have that Essentials drop down bar

  • @Morphindel you are probably using a different version, go to the window > workspace

  • @JREAMdesign Yeah i just noticed i am on CS3 lol, i only have Basic, Panel and Type :\

  • thanx, this is really good for people like me who have done plenty of photoshop work and just starting to use illustrator !

  • My first view of your vids, and I'm already a subscriber. I've always used Photoshop CS5 for everything, but that won't fly in the business once I graduate. @Blackbook5000, you could search around for portables as well. Unless you have 100+ GB, the official Adobe products take up a lot of space (plus torrents can take forever and you don't know if they're safe or infected). The portables are much smaller and have all the features available without having to play hacker with keygens and whatnot.

  • please explain what I missed, I couldn't make a circle, it's an oval. thanks.

  • Does anyone know where i can download Adobe illustrator for free?

  • @Blackbook5000 Adobe allows a 30 day trial

  • @Blackbook5000 yeah i know just go at kick ass torrents!and search

  • how do you move one figure on the top of the other?

  • @kikz786 You can right click > Arrange > Move To Front/Back etc. Or learn use use the hotkeys CTRL + [ or CTRL + ] -- Look at the Arrange Hotkeys (NOTE: This only moves items above/below eachother on the current layer, if you are using different layers make sure you have the right one selected)

  • @JREAMdesign Thanx, in reward I have suscribed. =)

  • @kikz786 Haha thanks dude, you will outgrow these illustrator tutorials pretty quick, most of my other ones are about programming, have fun!

  • Thank you for this tutorial. I just recently started using Illustrator, Ive been using Photoshop for all the stuff i should be using Illustrator for (Posters, Tickets, etc..). Thanks again.

  • @xXxSINNERxXx619 Cool man! Illustrator is a lot better for what you are trying to do, you wont look back once you get comfortable!

  • This was a good video but I couldn't understand what you did to get rid of the black box.

  • @Mslizzybluts I used the Path Finder, I selected both boxes, and picked Subtract in Pathfinder (Window > Pathfinder)

  • I've got Adobe Illustrator CS (11.0.0) and is wondering if I can install the trial version of CS5 and still have CS installed? So I can go back to CS after the trial has ended without having to reinstall it again.

  • @lillalosan Im not sure. I used version 11 for a long time and liked it. You dont REALLY need the newest and the best to get going. They just add Convenient features to do things faster/easier sometimes, I could still use CS and be happy.

  • @lillalosan Actually Yeah I think you can because it installs to program files/adobe/illustratorCS with the version number I remember.

  • @JREAMdesign I only see green in the video...

  • please help me... thanks...

  • @anubisxtrm with what?

  • @JREAMdesign I only see green in the video... In all your Ai tuts vids...

  • Comment removed

  • why I dont see the tut in the video? I only see green...

  • rgb is for monitor display and cmyk is for printing? when i select rbg there is a warning sign..why is that?

  • @Dino3 that is to do with web-safe colors which you can ignore

  • I was about to give up until I watched this video. I couldn't figure out how to make a circle to save my life. Its totally diffrent from Photoshop, lol.

  • @DonzComputers yeah illustrator has a hard learning curve

  • i have a question that has nothing to do with this vid but it does have to do with Illustrator. when you overlap to objects, how do you change the color of the overlapped part to another color?

  • @leonaestep2000 Youd have to select BOTH object with the black arrow, then open the PATH FINDER, and I think its called DIVIDE (Hover over the icons to see) Then you can color each square

  • @JREAMdesign thanks for your help :)

  • Awesome beginner tutorial. Best one I've found.
